video and responses here are equally hilarious. I've done two years of Americorps service, first in NC with Habitat4Humanity, and then in Texas with the Environmental Corps. During my two years, i built houses, improved public land, and met ppl. thats it-fun stuff. Those military exercises? they made us do those in the morning so we are warmed up-like stretching before exercise. they are a joke. In general the members are liberal, but there is a mix, no doubt. Everyone can help, and does.

Have you talked to anyone that has been a part of City Year or Americorps? None of them will tell you they were being trained for a "civilian army." They have helpd communitites in great need, New Orleans for example. Those comments about potential terrorists..is exactly that POTENTIAL. It doesnt mean they ARE. the City Year commerical is taken literally. it shouldn't be. its a way of showing the impact u can make on ppl who need help with education, housing, or the environment- not politically.

I have worked with CityYear and the youths have idealistic views. They are very ambitious but it helps that they get a stipend for their time and can also receive scholarships for extended college work. The liberal influence is very subtle but they definitely become flaming libs during their work and indoctrination.
