Hi... Thank you for the video... I am having trouble with the beginning row.... Is it 52 or 56 chain?? You say 52... but the video says to chain 56 NOT 52.... when i chain 56.. i'm left with several chains at the end... thank you for your help with this...
@mrsnap1652 It has been 3 years since i made this video so i am a buit rusty on the directions, if it works with the 52 chains then use that ..sorry i cant remember :(
@fullofpotpie depends on if you want to do it all in one colour or not. If you have lots of scaps of different colours you could just change colours every time you run out of one. If you want it all one colour I suggest you buy a few skeins (possible 2-3) of the same dye lot to make an adult size one.
This is a really great tutorial! I did have a question though...I'm looking to crochet more of a "cape" in so far as instead of one completely solid poncho to pull over my head, the two sides would overlap and button together. Do you suppose that I could get this effect if i did NOT slip stitch the beginning chain into a loop?
@KaylaKay810 Yes i believe that you might be able to ...Might have to play around with the ends to make it go straigth , Good luck let me know how it goes
hi i can now do this so im looking to try and move on and do a babies cape if it is simple i do these for premature babies who dont make it but their mums still would like something nice to dress them in i do a matching hat also learned from you so a big thankyou
@NicoleLolytte90 Yes, I use 8ply yarn in the video i would use the hook size you would normally use with 8 ply. I use a 4mm hook. When i used 8ply and a 4mm hook it came out doll size. So you may want to use a biger hook or follow the pattern link to a larger size. Happy Crochet !
I hope your wrist has gotten better .. I hope your feeling well also.. We enjoy your videos very much.. You have helped many of us learn to love crocheting.. Thanks again..
I made the baby poncho ,it was very easy to follow your instructions. I tried it on my granddaughters and they fit perfectly but I would like to make them for winter and at that time this pattern will not fit them. One of them will be 1 year ol and the other 9 months old. Could you tell me how to increase the size of this pattern. Any information will be appreciated. crod5151@gmail.com
Hey would you know how to make a shawl for a 54 year old woman?I wondered if i could do it like the poncho just not join it on one end. What do you think?
I think you could use this pattern for a shawl ...Depending on your skill level :)I have a tutorial on how to make a poncho bigger...that would help you on ow many chains you would need in the starting chain ..then instead of joining the chain you could just working back and forth instead of round and round ?? I have never tried it..But when you start the chain ..dont but in that first corner...just a regular 3dc group same in the last stitch ..Let me know how you go !!! Good Luck.
hey, bobwilson, you did a very good job with this poncho tutorial!! I loved it and it helped me greatly ( I've made two ponchos already and I'm not gonna stop here...hehehhe) because I have learned 2 things (this particular crochet stitch and how to make a poncho) in just 1 tutorial.
It is absolutky my pleasure ! I am so glad that you have gained/learned some more crochet goodness! If you have a face book account join crochet minded people on Mikeyssmail ..you can even share a photo of your creation with us

how many should i have on each side for a larger one?
loriannn77 2 years ago
Depends on how much larger you want the poncho ? you could try using a bigger hook and thicker yarn
but this would probably only make it a few sizes larger
In the pattern it has how many to chain for Preemie/Small newborn (Newborn to 3 months) (3-6 months)
In the pattern it looks like each size is increased by 8 chains. Which would make an extra set of (3Double crochets) on each side
Let me know if you need any more help and i will try my best !
thanks for your comment :)
