Bands like Devil Wears Prada and that shit should NOT be trying to be called metal. Euro metal is widely more true to metal roots, while being progressive enough to advance the music. MOST American metal simply tries to hop on a band wagon and make some money. There certainly is good US metal, like Lamb of God, Goatwhore and such.

@Dzschelebo No, Sentenced was the very first band ever to play something similar to what was later known as Gothenburg sound, but Carcass really had a great influence. Actually, in the terms of time, it was all happening in a few years or less... But the Three Kings perfected the style and influences were many. In one interview from 1995 Anders said that they were listening to technical death metal, like Atheist... and were inspired by it - not much 'technical' in their style ever I should say..

@TheDrapir bodom started one year after the others, but were very innovative and experimental, but just because they use a few trash riffs, power metal solos and heavy metal harmonies doesnt stop them from being melodic death metal, and to top it off a vast majority of there songs are melodeath to the bone.
they dont mix it up enough to change there genre

I'm not saying the US doesn't have its share of incredible bands - I suppose it all depends on what sub-genre you look at - but European bands are often the pioneers and the best in their respective sub-genres. Of course, this is a generalization.

@MrGnarman Okay. Metal is fucking metal. My problem is that most American "metal" is not real metal. Most of it is some sort of post-aggressive-punk-grunge-emo shit. Bands like Devil Wears Prada and that shit should NOT be trying to be called metal. Euro metal is widely more true to metal roots, while being progressive enough to advance the music. MOST American metal simply tries to hop on a band wagon and make some money. There certainly is good US metal, like Lamb of God, Goatwhore and such.
