We just sang this in my chamber choir's spring concert and I'm so in love with it. It is one of those pieces that just touches your soul. The line that gave me goosebumps as we were singing it, and as I listened to it again here, was "til all the seas gang dry" That is so powerful.
I remember singing this my senior year of high school in the senior's choir. I loved singing this song as the tenor part was so beautiful and the lyrics were just so powerful. thanks for posting such a great version of this song!!!
My high school chours is singing this song and i'm absolutly in luv with it!! we hav a small-ish choir so its not as rich but we still do a pretty good job. this is just a beautiful song!
love this song, performin it soon with my quintet. the thing that pisses me off about this performance is that it's a bit flat. Just listen to the tenors at 1.01.
Stunning. I love this song so much, and this was a wonderful performance. My high school choir tried this song, and we didn't do so well. Now I know what its supposed to sound like =)
I remember singing this for the OAKE national choir back in '01...i think. I remember this was our favorite by far! Thanks for sharing and of course, beautiful!
We sang this yesterday at the St. Clair Couty Music Festival. It was so beautiful. And what makes it even better is that it has an even more beautiful story behind it.
Those beautiful voices, and instruments, and faces. Big guy with tears running. Thanks to Robert Burns for saving old Scottish songs. Eva Cassidy's version also captures these few simple yet elegant vows of luve. I can only wonder long ago of the person who loved that much.
I don't know how many people are singing this, but it brings chills down my spine with this many people singing. Great job! The blend is good and you can hear all the parts. I sang this in high school and this was one of my favorite songs.
I miss OMEA so much. I celebrated my birthday there every year. After this concert a bunch of people started singing happy birthday to me as the curtain went down.... Best 16th, 17th and 18th birthdays anyone could ever ask for. :)
i love these guys who ever they are amazing blend and OMG the cononants ended at the same time. If only they where my old choir i would still be in it!!!
ah this song brings back memories. some very very frustrating but good memories. a lot of disagreement between our choir and director on the tempo haha. these guys are so good. this is what our director meant by feeling the emotion. We got a one at contest with this. we would never have if we didn't connect to the emotions. :) aww now i wanna cry T.T
Wow... we sang this in my high school chorale about 6 years ago... I LOVE this song. The arrangement is absolutely beautiful. They performed this just a hair faster than we did, but it still sounds gorgeous!
Do you even know what you're talking about?? Even if the original was good, that was still an amazing arrangement and a well executed performance. What's wrong with you?
This song is so beautiful and so amazing to sing. My choir is singing it right now and we're taking it to District Choral Festival. And if you all were wondering it "the seas gang dry" but it's pronounced gong. I absolutely am so in love with this song. <3
thats actually the way robert burns meant for it to be written! he was irish! we mett rene clausen (person who wrote the music) and he told us that gong is the way its supposded to be sang! =)
the only version of this thats any good is by the cork choir the madrigal 75 which proves that big is not better try and find it and check it out amazing performance compared to this very average version
my choir's learning this song! it's a lot of fun to sing, but our tenors tend to whimp out :( oh well. I love hearing the harmonization because when I sing, all I hear is the first sop section lol. this is such a beautiful song!
my chior did this song this year for States and Heritage festivals. we killed, this song has such emotion for us. Our chior director actually sang this song as an octet to his wife at their wedding. But i was a little disappointed when the guys and the girls go back and forth i thought that they could've used a little more 1st alto. . .probably because IM one. . .
When we sang this at our state festival we made the tempo go a bit faster and the mens part was much lighter and higher. He also made some of the parts differently when it came to bringing out the constants and when we shoud cresendo and decresendo. I Like this version just a little to slow for my liking. Good Job...
We sang this song in ALLSTATE choir directed by THE Rene Clausen!! HE conducted this song a little differently. Don't recall it being that fast! The story he told behind it was touching..
My chorale just sang this song at state contest. we really enjoyed it. The tempos seems just a tad fast in a few places and i would like to hear a little more shape to the phrases, more emotion.
we are currently preforming this song, menomonie WI high school under the direction of Audric Buhr. We were told that the poet form scotland who wrote this song origonaly wrote it as a proposal, he left it on the counter for his lover to see, after she red it she wrote something then walked outside. When the author went to read it a simple "No" was written. sad but kinda funny
My choir at school is going to sing this same arrangement sometime this year. I think there was much room for more expression and dynamics. They sang it pretty straight, cut, and dry. They have a nice tone, but they just need more expression and dynamics. I guess it's just because I'm used to my choir putting both of those into this song and we are about 10 times smaller. I'm not trying to brag, or anything, I'm just trying to say that it is possible to perform this song with actual feeling.
every time i hear this song i get chills. i love it. and i actually love the fact that you guys said "g-ah-ng dry". It makes it feel more mature and authentic.
this is one of my high school choir's favorite songs. have y'all noticed that all the all-state choirs do the same songs withing a few years of each other? i'm seriously hoping alabama's will do my soul's been anchored in the lord next year, there's like 5 other all-state choirs who have videos of it on here.
I love the tenor part on this song too. Probably has something to do with the fact that I'm a tenor and this was a song we sang at the Arkansas All-state concert.
beautiful work on this, especially with the added accompanyment from the violin and cello, it seems like this was your closer, what a beautiful way to end your concert
The Alto part is the best <3
