I have a 2006 LR3 (Discovery 3). I traded in my fully loaded '99 Wangler TJ. Right off the showroom floor, the LR3 will go places the Wrangler couldn't go unmodified. When the lockers were engaged, the Jeep could not be steered. When the going gets tough in the LR3, I just turn the knob on the console to Rock Crawl and everything is automatically taken care of and ready to go. That includes raising the height of the vehicle.
It's illegal because of the location. And it did perform well considering it's ground clearance and the depth of the ruts the Hummers made. Regarding the "it's not a land rover" comment, I believe you meant to say it's not a Defender (or the like body style).
