@fendtman100 at least some people realise how dangerous our sport is and the things we have to do! We start work and finish work when it's dark and get 1/4 off the wages footballers get and all they do is dive onto the ground screaming when another player touches them! I rode 3 horses the other weekend in a point to point and had 3 fallers but I still had to get up and ride another 1 after each fall and still had to drive 3 hours home then get up for work at half 5
2011 top ten named, 2 irish golfers on it, wtf is wrong with bbc and thinking everyone in NI is british. rory just played for ireland last weekend. the IRA live in NI ,i bet the bbc dont say they are from the UK
Amy Williams should have won it, she was the only one to win a gold medal on a global scale in an actual sport (Darts never has and never will be a sport).
Fine. Any sports person deserves what they get out of their chosen profession. Many are grossly over paid but that is a totally different argument however. These animals are bred to run and live a privileged life and again this is a totally different argument. Many comments are made regarding horses used in racing involving the use of the whip normally very misplaced and without knowledge.
i don't mean to offend anyone in any means because this just my opinion but anyone who uses animals for a sport does not deserve a trophy of any kind.
Andy Murray, David Haye, Jessica Ennis, Lewis Hamilton, Alistair Cook, Lee Westwood, Andrew Strauss, Chris Ashton, Amir Khan, Rory McIlroy, Graeme Swann
Legend AP McCoy..for me there is no better personality than lads who risk there lifes every day...summed up last weekend when Jack Tyner a 19 year old jump jockey died from his injuries in a point to point fall in Ireland..brave lads and no one deserved this more than AP..a true champion
i love seeing a sport that is so underestimated ,,,, jockeys are underestimated starving themselves on little or nothing and getting up at the break of dawn to conrol an animal of a half tonne weight ,,,and year in year out being flung from horses and breaking every bone in their body !!!well done A.P
this shows what is exactly wrong in british sport. Being a jockey is very hard and dangerous don't get me wrong but come on you can't put it on a level with athletics, weightlifting, gymnastics, swimming, wrestling, etc etc sportsmen and women. And anyone even trying to justify phil taylor being up there is having a laugh the guy probably gets out of breath walking up stairs.

Pretty annoyed that the guy who has ridden 14 horses to their deaths in a so called sport that exists solely for the purpose of betting wins this award. Ahead of our first individual winter Olympics gold medalist for 30 years. What does our stupid Xfactor obsessed country know about real talent anyway.
@bennybookvarm whatever you may think of racing and the way it works, the fact remains that jockeys are hugely talented athletes. This isn't about the politics of a sport, but about the individual athletes. McCoy has eceptional talent, and was voted for by those who are aware of it, which unfortunately so many others seem not to be. Equally, as you seem to know little of horse racing, I have no knowledge of the skeleton bob, therefore could reasonably assume that the sledge does all the work!
The people who say racing's not a real sport are just ignorant. If your averagely fit person went to ride in a horse race they would almost certainly fall off with exhaustion by the first mile. Riding in a 3m chase is equivalent to running the same distance, and jockeys do that as many as 7 times a day. Furthermore, It takes huge skill to pilot a horse over one steeplechase fence and stay on, let alone over twenty or thirty. Jockeys are superb athletes, and finally SPOTY has recognised this!
the thing that annoys me is that thing how long phil has been an outstanding darts player and 15 times world champion- for all that he has achieved, he should have won! thumbs up if you agree!
Woooo he wn the national who cares lots of people won it they wernt nominated alright 15 times champion thats a load of balls 2 horse racing is fixed bottom line he shouldnt have won it should have gone too a real sports man like phil taylor!
darts, perhaps it shouldn't be called a sport, because in darts there are no excuses ... there are no bad calls, weather conditions, illegal equipment, huge contracts and all the rest that goes along with football, baseball, basketball, american football and the like ... its four to five hours a day on the pratice board ... perhaps darts is a sport ... and everything else is just a pastime
@jimbob0802 A SPORT LOL what r u on son crack? Its a past time where u go to drink a beer and have some fun, fair enough hes good at what he does but to be classifed as a sport DONT GIVE ME JOKEZ
@BSohalonly1 Have you ever played darts? If you have you'll know how tough it is. Like all other sports, at an elite level it requires huge concentration, skill and focus...and yes, a physical outlay too - most games are played out over a couple of hours. Of course you can play it as a hobby, just like you can with snooker, cricket or golf. But at a competitive level, it ticks all the boxes required of a sport - that's why UK Sport classified it as one. So do me a favour mate...jog on.
@jimbob0802 OK i agree he has got skill he probably kick my ass on darts, but playing computer game requires concentration and skill lets make that sport yeah. lets make playing fifa 11 a sport. PHYSICAL ASPECT LOL hes a fat fucker who drinks beer. So how does it tick all the boxes of a sport? Does he psych out the opponent with his belly? LOL mate Ur argument is incomprehensive. Look at rugby or football or tennis with real talent and skill and grit and determination and ur'll know SPORT
@BSohalonly1 Darts is a sport you div. It is the definition of a sport. A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skillful activity requiring commitment, strategy, and fair play, in which a winner can be defined by objective means. Darts is almost impossible to get really good and just because something is fun and can be played in a pub with a beer is irrelevant. Do you consider snooker a sport? I would like to know what you consider as a sport? clearly you are confused about it.
@DiscoveryCR A proper athlete, imagine other countries watching this, like russia, china etc etc with the unbelievable athletes they have watching this having a right laugh.
@DiscoveryCR She won it in 2008. Not that talented that she deserves to win it twice. She only won it because she is a royal anyway, and the fact that all of the other people she was against had about 2% of her charisma
You obviously believe a jockey does not need of posses any tactical qualities, judgment of tempo, balance, bravery, dedication, motivation, strength. Forget how dangerous a sport it is, forget he starves himself. How many sportspersons go out and compete hungry and severely dehydrated before they start? Do you know what gets a jockey through these situations I will tell you adrenalin and a desire to win. Formula 1 is about the vehicle not the driver.
@bahboro you are recognising challenges that meet the jockey, but make up an opinion about other sports without knowing much about them and what challenges the competitors face
@pinnochio007 it definately shouldve been phil, the powuuuurrrrrr taylorrrrrrrrr! but apparently, darts is not a sport. they are probably right there mind haha.
@pinnochio007 i agree but atleast he was nominated in the first place, it means big times for the darting community! darts is slowly but surely starting to maybe finally being seen as a sport and not just a pub game :D
@pinnochio007 Has phil the power taylor broke most of the bones in his boby and has he been on a diet of boiled chicken and tea and sugar all of his life and sit into a bath of near boiling water every night just to loose a pound or more,i doubt it....alot of people outside of horseracing dont realise what the life a jockey is, they take their lives into their hands every time they get on a horse. They are the bravest men and women in sport .Well done Ap mccoy you well deserve it.
