  • I need to know what version of "...Red, Red Rose" this is. Who composed this version?

  • @Coeleomic08 Rene Clausen

  • Quite possibly one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Oh how I miss choir!

  • We just sang this in my chamber choir's spring concert and I'm so in love with it. It is one of those pieces that just touches your soul. The line that gave me goosebumps as we were singing it, and as I listened to it again here, was "til all the seas gang dry" That is so powerful.

  • I got shivers! I just listened to lots of other recordings and this one is SO SUPERB! MY speakers vibrated

  • love this song, performin it soon with my quintet. the thing that pisses me off about this performance is that it's a bit flat. Just listen to the tenors at 1.01.

  • I love this song <3 we're singing it in our choir.

  • Stunning. I love this song so much, and this was a wonderful performance. My high school choir tried this song, and we didn't do so well. Now I know what its supposed to sound like =)

  • Goosebumps! [=

  • oof!

  • Brings back great memories!

  • Those beautiful voices, and instruments, and faces. Big guy with tears running. Thanks to Robert Burns for saving old Scottish songs. Eva Cassidy's version also captures these few simple yet elegant vows of luve. I can only wonder long ago of the person who loved that much.

  • @Subminiman damnit ;_; you got me crying too D:

  • I don't know how many people are singing this, but it brings chills down my spine with this many people singing. Great job! The blend is good and you can hear all the parts. I sang this in high school and this was one of my favorite songs.

  • I miss OMEA so much. I celebrated my birthday there every year. After this concert a bunch of people started singing happy birthday to me as the curtain went down.... Best 16th, 17th and 18th birthdays anyone could ever ask for. :)

  • wow....very pretty!! love it!

  • Wow this is beautiful.

The OMEA all-state is under-rated I think, Great performance

  • My chior sung this at a concert we were performing in...it's one of my faviorite peices...

  • i love these guys who ever they are amazing blend and OMG the cononants ended at the same time. If only they where my old choir i would still be in it!!!

  • ah this song brings back memories. some very very frustrating but good memories. a lot of disagreement between our choir and director on the tempo haha. these guys are so good. this is what our director meant by feeling the emotion. We got a one at contest with this. we would never have if we didn't connect to the emotions. :) aww now i wanna cry T.T

  • Wow... we sang this in my high school chorale about 6 years ago... I LOVE this song. The arrangement is absolutely beautiful. They performed this just a hair faster than we did, but it still sounds gorgeous!

  • Dear wifeoffred,

Do you even know what you're talking about?? Even if the original was good, that was still an amazing arrangement and a well executed performance. What's wrong with you?

  • Why does Mr Claussen feel the need to take an old Scottish ballad and totally bastardize it into something else

There was nothing wrong with the original

  • well...

why not? Its music! = ]

  • My choir is singing it now and i think we're taking it to all district...im not sure lol! anyways, this song is cute!

  • We sang it as the Conductor (Rene Claussen, the man who wrote it) instructed us to. It was Gang

  • Really, Rene Clausen directed you guys? That's awesome!

  • i got to sing this song with my middle school choir. SO BEAUTIFUL

  • This song is so beautiful and so amazing to sing. My choir is singing it right now and we're taking it to District Choral Festival. And if you all were wondering it "the seas gang dry" but it's pronounced gong. I absolutely am so in love with this song. <3

  • did they say 'til the seas GONE dry'?

my directors a stickler for following the music. ugh. we say gang. not gone.

  • Yes, they did. I'm singing it for Grad. in May! They did say "gone".

    Poem by Robert Burns

    Music by David C. Dickau

This song sounds VERY different to the same song that we're singing.

    (Meaning notes)

  • thats actually the way robert burns meant for it to be written! he was irish! we mett rene clausen (person who wrote the music) and he told us that gong is the way its supposded to be sang! =)

  • Robert Burns was Irish ?

    Ha ha ha.He was Scottish

    I

  • they said gang by sayin gaung dry. it sounds better than gang

  • ur right but i think its gan

  • my middle school choir sang this song and we sounded exactly like them but nat as many peeps!

  • im singing this song in CMEA.... i really like it!!!!

  • what choir is this?

    this choir is huge!!!

    festival choir maybe? :)

  • SOOO beautiful....im singing this with my choir.....ill post it when we sing it in the spring

  • we sang this in my choir,

but it was no where near as beautiful as this.

  • That is such a large choir!

I sang this same song. Same words,

    but a different tune.. haha.

    Simply beautiful (:

  • I'm sure Robert Burns was smiling down on this choir while they sang !!

  • That is amazing!!! The men are awesome. We did this at Big 8. It was so awesome. Where do you get this version?????

  • wow i just hope the district honor choir i'm in sounds this good

  • GRREAT JOB!!

  • do you know what group this is?

  • singing this in choir.. i absolutely love the lyrics!!

  • cool. im singing this song for my school! (and im in middleschool. and this is like a highschool song. koooool :D)

  • My love like a red red rose

an all time master piece..this is one of my favorite choir songs and the other is hark I jear

  • we sang this at my graduation, i cry every time i hear it. it's such a beautiful piece.

  • thats a HUGE choir.

  • Tenors are flat

  • we did this for LLMEA Chamber Choir, it was my favorite.

  • my choir is learning this song i absolutely love this song!!!

  • my choir's learning this song! it's a lot of fun to sing, but our tenors tend to whimp out :( oh well. I love hearing the harmonization because when I sing, all I hear is the first sop section lol. this is such a beautiful song!

  • my chior did this song this year for States and Heritage festivals. we killed, this song has such emotion for us. Our chior director actually sang this song as an octet to his wife at their wedding. But i was a little disappointed when the guys and the girls go back and forth i thought that they could've used a little more 1st alto. . .probably because IM one. . .

  • i agree. i am 2.

  • When we sang this at our state festival we made the tempo go a bit faster and the mens part was much lighter and higher. He also made some of the parts differently when it came to bringing out the constants and when we shoud cresendo and decresendo. I Like this version just a little to slow for my liking. Good Job...

  • We sang this song in our choir last fall and in our all-state choir too last year! This is me and my friends favorite choir piece. Love it!

  • We're singing this in jazz choir.

  • We sang this song in ALLSTATE choir directed by THE Rene Clausen!! HE conducted this song a little differently. Don't recall it being that fast! The story he told behind it was touching..

  • This conductor IS Rene Clausen.

  • this is cool! my director wrote his own version to this song. not to brag but my choir has more emotion and phrasing to it. good job though!

  • wow that great,we gone to sing that song in our next concert in may!!!

  • My chorale just sang this song at state contest. we really enjoyed it. The tempos seems just a tad fast in a few places and i would like to hear a little more shape to the phrases, more emotion.

  • I think it's the tempo the composer wanted it I guess...Because that is Rene Clausen Directing...(The Composer)

  • The tempo is a little brisk and could use a little more drastic phrase shaping. I sang this with the NC Honors Chorus.

  • Check out the 2008 All-OMEA Chorus videos. What an awesome choir!!

  • i sang this song!!!!but it was different.....

  • LOVED THIS SONG TOO!!!:D

  • we're singing this song in my choir right now. its such a beautiful song! i can't wait to hear it with all of the accompaniments!

  • It is a beautiful song...Love it alot...lol

  • @Slink12345 I was singing it in honorchoir too. It was an amazing song, look forward to get perfect!

  • we sang this last year, its a great work of art.! maybe a bit too fast.

  • I don't think this recording is too fast. Remember, their director, Rene Clausen, arranged this piece!

  • We sang this song.

    Different arrangement tho.

    Its posted.

  • Oklahoma All State is the 'ish especially cuz i sang in it last year and will sing it this year!!! Im so excited!!

  • i'm playing the cello part in my choir at csub. It's a really pretty song, it almost makes me want to cry.

  • yeah im doing the violin solo for my high school... its such a great song

  • slow down and there are so many of you...stagger and carry some phrases, dont breathe after each one

  • thats how the song is written...it uses the poems text to seperate into different phrases

  • wow I love this song its so pretty

  • we are currently preforming this song, menomonie WI high school under the direction of Audric Buhr. We were told that the poet form scotland who wrote this song origonaly wrote it as a proposal, he left it on the counter for his lover to see, after she red it she wrote something then walked outside. When the author went to read it a simple "No" was written. sad but kinda funny

  • My choir at school is going to sing this same arrangement sometime this year. I think there was much room for more expression and dynamics. They sang it pretty straight, cut, and dry. They have a nice tone, but they just need more expression and dynamics. I guess it's just because I'm used to my choir putting both of those into this song and we are about 10 times smaller. I'm not trying to brag, or anything, I'm just trying to say that it is possible to perform this song with actual feeling.

  • every time i hear this song i get chills. i love it. and i actually love the fact that you guys said "g-ah-ng dry". It makes it feel more mature and authentic.

  • Its almost too fast. its still wonderful though

  • i love this song! i sang this with my high schoool choir..it's so pretty! nice job!

  • This is really harmonious. I was singing bass part of this song.

  • this is one of my high school choir's favorite songs. have y'all noticed that all the all-state choirs do the same songs withing a few years of each other? i'm seriously hoping alabama's will do my soul's been anchored in the lord next year, there's like 5 other all-state choirs who have videos of it on here.

  • the part where everybody sings and just separates into parts is beautiful.

  • i love this song is one of my favotires

  • I love the tenor part on this song too. Probably has something to do with the fact that I'm a tenor and this was a song we sang at the Arkansas All-state concert.

  • I love singing the tenor part in this song...gets the ladies everytime! haha

  • haha i fell in love with the tenors in this song when we sang lol

  • it's definately an awesome recording...but it's gang, not gahng...

  • thats what he told us to say we were saying gang

  • beautiful work on this, especially with the added accompanyment from the violin and cello, it seems like this was your closer, what a beautiful way to end your concert

  • i luv this song

  • *ditto*

  • It all about dem Basses cuz we were just crunk wit it soooo.=)
