I'm not a psychologist, however, but people have the ability to see patterns etcc, that aren't really there - an example would be ;-P

I've been to Texas, among other places. Everywhere I go, I occasionally see really cool cloud displays. And I know they can't all be due to humans because I have read books with reports of strange phenomena in the sky from the 19th century and before.

So either it's aliens, or, here's a crazy thought, the atmosphere is a roiling, unstable system heating by huge quantities of energy from the sun, that occasionally produces odd clouds and interesting displays that confuse the occasional Texan.
