I know Barrymore is totally unfashionable these days but that routine was absolutely perfect in everyway. I remember seeing it as a child and wished we had a vvieo recorded - thanks and lovely to see this again..
@ty62100 ..SO YOU SHOULD BE ,,,ITS A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE FROM EVERYBODY ON STAGE ..ITS GREAT!!. I REMEBER WATCHING THIS LIVE YEARS AGO AND IT STICKS IN MY MEMORY AS ONE OF THE GREATIST PERFORMANCES I EVER SAW.
No body looks at the good things barrymore did ....only the bad! ...one time on strike it lucky or strike it rich I remember a there was a poor couple and they wanted to buy a car ....anyway they did'nt win much and barrymore said "dont worry i'll buy you a car" from his own money and once there was a little girl with health problems and he paid for her and her family to visit disney world or something like that! and he so nice to people!......he's not a bad guy honestly! the press ruined him
whatever you think of Michael Barrymore its good to see the lads having a good time and enjoying their time in the lime light, god knows they deserve it whilst we go to our 9-5 job these boys are putting theirs lives on their lines, for us.. and this goes for all soldiers, regardless of their nationality

Michael Barrymore will kill again. He has got a taste for it and its only a mattter of time. He needs to be stopped before it is too late. Stuart Lubbock is just the surface of the deeply disturbing psychological facet of Barrymores twisted and perverted mind.
@kingdomofdalriada It's libellous remarks such as this that lead to misunderstanding and malicious gossip. Michael didn't kill once, so how can he "kill again"? He has never even been charged, and still remains one of the funniest entertainers we have seen for many years. I look forward to seeing him in Blackpool on 16th July.
Despite everthing I really wish that Barrymoore and the general public could bury the hatchet and let him resume his career. This video is a real marvellous act and one of the very best ever performances in the history of The Royal Variety Performance. After Barrymoore's appearance on Big Brother the last time I saw him in anything was in a production of Scrooge a couple of years back. I only saw the advertisment, not the actual show.
That sounds familiar. It could be I'm getting slightly mixed up. I remember seeing the all or some of the Strallens twice. It may be that the Scarlett, Summer and Zizi were interviewed and perhaps did a number on the 'Barrymore' TV show and Zizi later appeared on stage alone to sing the duet with Barrymore. The song was the Streisand number 'How lucky can you get'. He dropped her into the orchestra pit on the final 'WOW...how lucky..can you get'.
Cheers! I had a look at the past RV's and 1993 seems to be the only year when Michael Barrymore was listed. Most of that performance is already on utube but there is no footage of the Strallens or The Young Set.
@Sarahfiona8 That's interesting. It was defo done in a theatre setting. MIght it have been a Children's RV? (One time I think he appeared with Dana and Frank Bruno) and he did one or two televised Prince's Trust variety shows...I remember one where Barrymore sang 'I'm going to get lit up when the lights go on in London' on a wartime theme. He sang live which was unusual and it was a show-stopper. I'll keep thinking and looking for the vid.
@KennnnnnyTucky Could have been a children's RV. It was definitely a variety show that was televised. There was a section where Barrymore was singing with a marching band and at the very end Zizi came running on and and knelt down next to Michael Barrymore. I remember reading in the papers that the adults backstage had forgotten to give Zizi her cue to run on but she herself remembered despite being so young and came running on the right moment anyway.
Barrymore at his very best. Great idea and outstanding choreography/production(Alan Harding?). Barrymore was not the greatest singer or dancer but he could hoof it with the best of them and create magic on stage. Another favourite was at another Royal Variety? where he did a number with the Strallen's (Summer, Scarlett and then toddler Zizi). Midway through the song he held out Zizi at arms length and literally dropped her into the orchestra pit. Again Magical. What a loss to Light Ent.
@Sarahfiona8 Hi. I don't think there was a commerical video but I've got a copy of the performance on VHS somewhere in a box in the garage. Can't quite remember the year but think it was mid-90's when Barrymore was at the top of his game. I'll see if I can find it.
1 second ago Cheers! I had a look at the past RV's and 1993 seems to be the only year when Michael Barrymore was listed. Most of that performance is already on utube but there is no footage of the Strallens or The Young Set.
Would be great to see this done again on a much bigger scale, I was looking at a Video of the Chinese and Russians marching to the Pet Shop boys my god can they keep things in sync and with a vast number of people it looks mighty impressive
Troops were out of synch at the end! Barrymore has always been a great entertainer - and certainly superb at interacting with fellow performers and audiences. This is funny, but it is predicated on stereotypical homophobic viewpoints toward effeminacy and promiscuity - shame. Meanwhile, it remains a terrible waste that Barrymore is not using his many skills in the world of television and entertainment
Michael Barrymore was and still is an excellent entertainer regardless of what has happened in his personal life. I remember this clip when it was on TV. Good to see it again.
Brilliant ! Many thanks for posting this. I remember seeing it on the TV all those years ago and was in stiches for a 2nd time when I saw your posting !

Part of Barrymore's routine at the 1993 Royal Variety Performance. Must be amongst the best RVP performances of them all.
Whatever your personal thoughts about the man, let the entertainment speak for itself. This was pure class.
