a cardboard box coffin....what are they trying to scare pre schoolers?! How pathetic take those retards to a god damned morgue with some kids in it that got killed by acting like idiots in cars THEN we will see if their asses try to show off.
@MrCommonSense100 while I agree teenagers need a reality check and that taking learner drivers to a morgue to show them what could happen as a result of stupidity on the road the logistics of that will not happen, not in a small country town, I find your name calling quite offensive, in this case MY SON was not acting like idiot driver,
To tkoizumi - kids think they are invincible. They need to see the reality of drink/drug/dangerous/speeding driving and sometimes showing them things like this is the only way for the message to sink in. Even if only 1 life is saved due to this mock crash being shown, it would have been more than worth it!
@kkly27 we dont think we are invincible..we just dont think of the consequences, and what could go wrong...and that we could die if something does go wrong...i totaled my car a year ago speeding and been stupid with somebody i went to school with that was behind me in another car...i was 17 at the time..now im 18 by the way
@tkoizumi so u rather kids getting killed this teaches kids how to drive better and to watch were there driving and u just care abt the money u got a cold heart
@gatewayapartments My highschool former highschool (graduate now) and local police, fire and ambulance did these mock accidents several times a year as well as made available young driver education programs. i also think its a great idea, ive lost a few friends in such a manner its really unfortunate.
yes they are a good educational tool, normally aimed at the year 11 students, I would like to see it extended to the Year 10 students as well, it is very confronting for the students to see, as well as the Mock crash they also see a fairly graphic video as well, also talks from the emergency services, and in the future parents like myself, who have lost their child this way, and even survivors of fatal accidents. it all helps
I feel your pain. I am widow, due to the fact of someone thinking it would be all right to work a double shift, and then close a bar. That guy fell asleep behind the wheel and hit my husband who was walking. I do understand your pain and your message about being tired and driving.
sadly i am an example of a teen. just over a year ago i rolled my truck after falling asleep. i thank the lord i am still here. my girl freind cried that day, i try to drive safer but i spend so much time on the road, putting over 1500 miles on my truk a week.
When i was in highschool they did a mock crash at our school. I don't think it worked. On an average 1 person was killed every 3 months at my school for drinking and driving. I don't believe people think it can happen to them. This is sad but true. =(
I Think They Should Put Up The Age For Learning To Drive A Car! And Make The Punishments For Drink Driving ALOT More, You Know, Better? I Think The Whole Law Is Too Soft & Really Needs To Change BIG TIME!
It Really Does Scare Me... Theres Too Many Killers, Rapests, Drink Drivers & Loads Of Other Bad People, This World Would Be Better Off Without & The Worst Thing Is The Law Basicly Does Fuck All To Help!
Im Only 14 And I Can See That The Law & This World Has To Change... Cause If They Dont Then Things Will Only Get Worse From Here!
Yeah I Know... and thats a very sad thing to be honest... but the law really does need to come up with wats to stop things like this from happening and when it does happen then give them a hard punishment that will make them think twice you know?
no age is not the problem... people mature at their own speed. that will not fix the problem better education would help. i have been driving ever since i could reach the pedals and i have spent most my life on the road but i am a human trying to work and going to college while driving back home to help my father. you cant make people slow down to be safe this world moves to fast.
really sorry for your loss but i just find it strange sometimes, that people have to lose a loved one through illness or accident,to suddenly campaign for what's right or wrong what we should do etc...goes to show how wrapped up in our little world we are....
boy have you got that so very wrong I have been campaigning on this for years, just in Feb last year a good 6 months before my own son died, thanks to Youtube I posted the news footage of my nephew Jamies accident, that video is my most viewed with well over a million hits so it isn't a case of my campaigning just because my son died in an accident this goes back even before my newphew died nearly 9 years ago
I didn't see it either the day after it was aired I contacted Melissa and she kindly gave me a copy of the file, and the edited version of the original file footage. I am sure with Dions death last year still very much on the Yr 11 and 12 minds at SJC those from Eyre High pfffft geez many of those yr 11 students have a lot to learn. hopefully those who chose not to attend the mock crash and seminars wont meet their maker in a crash like this one
I am sorry for you loss, I admire your drive and dedication in teaching the dangers to kids
about roads safety and responsibility.
I am a police office in the Uk, working as a neighbourhood officer in Banbury, oxfordshire.
I speak to a lot of drivers in the course of my shift, and im sad to say that the majority are young drivers, speeding , displaying, driving well below the normal standard.
Some are dealt with offically, some get strong advice.keep up the good and again my sympathy.
thankyou for your comments, I am just a mum and aunty so sick of hearing about needless deaths of young ones on our roads, as you may or may not be aware the Roads between towns and cities in Australia are vast, and long distances between each, making very boring trips, in this case Dion wasn't drunk, wasn't drugged, and wasn't speeding, just very fatigued and trying to bring his dads car back before morning.
thankyou one thing I noticed with this particular mock crash is how watered down it is from the REAL events, Hopefully the video they showed the kids worked better. I think too with my sons school where it was held, the students there having lost my son as a student last year, it was still very raw for them. with the OTHER school that attended I was disgusted to be listening to their stupid comments about the whole thing
Road crashes reported to the South Australian Police are compiled and maintained by Transport SA. They are used to provide statistics to analyse current road safety programs and to assist in developing new road safety initiatives.
The number of young drivers killed or seriously injured in road crashes is a serious problem in all states of Australia. Young people aged 16 to 25 make up 13% of Australia's population but account for nearly 25% of road deaths.
Australian research found: * Young drivers often drive older, cheaper vehicles that are likely to have fewer safety features than newer vehicles * most young drivers involved in fatal crashes were driving fairly ordinary cars * very few were driving high performance vehicles.
Young drivers are more likely to drive at night and on weekends than older drivers. * 55% of young drivers aged 16-25 are killed or seriously injured in crashes that occur during the night compared with 37% of other drivers * Nearly 40% of young driver serious casualties occurred on the weekend, compared with 30% for other drivers.
Young drivers exhibit certain attributes that contribute to their higher risk of road crashes. These include: * Lack of experience * Risk taking behaviour * The use of older vehicles with less safety features * Speeding * Peer pressure

Why are they wasting tax payers money for this? To scare kids with a death note? Just teach kids to be responsible from the get go.
tkoizumi 1 year ago
@tkoizumi it raises awareness simple as that and it goes a long way to teaching young drivers to be responsible
