I was at this show. I remember Steve having some trouble with a monitor or keyboard stand. He just stood and pointed at it with a pout until someone came around to take care of it. It came across kind of arrogant, I remember thinking to myself. In his defense though, that theatre is prone to sound issues and glitches.
This is one of my Kansas favorites! Also note that I was just over 4 months old at this recording. Gosh, I wish I would've been old enough to experience this back then. Good thing I can see them now!
There are so few versions of this online..this is great! Thanks for this..its an interesting showcase of the many versions of Steve's voice, all in one song.
I imagine that was a judgment call on Steve's part. It probably depended on how his voice felt. He later would give up many more parts to Billy Greer and when he was really bad off voice wise he would switch up harmony parts and take the lower ones from the ones he usually sang.
How do you remove the white lines other than pay the guy $60 per photo?
@rickyon It's actually quite easy. You only need the program Picasa 3. You choose a photo, click on "Optimize" on the upper left and then "retouch" (don't know if these are the same words like in the English version but I guess you'll see what I mean). Now you can click on the part you want to retouch and choose another part of the photo that fits in. It takes only about 5 minutes and looks really good when it's finished :-)
Thanks for the info Michael. I downloaded Picasa 3 but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I'm getting ready to post a really great performance of "Hopelessly Human" from late 1977. Nearly flawless!
@rickyon Back then, Billy never really sang any lead parts, including Robby's part in Cheyenne Anthem. I should ask about that, but probably Steve wanted to handle all the vocals himself. Billy will try and sing whatever is asked of him.
I remember reading that Steve regretted giving some if not most of the parts to Robby to sing. I guess he felt he could do them better. I just guessed that since Billy was such a good vocalist that he would take over all of Robby's parts. Steve was a huge ego wasn't he?
@rickyon Well, regrettably...I heard that Steve was a total douche bag in the Whisky era....singing bad on purpose, refusing fan's autographs....It was really sad that the Lead Singers Disease was hitting him full force in the 90s. But however, I highly doubt he's like that nowadays...normfromal even told me that he's very nice and funny but hates being idolized.
4:09 O.o (super glad he dosen't preform in a speedo nowadays)

That's not a speedo. It's probably a pair of Adidas gym shorts. He was endorsed by them.

@rickyon ......Awkward. Lol it was probably the lighting in the pic that made it look....that way.
fraroc 3 months ago
No problem. He might as well have been wearing a speedo. He definitely wasn't modest!

Well Steve certainly sounds much better here than he did at that "Whiskey" show.

Great performance and great photos, Rick! Do you know why Steve sang Robby's/Billy's part on this one?
Wanna know how to remove the white lines in some of the photos?
Michael.

@Kansasforlife At this time, Billy wasn't singing many passages that he now sings.

@rickyon Huge indeed. From the original lineup though, Robby sang more of Steve's songs and Steve sang more of Kerry's. That was by design.

@rickyon Steve's ego was never larger than his talent.

You can hear someone say "Steinberger" at the end. That's the violin that Ragsdale was playing.

I knew you'd catch that Steve! You pointed that out in the promo photo.
