Two cousins of mine and I sat out around midnight this past Sunday (Aug. 16) here in the US and saw some beautiful shooting stars. They must have been remnants of the Perseid shower. There were the usual quick, white streaks and some yellow ones with barely visible smoky contrails. I saw one out of the corner of my eye that looked like a blue flare or Roman candle, but it was so fast. I think altogether we saw about 6 or 7 within the span of an hour and a half. (The Milky Way was pretty, too).
