  • great video...and to all non believers gi is better than no gi gi training makes no gi game and technique better

  • You've never seen a clock choke in competition? You dont train much eh! Same choke, grip variation that is more commonly seen from side mount.

  • this isnt an MMA technique. For the guys out there thinking this transfer to that sport, you may want to notice, that in MMA, no one really wears a Gi in the actual match. BJJ is NOT MMA. Its a sport. MMA is also a sport, howvever they are different. Some of these comments are like if I wrote on a MMA video, and said, " Yea, that leg kick is cool, but it would never work in Pan Ams, so whats the f ing point." Kinda silly, uh?

  • do you really need to loop the end of the collar? Just grab inside the collar beside the neck.

  • taozen, you're right, you can grab the inside of the collar/lapel, but when you slide towards the front of your opponent (bringing your leg forward and moving your body over his shoulder), you'll lose SOME of the grip and the choke is not as tight. In this video he's demonstrating a way to do a choke that is tight and has minimal interference from your opponents defenses from their arms.

  • This is the kind of cheesey technique that makes BJJ seem less practical than no-gi grappling. For pure sport, this sort of thing is cool. But how could this be used in MMA or a fight? I love BJJ, but I'm slowly coming to see the GI as a stupid distraction that slows things down and makes you rely on impractical techniques.

  • Not at all... You should think of the gi as a tool more than anything. You train with the gi because you learn more jiu jitsu that way, then when you train no gi, you make a better transition with your jiu jitsu. Think of it as a runner who wears training weights. Of course, if you think it's so impractical just train jiu jitsu without the gi then get into MMA and see what happens when you fight a jiu jitsu guy whos been training with one for years.

  • It's possible to use some Gi techniques in a fight (if a person is wearing a jacket, open collared shirt - or gi lol) but you're right, some translate poorly into MMA. Likewise, alot of MMA techniques translate poorly into competition Jiu Jitsu, because you'll work yourself into an easy trap. The only benefit I can say, is the position itself in this video is a good MMA position, especially if you're a good wrestler, and Gi- jiu jitsu helps you work on intricacies that you wouldnt otherwise.

  • @fallesafe But that's what it is, a sport and nothing more. What is your point? Jiu-jitsu is one thing and MMA another completely different thing. If you like MMA then good for you but don't mix up the things. There's no point in saying that the GI is a distraction as it's part of jiu-jitsu and there's no jiu-jitsu without it. If you don't like the GI then you don't like jiu-jitsu, let alone love it (pls, note that submission IS NOT jiu-jitsu).

  • How is this unnecessary? IF your opponent is good and doesn't allow you to get the hooks in, this should be a go to move, its a good move because theres no risk of losing your position if the choke doesn't work, in my opinion its a good option.

  • Great comment.

  • this is a badass technique...but it is kind of uneccessary. Very creative though.

  • whats the fu.cking point????
