  • In 2006 (?) venus transited the sun. I had a pair of binoculars I used to make a projection of it on the ground. It was a little like this. :)

  • Love this movie

  • makes you feel so fortunate to be able to witness such a thing

  • Thats not Mercury, its the spacestation of the Illusive Men from Mass Effect 2 !!

  • We will get to see a treat like this coming up, with Venus transit of the Sun...

  • -_- how did i get here...

  • 360p is far from HD, my friend...

  • @Xdizzle2000 So make it 720p...

  • @Xdizzle2000 It's in 720p, my friend.

  • Id be one of them, given half the chance, A one way ticket to the sun in the name of mankind

what greater purpose would there be in life :))

  • The image may not be the actual distance that they would be viewing if they looked out the "window". There appears to be some digitizing when switched from the green to yellow in the "window" This may be a magnification of the actual transit thus making things appear much bigger.

  • A little bit of dramatic license here. Mercury is about 30 million miles out from the sun, about 1/3 as far out as the Earth is, which means that the sun from Mercury's side would appear to be about 3-4x larger than it is from Earth (not accounting for atmospheric refracting). The sun occupies about 1.5 degrees of arc in the sky, so from Mercury it would be 5-6 degrees -- much larger, sure, but nowhere close to the 180 degree dominating monstrosity that the movie sun is. But it is pretty.

  • @Ishkur23 Nice accurate breakdown. I'm still glad they took artistic license. The scene is breathtaking.

  • wow, i really can imagine how i sit there and watch mercury and the sun, just beautiful

  • Beautiful Scene. You can tell by Harvey's reaction that he knew that once passed Mercury they are in comms blackout. He never should have been chosen to be on that mission as he resisted the whole way and was selfish to his own needs vs the needs of humanity.

  • This is very accurate as well. That is exactly how we would see Mercury, with the proper telescope that is.

  • TT_TT such.....beauty

  • Art my friends, this is fucking art

  • Wicked scene. No way mercury would be that big in comparison to the sun, or that close, or go that fast, but sometimes its fun to just enjoy movies eh, haha

  • @jmbtake6 Depends on how close you are to Mercury.

  • @jmbtake6 It only seems that way because of the telephoto lenses they are using. Plus the Icarus has really good heat shielding which allows it to go in the sun :P But I agree awesome scene, one of my favorites.

  • When I first watched the movie, It never occurred to me that the sun was cgi. It looked SO REAL. I love this movie!

  • i simply love the soundtrack

  • Any Doubts about Solar Energy?

  • ...and then everything goes to hell.

  • Amazing ... cool video

  • I got this on blu ray but wouldtnt say this was best part! i think the scene where hes talkin to this wife when in that green room thing and other 2 near end when he is in suit then the final when nuke goes off amazing film

  • Beautiful underrated Film and Soundtrack. Interesting thing about this scene is that everyone is taking in the beauty of Mercury's Transit yet only Harvey is the one upset and not looking. Shows in his character throughout the movie.

  • Watch this scene with this music in the background: /watch?v=_QahzbgUVwk

  • fucking hell damn me for saying this but that scene was just beautifull

  • i love danny boyles´s films

  • no doubt it realy is a good movie ! I want to ask you that who played the guitar music in background whe all the crew members gather to watch mercury ????? I wish I could know about the guy who played that beautiful music.....can anyone help ?????

  • @invisibleviper321 John murphy- mercury

  • @Platinumchain whos the guy who disliked the video ?thats not fair !

  • @invisibleviper321 Pinbacker.

  • @Platinumchain Actually that part was done by Underworld. They created a soundtrack for the whole movie and then John Murphy took parts of that and mixed it in with his classical score.

  • @MrLotus2035

That isn't true. They didn't create the soundtrack for the "whole movie" He collaborated with them and made original pieces. Sunshine in aldiago was done entirely by him as welll.

  • @TheHidingLegends I'm going by what Danny Boyle himself said on the Blu-Ray commentary. Maybe he got it wrong.

  • "WAIT THATS THE SUN?!?!?! THAT DON'T LOOK NICE AT ALL!"

  • This is my favorite movie scene of all times.

So much is happening in such a short and beautiful scene. The music, the atmosphere, the characters... Just EVERYTHING flows together so well.

Danny Boyle is a genius! He makes you connect with the characters, and feel for them. You don't just watch his movies, you become a part of them.

Scenes like this makes Danny Boyle my favorite director of all times.

  • my favorite is when Capa touches the surface of the sun :) LOVE THIS MOVIE :O

  • This scene is absolutely sublime! Danny Boyle is brilliant. I can almost imagine myself there with the crew fighting back the urge to cry at such beauty, wonder, and mystery.

  • @mikesmith35203

lol... if you were there with the crew you'd be staring at a green screen while a soft yellow lamp illuminates your face

  • calm before the storm :)

  • Love the small, unsteady movements of the camera, it's the perfect way to give some sense of scale.

  • @Buffoon1980 didn't even notice it, but you are right :-)

  • john murphy is a god damn genuis... when i watched this scene and heard that music i felt a strange kind of peace

  • Mercury is anywhere from 46 to 70 million km from the sun depending on time of year (Mercury years that is). That ought to put some scale on how huge the sun is, and the sun is thought to be smaller than most stars in our galaxy. Makes one feel quite... small.

  • @pspboy7 just a quick fact for you since u seem interested, the star that i do believe is the largest known to man named vy canis majoris, if that star were to replace our sun, people believe that the suns surface would reach past saturn, theres scale for you

  • @TheValvesoftware Yeah, that's large hehe.

  • I regret hugely that I never saw this in a movie theater. This scene, and plenty of others from this film on a huge movie screen would be incredible.

  • @arcus76 I have it on Bluray, IT'S AWESOME.

  • @arcus76 I agree with you. I watched it on DVD, I would have loved to have watched this scene on the big screen....

  • this is so beautiful.

  • Beautiful scene. Makes you wonder.

  • the music is perfect for this scene

  • Am I the only one who lmao'd at the size of Mercury? (xD

  • @pricture what about it? it was built to scale..

  • my farvorite scen from the movie!

  • I find this just beautiful :)
