What happens to those LiPo batteries when the temperature drops below 0°C? LiPo batteries can leak or become permanently damaged if charged/discharged below freezing.
Not only that but the electricity that will be charging this thing isn't exactly coming from a "green" source, 86% of the electricity will be from burning petroleum, natural gas and coal.
I'm all for environment preservation and responsibility, but does anyone realize that the sheering off of glacier protrusions as depicted in the commercial occurs not because of melting, but rather because the protrusions have grown too large and sheer off due to weight (in other words, it got too cold)?
Electricity doesn't have to come from coal. What comes to my house is 100% hydro and wind power. Are we going to kill ourselves because we're too dense to use non-lethal forms of power?
@lillyahoo True, but for most Americans who either live in cities that aren't next to Hoover Dam, or live in the surrounding suburbs, it's just not feasible. It's about money, just like everything else. Right now there are tons of wind farms across the USA that aren't hooked up to much of anything. They've lost their appeal after watching Portugal, and even if people wanted to hook them up, there is no money to. They want to tax city dwellers finance it, then sell power at even higher rates.
@matrixfs what do your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th question have to do with electric cars? The answer to those questions is the same whether the car is gas or electric so quit trying to find bogus ways to put down electric cars. Yes the electricity comes from coal plants, but they make energy with less pollution than millions of cars.
@Silencer8888 You have to look at the big picture to understand the questions, but they are all related and valid. I'm fine with electric cars, especially manly ones like Tesla. What I'm not fine with is claiming they don't pollute, or are zero emissions, and then using government programs to push them on people. Tax breaks, credits, rebates, cash for clunkers etc etc are only promoting more waste. Sell them an electric car when they need a new car, don't bribe them now with deficit cash
So where does the electricity come from? Oh yeah, burning coal. Where did his old car go? How much pollution did the factory put out to make the new car? What fuel was used to haul this to the dealership? And where do the batteries get dumped once they've been cycled past their effective lifetimes? sigh......before committing to a good cause, I wish people would do some research first and at least understand what they're trying to sell to others as being 'the solution'
@empticups Nice work, you have accomplished your goal already. When you get done playing the ignorance game, I'd love to hear why I'm an idiot. Hopefully it's not just because I don't agree with you.
@matrixfs "So where does the electricity come from? Oh yeah, burning coal."
That is an ignorant and uninformed statement. Not because I say it's wrong, but because it's simply wrong. Sure, the points you made about the carbon footprint caused by the process of manufacturing the new car hold some weight but with your opening statement being way off base it's kind of hard to take you seriously
The production is great, the message is bogus. WAKE UP PEOPLE - THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING PROBLEM. Plus, where do you think the electric cars get their power? From electric plants, many that are coal or oil fired, and produce far more emmissions than modern gasoline automobiles. Al Gore is laughing at you every night when he counts the money he made over his "sky is falling" BS. Oh no, wait, it's "the earth has a fever." HA HA HA. Pathetic
@Finesse613 bogus or not i dont see why changing how we do things could ever be bad.. a change in fuel from gas to electric could trigger more green ways of producing electricity e.i. harvesting wind power/ solar energy/ anything else. If its going to start, its gotta start somewhere, why not go from the bottom up?
who cares if global warming isnt real? maybe its natural, maybe its bullshit, but why not help out the planet a bit any way? couldnt hurt.
Love It! Germany and the UK have declared 2010 as "Peak Oil" so $8+ gas is coming fast! From the tone of the anti-EV crowd, they would rather walk. That's cool... all the hungry and pissed off polar bears will need something to eat. ;)
This made me sign in!!! Seriously, this is the BEST commercial ever made! Makes you want to buy the car! The commercial itself is soooo sweet and moving... +the polar bear is so cute! way to go hybrid!
i would so get a leaf just so i could get a hug from a polar bear

one issue. Batteries are more toxic in terms of disposal than oil. I'm all for electric, just a different power source if someone could find it.
