Did we forget Saddam and the murder and atrocities he fomented? Or his unfailing support of every terrorist with crosshairs aimed at this country? Just another example of a bunch of rude, know it all Americans, showing their arrogance. What a shame...
They deceived the American people and sent young men and women to war on false pretences, thousands of innocent people died needlessly as a result. So you think because he is intelligent and softspoken, he is exempt from these crimes? you should be embarrassed, not Umass. Power to the people
"Who is they?" The Chief of Staff doesn't make decisions like that and it is unfair to blame him by association unless that is the kind of nation we are becoming. Rudeness is not a good trait, for whatever reason and the students and faculty at UMass showed poor taste in doing so. No better than a lynch mob. I should not be embarrassed for expressing myself, only if I did it in as poor of taste as UMass, which I have not.
"they" are the Bush administration. your right rudeness is not a good trait, unless of course your talking about conduct towards war criminals like andrew card, who helped to market and deceive the american people into this failed and bloody war in Iraq. In this case, politeness is not a good trait, unless of course you want to live in a nation of spineless people who dont mind being lied to at the cost of thousands of lives.
Obviously you don't mind the thousands of lives lost after not only finding no wmd's but also after discovering that they didn't even have any good evidence of those. The al-quieda connection was completely falsified from the beginning. Saddam supported EVERY terrorist aiming at the USA? Well, apparently not Al-Quieda, not at all. I bet anything that Hitler was a kind soft spoken gentleman whenever he wanted to be, and so was every serial killer EVER (dahmer brady etc). Learn, think, then speak.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's Al Qaeda, not Al Quieda. And apparently you didn't mind the countless told that have died because of Saddam. And whether Al Qaeda was there beforehand at this point is immaterial because they are there now. It is not a fight I want but it is a fight this country has to face, whether we like it or not. Unbelieveable that you would compare a White House Chief of Staff to Hitler. Learn to spell, think before you speak, or, in your case just stay quiet so people can only guess your ignorance.
Way to correct someone's spelling of a word in Arabic, where there are inevitably multiple transliterations. Look that up. Also, learn a foreign language. Please.
More Iraquis died in the first of U.S. occupation than died in the whole time Saddam ruled. Iraq wasn't just Al Queda free before the invasion, but it kept a much needed balance of secularism vs theocracy in the Middle East. Now the region is flooded with anti-American groups like never before. And, when we finally pull our forces out of Iraq the Shiite majority is going to slaughter the entire Tsunni population and stand side by side with Iran in terms of Islam extremism.
Typical lame-brained north eastern liberals. They think they can what they want to whomever they want. Umass-Amherst is a second rate school anyway. Grow up you idiots.
Aww, is a certain foot-soldier for the Bush cabal a bit peeved that a large majority of students at a univeristy staged a protest against a man who is indirectly responsible for an illegal war and the mass murder of thousands upon thousands of brown-skinned people? Aww, this particular foot-soldier for the Bush cabal should go have a lie-down and watch some Fox News.
What a bright response from someone who is not even American! Remember your own PM supported the war as Bush did. And by by the way, it was not "illegal", it was authorized by Congress, who gives a shit about the corrupt UN. They do nothing but waste taxpayer money.
When was the war "authorized" by congress? I thought it was one of the best known facts in politics that this war was the first we have ever started without an act of congress. Yes they authorized funds multiple times after the war was declared, but Bush just plain broke constitutional rules and began the war with no congress at all. Can anybody back this up for me please? I don't have time to deal with ALL the retards in the world.
Simple, Congressional Joint Resolution 114 and UN Security Council resolutions, such as Resolution 1441 and Resolution 678. Also look up the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 passed by Bill Clinton. Not all wars or show of force must be first declared by congress.
Saddam did not bother to obey 17 resolutions that were passed, but what difference did that make. The UN is one of the most corrupt, useless political organizations on the Earth. They have little credence in eyes of many in this country and of many in Europe. If people like you had things their way, we would be bowing 5 times a day to Mecca as well as being broke. Our country has a right to defend itself and democracy from tyranny anywhere in the world with or without the Jackass UN.
Dumbest remark ever; UN is ` most useless political organization on earth`. You abviously dont no anything about the UN. Because of the UN all city`s in the US are still standing!!! Yes.. The UN is not the one who solves problems. The UN is the means to; its the classroom where adults (world leaders) come together...They solved so many problems!! We would have had a 3d worldwar without the UN!! (1962!!) Example; Start watching at 3.50 ; watch?v=ZCQ-WJXP9qA&feature=related
Oh I forgot to add, President Bush declared war on terror and it was passed and approved by Congress. Iraq is another front on that war and stop the "it's illegal and immoral" bullsh*t. Do some homework and form your own opinion. Stop listening to the left wing bias machine.
sounds like you are the pussy. Speaking truth to (corrupt) power, even in the form of boo's, is nothing to be mocked or disdained, unless of course you are aligned with said corrupt power. Thanks for tipping your hand, so the rest of us reasonable, fed-up people can disregard your future comments as manipulative drivel.

Well, for a bunch of kids wanting to be honored they disgraced themselves and a guest of their school. How rude! Why would you want to ruin your graduation with some spectacle like that? Fools.
they didn't disgrace themselves. letting andrew card receive an honorary degree and not doing anything about it would have been the disgrace - kudos to the students and faculty members
I just don't get it. Please show me the smoking gun that everyone is accusing this guy of holding? THIS is the guy who tried to get Bush to force Rumsfeld's resignation TWICE!!! He left due to his disagreements on the war.
A squad of SEAL team six soldiers throwing a flashbang into a crowded dinner hall full of politicans and rushing in to arrest leaders fo the neocon movement would be better.
They should have. Card was part of the most corrupt administration in the history of this country. They should have thrown his sorry ass out of the hall.

How do you suppose so many umass students turned out to be commie queers? Well...at least the majority of the students are trying to find work instead of whining like 1st graders.
'commie queers'? They're protesting the awarding of a degree to someone who doesn't deserve it. Also did you notice that also faculty members were protesting it?
Apparently, you didn't go past the first grade in elementary school; oherwise, you would have learned in the second grade about the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In other words, about DEMOCRACY. And Democracy is about NOT TRUSTING THE GOVERNMENT, which is why we have CHECKS AND BALANCES. This silly, not to mention stupid comment, about "commie queers" is the discourse of simpletons that have nothing to say except to throw around insults.
Yep. Unfortunately the proletariat is so easily manipulated into thinking that jingoist ideology, i.e. patriotism, is great, that they fail to realise it is simply a propoganda model used to force state alliance. Communism is no worse than capitalism either. I guarantee most people cant even define communism or capitalism.
Yep. Unfortunately the modern proletariat doesn't realise that communism is taboo due to forced jingoism of the modern media. We are all told that nationalism/patriotism is a virtue, when it is in fact a burden. Capitalism is inequality. It is it's nature.
Commie queers? How old are you 89? This country is owned and most of our imports come from the biggest communist nations in the world, China. If you hate Communist so much contact you local Republican and tell them to stop doing business with communist. Oh yeah, and get a clue before opening your mouth.
Yeah...this would only happen when the power of the voice of American people unite on principle against a scumbag war criminal and new world order shill being awarded with a free doctorate degree. Go fuck yourself you neocon Bush worshipping shithead. Ron Paul 2008!
Not because of a lack of public support but because the news media lies about his public support. Many many many in Washington dont want him in, so u r probably right. Its not up to us who gets voted in. Not a democracy.
A kook phhh. He speaks about the things the other candidates do not. All they know is rhetoric. The others represent big business, Ron represents the constitution. Learn more before posting sport.
So who are you going to vote for? A vote for any other candidate is a vote for the SAME SHIT that is in office now. You really don't know anything about Ron Paul.
What the hell. There's soldiers and civilians being massacred in this bloody war and the best thing 4.5million people is carry cardboard signs and talk loudly! Mind ya I don't blame you. Last time the Rep. were in power in a war like this the Ohio National Guard shot 13 people. Killing4 wounding8 and paralizing1! WHAT THE FUCK'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE! HOW CAN YOU STAND THI GOV.!!!!!
In an age of zero class, UMass graduates certainly showed they are lock in step with tasteless behaviour. Its human to disagree, but it shows neither maturity nor class to disagree and disrespect. Uneducated people are supposed to be angered by differences, educated people on the other are supposed to set the bar of etiquette by using grace.
I can assure you those people booing have all had the misfortune of not being raised in areas where they weren't exposed to different cultural ideas.
Yes, so is cursing out a veteran for fighting in a war or calling a black or hispanic child a racial epithet, but does the first amendment prevent you from saying "If you disagree with that person, there is a better more constructive way of expressing yourself." Please dont trivialize the issue by whipping out the first amendment cliche
if it is just a difference in cultural ideas then i respect your views. when it kills innocent people over oil then it not a cultural clash anymore. perhaps you should send your chilldren to war like i did then we can see how you feel.
Jeffc, see, we can all feel strongly about any issue. Some people say cars, abortion, the gov'mnt, war, industrialized countries kill. Point is there is ALWAYS someone who disagrees on an issue. That's why people established civility to overcome those differences. If you don't wish to act civil, I cant control you. I wont send my "children" to war, but if I disagree I will do so respectfully. I dont have to follow hateful mob mentally, Im ahead of that. And you drive a car that uses oil.
"Vote on election day 2008"? Sure, but what if morons like Kathleen Harris, Ken Blackwell, Karl Rove and the scummy Bush family hack the vote? That reminds me - where are all the people in Nov. '04 who said "Stop your shinning, we won fair and square" today when its clear John Kerry won just as Al Gore did in '00. The only thing worse than fascists are the clueless idiots who worship and follow them.
i went to UMass- amherst for a year lived in the JFK building, floor 8 hated every minute of it transfered to northwestern. working on my doctorate now and much happier. maybe it was the riots and students flipping cars and setting them on fire that made it so unpleasent.
yes bush is making this world a very dangerous place to live in by destroying powers of evil dictatorships. OH the humanity. war is bad everyone agrees with that but there nothing you can do about it now except vote on election day 2008 so quit bitching on youtube
Fine. Bush destroyed an evil dictator. Anyone can destroy. This is nothing special. His failure is in creating anything worthwhile to replace it. In the absence of any strong government, the void has been filled with chaos, anarchy, suffering and death. He removed one source of harm, only to allow it to be replaced by a greater one.
Bravo to the brave students at UMass for letting this dirtbag know what most Americans think of him and the administration he lied for/with. BRAVO... and congrats to the REAL graduates.....
"Leave it to Amherst to turn a graduation into a protest. And I don't mean the students."
arcornell: I hope you are referring to the UMass administration, because they are the ones who made the decision to turn my graduate commencement into an event that demanded loud and effective protest from the faculty, staff, community, my fellow graduates, and myself.
This is so inspiring. Students did great fights at UW Madison, UMass-Amherst, San Francisco State U, Harvard, and more as the semester ended... what will happen in the fall??
And you'll notice the nay-sayers below tend to have a bit of a pathological tilt to their posts. Highly suggest ignoring them, when you respond to their prattle it makes them feel spe-shul.
imatlas, let's just stay with the facts and leave our personal feelings about people out of it.
Given the intelligence at the time, the vast majority of democrats voted for the war and Tony Blair (who is the Labour leader in UK) agreed. Calling people liars or murderers do not help the situation right now.
No effect on the media but it certainnly effected me. i could not help but contrast the disruption this war crimial has caused at UMASS much like his cronies in Washington have caused sigificant disruptio to the lives in Iraw and the mothers of dead soldier and civilians in this illegal immorral and ludicrous war for oil companies.
I would like to send them to Iraq and Afganistan too and see the damn thing end. War sucks. killing for oil is disgusting. Maybe if it gets to $5 a gallon you will figure the role big oil has on this world.
cruzine, why don't you do what I do. I purchased stock in 3 oil companies. Any increase in the pumps for me is offset by the increase in stock price and dividends.
Listman11, that's disgusting, but also has a horribly good, sound logic to it. That the world has come to this... the only sensible choices are terrible ones.
What protest were YOU watching? The one I saw was completely non-violent, well-organized and did not interfere with the rest of the ceremony. It's hard to imagine how it could have been more civil. Oh, but I forgot, wingnuts' idea of "civil" dissent is ZERO dissent. Just the act of protesting at all is rude, right? So much for freedom or democracy.
Andrew Card probably deserves to bear some of the brunt for the current administration's war policies. How much he had control over is unclear. He did at some point lobby to have Donald

Aww, is a certain foot-soldier for the Bush cabal a bit peeved that a large majority of students at a univeristy staged a protest against a man who is indirectly responsible for an illegal war and the mass murder of thousands upon thousands of brown-skinned people? Aww, this particular foot-soldier for the Bush cabal should go have a lie-down and watch some Fox News.
durbansouthafrica 3 years ago
What a bright response from someone who is not even American! Remember your own PM supported the war as Bush did. And by by the way, it was not "illegal", it was authorized by Congress, who gives a shit about the corrupt UN. They do nothing but waste taxpayer money.
sfdoc21 3 years ago
When was the war "authorized" by congress? I thought it was one of the best known facts in politics that this war was the first we have ever started without an act of congress. Yes they authorized funds multiple times after the war was declared, but Bush just plain broke constitutional rules and began the war with no congress at all. Can anybody back this up for me please? I don't have time to deal with ALL the retards in the world.
djhenyo 3 years ago 2
Simple, Congressional Joint Resolution 114 and UN Security Council resolutions, such as Resolution 1441 and Resolution 678. Also look up the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 passed by Bill Clinton. Not all wars or show of force must be first declared by congress.
sfdoc21 3 years ago
Except that it's not the US but the UN Security Council that decides whether or not to go to war because of a UN Security Council resolution.
rspawn 3 years ago
Saddam did not bother to obey 17 resolutions that were passed, but what difference did that make. The UN is one of the most corrupt, useless political organizations on the Earth. They have little credence in eyes of many in this country and of many in Europe. If people like you had things their way, we would be bowing 5 times a day to Mecca as well as being broke. Our country has a right to defend itself and democracy from tyranny anywhere in the world with or without the Jackass UN.
sfdoc21 3 years ago
Dumbest remark ever; UN is ` most useless political organization on earth`. You abviously dont no anything about the UN. Because of the UN all city`s in the US are still standing!!! Yes.. The UN is not the one who solves problems. The UN is the means to; its the classroom where adults (world leaders) come together...They solved so many problems!! We would have had a 3d worldwar without the UN!! (1962!!) Example; Start watching at 3.50 ; watch?v=ZCQ-WJXP9qA&feature=related

Yep. Unfortunately the proletariat is so easily manipulated into thinking that jingoist ideology, i.e. patriotism, is great, that they fail to realise it is simply a propoganda model used to force state alliance. Communism is no worse than capitalism either. I guarantee most people cant even define communism or capitalism.
kobainage 4 years ago
Yep. Unfortunately the modern proletariat doesn't realise that communism is taboo due to forced jingoism of the modern media. We are all told that nationalism/patriotism is a virtue, when it is in fact a burden. Capitalism is inequality. It is it's nature.

Jeffc, see, we can all feel strongly about any issue. Some people say cars, abortion, the gov'mnt, war, industrialized countries kill. Point is there is ALWAYS someone who disagrees on an issue.
