Speirs is the best character. Even if he's often brutal, the characterization they used in his character is perfect. The way he quickly and without a word flips his thompson over his shoulder to massacre the POWs is one of the defining moments of his character. (just my opinion.)

I'm reading the book and it doesn't really even mention the incident, but it does say that the guys of several platoons in the 506th were being told to not take prisoners. He was probably sent over to do the job.

speirs, before he died, suggested to winters at the reunion that they were true but didn't confrim them. he shot one of his sergeant for disobeying a order in combat. it was reported to his commanding officer but the officer was killed in action the following day so the incident didn't pursued at any level. HOPE THAT HELPS PEOPLE
