  • I like the leek of the Master System a lot. And the Mark III

  • Europe... SUCK MY ASS

    Just kiddin'

But actually there's always problem to do things for european people :C

Think about it.. NTSC are pretty the same as NTSC-J............. but PAL ಠ_ಠ

  • Are you guys ever going to review the Commodore 64 ? & other personal computers that were much more popular than Nintendo/Sega consoles at the time in Europe ?

The European video game history is very interesting as we preferred personal computers over consoles at the time like the Atari ST and Amiga 500 which were the main reasons the NES failed in europe.. soooo... please :) ?

  • @janmansde3dede That's a good question. Given our ages, we didn't have much direct experience with the Commodore 64, Atari, Intellivision, and the rest of the "second" generation of video game systems. Our show is mostly geared towards how Nintendo revived the industry with the Famicom and NES, and (now in Season 2) how that landscape began changing with competent competitors.

  • 6:35 Baby Scene

  • Why no SMS 2, the sexy looking one that seemed to only have either Alex Kidd or Sonic built in?

  • @JP317 We're going (roughly) in chronological order. (The NES 2 has been on the show forever, but as a character and not a reviewed piece of hardware. Confused? So are we...) Generally there are motivations that go into creating these newer iterations of hardware that don't entirely make sense until you know the whole story, so we're going to review the NES 2 and Master System II together. More or less.

  • @SeanOrange Makes sense, I'm definitely looking forward to that.

  • 0:01 whooooop SEEEGAAA

  • 6:36 Congrats; It's a gamer.

  • 0:49 What the-- No More Heroes? I thought this was about the early gaming days, not recent ones!

  • @TheOrangeBanjo That's such an interesting point. Partly to complete the "How I Met Your Mother" gag, we had to establish that the story being told to Jr. was taking place in the present, but was about the past. In our minds, nearly all of the talking console bits are happening in the present (2007-onward). The consoles even hosted our 2009 Annual Powet.TV Awards! But I could see an argument that those bits could have been flashbacks to the "past" -- and certainly some of them are.

  • Actually, I have 2 SMS's and the model 3010 that I have has Hang On & Safari Hunt Built in. It's not the model number, but when the console it's self was made. Also, certain packages of the Master System had different things built in like Alex Kidd, Sonic, and Hang On & Safari Hunt. It's really confusing.

  • @naptimewithturtles2 For real? So far the guides I've seen have been pretty consistent, but I have to admit that my sample pool is pretty small.

  • The SMS is amazing, not as good as the NES. Better actually come to think of it, because I am a Sega Fan Boy.

  • Ah man, the NES was in europe alright, for 5 seconds as the Commodore 64 and ZX spectrum went RAMBO on his D-Pads !

  • Bah! 3:43 careful with the games! ;)

  • Is there any footage of someone actually handling an SG-1000? Not just stock photo's?

  • @mistertitanic We try to get a hold of every console we talk about, but its not always possible (either due to cost or availability). When we were first filming it, we didn't even have a Mark III on hand, but Vinnk was able to get one, and we put it into the show.

Stuff like that happens a lot. Sometimes it's a reason for delays, because we're incorporating a piece of equipment into the show that we didn't have previously. We're getting better at procuring this stuff, though! ;)

  • @SeanOrange Oh it's certainly alright. I've just never ever seen a Sega Mark 1 other than those 2 stock photo's before. not even on ebay or amazon! So it's no wonder you couldn't get one.

  • I feel sorry for the Sega Master System. If Nintendo wouldn't have put that ban in making games for other consoles then the SMS would blow the NES out of the water. Where's my time machine?

  • @BlackMegaManXtreme OOOOOH. This is why a show like LOST with a wonderful research department is great, and Famicom Dojo is only so-so!

  • @SeanOrange Uhhhh....What?

  • @BlackMegaManXtreme Never mind, moving on!

  • wats a budget title

  • @seancool1128 Like the name implies, it's a cheap game made cheaply and put onto a cheap storage medium -- like the RAM card. At least, that's what it is in the case of the Sega Master System.

"Quality" is not necessarily something one expects from a budget game, which is why Nintendo (ostensibly) did away with them for the NES and their "Seal of Quality" program.

  • @SeanOrange that explains why

  • lol funny

  • I love the parody of the title sequence.

  • *sniff* so touching

  • 0:45 How I met your mother refrence!!

  • awesome vid! gotta luv the master system....aaaaand, im watching a baby eat a game as i type this O.o

  • LOL!

I have the model A, the one with Hang-On and the Snail Maze game. Saved to favorites! :)

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • @sygo7g sorry man meant to reply using this name :D stupid Google didn't realized i was logged in as someone else!

  • @sygo7g sorry actually I wont be reviewing it I actually meant to post this as a different user, i forgot who i was logged in as.

  • lol nice 'PAL' refrence

  • oh and the FM sound chip does not plug into the back of the american Sega Master System, I found that out :(

  • @mexicanwaluigi But you CAN get a Japanese Master System (which has the FM chip built in), and heavily mod it to play US Master System games from the expansion port.

  • @SeanOrange yes i know, I bought both the japanese sega master system, and the mod isn't too bad I just bought an adapter.

  • WTF is this? Is this for kids? 1of5

  • Wow, how annoying can Sean be?! Beyond infuriating...Just state the facts, muhfucka...

  • For hating this stuff so much, you sure seemed to watch all of it.

You love it, admit it. Don't be such a closet case.

  • @SeanOrange 4:24 Ninja Gaiden, noted in the backround, WAS available for the Sega Master System. Making that statement false, for that game.

  • @McNubcake And was going to have a port to the MegaDrive

  • Will Famicom Dojo STILL be about the Famicom even though this episode is about Sega?

  • The very next video is a Denshimail about the Famicom. Does that answer your question? ;)

  • Is there any converter for the American SMS to play Japanese Mark III/ SMS games (or vise versa)?

  • @bisnumber1 You can find converters so you can play american games on a japanese system, and there are a significant amount that were american exclusive.

  • Ah, was that Vinnk's kid? Very cute. :)

  • I am thinking about getting a super famicom, but do you need an adapter to plug the ac adapter into an american outlet???

  • Not technically. US voltage is 110 whereas it's only 100 in Japan. The difference is negligible, though, as I haven't had a problem with my Japanese electronics so far. If you REALLY want a step-down converter, you can get one. Of course, any risks you take are yours!

  • it's pretty easy to see the stick on the Atari cart

  • I know, she's a TOTAL tramp!

  • I truly am loving your show. It is funny, informative, and most importantly, focused on the topic at hand. That being said, I really do think this needs to be a one-man show with Sean Orange and the talking consoles. I'm sorry but I really don't think Vinkk adds anything and might be better off with his own series showcasing his style. Again, thank you so much for assembling this show and congrats on season 2.

  • Thanks for the compliments, but I think I need to clarify the creative process: our contributions don't begin and end when we appear onscreen. A lot of planning goes in to what we do, which means there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes that you never see.

It isn't Famicom Dojo without Vinnk; just some asshole with a talking console.

  • Fair enough, though I disagree that the show would be "just some asshole with a talking console."

I look forward to more episodes in the near future and cannot wait to see what topics await us in season 2.

  • YES FINALLY!

  • awesome

  • Glad to see season 2 has begun.

  • You've really mastered the talking console thing. Great job guys. really.

  • great video. just as good as the nintendo ones. keep them coming.

  • what happened to the yooooooo thing?

  • great to see you back, what up with the no more heroes poster in the back?

  • Its good to see you guys back again!

  • I just watched it with the baby. She laughed when she saw herself.

  • Doesn't Fasmicom have a kid too? One that looks similar to the top loader except with an AV out?

This is an interesting alternative to that old man explaining things. Well done either way.

  • Yep. It's called AV Famicom and becuase it supports a composite connection (unlike the NES 2 which is RF only)

It looks just like the NES 2 except flat on top (so the Disk System's cartridge connector can rest on top of it)

  • Interesting you should bring that up... hmmm...

  • bravo! great start to season 2

  • LOL at 4:39 sean i get the joke since the sms was more popular in europe then it was in the u.s.Though it was a dirty trick by nintendo when they had that policey, for when a third party's sign up they couldn't make games for the other consoles.

  • Wow, you really good with Japanese and with Japanese accent! That's extremely impressive... but maybe it's a different person?! (Still, it's very good!)

Also, this is very informative, a lot of stuff I never knew about, like I never knew old video game systems could talk.

  • Thanks!

  • excellent, as always gentlemen.

  • Nice triumphant debut with Season 2!

  • Awesome.

    Love it.

You guys are the best with the Sega nd the Nintendo...

  • I almost bought the Mark III that RS had.

  • .. Funny that the Master System would team up with Virgin, after she did the dirty in the states. Ha ha!

    . . .

    God I miss SEGA..

  • so awesome, I want to collect them all, especially the mk III. I DO have the Master System 2.

  • Great job as always. Very witty PAL. :P I don't want to know any other details of the SMS`s optional joystick! Glas you didn`t touch on that!

  • Actually the snail maze game is also in the later model, to get it do the same as the other (up an both buttons) but hold them and power up the system. Nice vid btw.

  • ha, NES sounds like Christopher Walken. kinda.

  • If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there a Master System model with Sonic 1 as the built-in game?

  • and Alex Kid

  • Classic video, G4 quality. kudos

  • Put in a good word for us with Morgan Webb! Sessler too, I suppose...

  • "Somethin' about havin' a lot of PALs there."

    Pure gold.

  • Always liked the Master System, but mostly because of Wonderboy 3. It also seemed to be a bit more superior to the NES, but of course never caught on quite as much. :/ Rescue Mission was cool, too.

I knew about the SG-1000 I,II,III, but never really saw them. Pretty cool..

And haha, baby really likes his DS games..

  • Ouendan 2 isn't food? Really?

  • Yeah, I found out the hard way...

  • Glad to see new episodes!

  • i love talking consloes :D

  • Man, I would love to have the Mark III if it isn't so rare and expensive. Nice to have Famicom Dojo back!

  • I knew the mother was the Master System!

  • its so funny when the japanese nes talks. is that what hes really saying in japanese?

  • Awesome Video, Glad Famico Dojo is back

  • Man, I've really missed you guys.
