No predictions are necessary, a video recorder on Hard disk normally used for video sorvailiance and a telecamera, you can record for over a year with a 1TB hard disk, and you can set a ring buffer, so that old data can be deleted when its full.
You can get everything at about 500 dollars.
They come with 4 to 16 video inputs, and you can set to record only if there are variations in the image if you like.
some can connect to LAN and accessed via internet in real time.

I used to live in Kagoshima City, this is pretty amazing, if you've been there you know that water separates the volcano from the city. Its a small eruption but a big one like in Iceland would devastate that entire city...
