  • why not use a Quick Release AK scope mount?? Cheaper and if you need to clean your rifle you don't have to take your scope off and loose zero..

  • Good video but your instructions are wrong. You left out the re-installation of the sight leaf spring. Should put a note on the video as the spring is part of the tension system.

4.6. Remove the hinge pin, cover, and re-install the leaf spring. Be sure the leaf spring is properly seated in it’s groove or the Dog Leg™ cover will not install properly. The leaf spring may be slightly flattened in a vise to facilitate installation of the cover.

  • They make a separate version for the 308. I picked one up and it installed about as the one in the vid did. Just make shure you got enuff rise on your scope to accommodate the peep sight. I made that mistake already for you.

  • Hey MAC, is there a flip up back iron sight that will line up with the AK front sight using that system? That would make it as versitile as any AR when it comes to sights.

  • Would this be considered an export restricted item if I wanted to order one to Europe? Also, are you aware of any low profile rear BUIS that would work on that rail? It would be a really good way to improve the sight radius or atleast would be better than welding a G3 rear sight to your top cover :D

  • Hey have you tested the Parabellum Armament AK Adaptive Rail System? It looks about the same price and seem to work the same way? I'm in the market for one for my SAIGA 308 and so far i'm leaning for the Texas model, but i'd like you input if you have any

  • @DaytonaRoadster I am currently evaluating the AKARS from Parabellum Armament. So far I really like it, but I'll give my final thoughts in the review video. I think both are solid performers, and the TWS system has proven itself with some notable AK trainers. I like the design of the AKARS better though, but only time will tell if it's as durable as the TWS. So far, it seems great though.

  • @Sturmgewehre thanks, any one reason why you prefer it over the other? I'm lookin to order one this month? Also any reason the AKARS system might not work with SAIGA 308 model, the TWS has a specific model for the SAIGA 308 were the AKARS seems to be universal. Thanks

  • @DaytonaRoadster Oh, .308... right. I'm not sure if the AKARS will fit that rifle. I don't have one here to try it on.

  • @Sturmgewehre lol well that helps make my decision then, thanks

  • Is there a way to have iron sights with this system?

  • Any thoughts on the AKARS?

  • i just installed one, i cant say i like hitting the leaf spring with a hammer and punch. however it is clearly an upgrade over the GI version. i recommend that you loosen the hex screws before locking everything together. use lock-tight and snug up as a last step. kill some commies for mommy

  • Is it possible to cowittness the aimpoint shown in this video with this set up and the texas weapon systems peep site?

  • What type of mount is the Aimpoint sitting on?

  • Does the rail cover fit Yugo m70 underfolders?

    Great video.

  • Excellent video... I like the flip up idea and it should hold zero better than the the straight cover replacements that I've seen. I just wish the price was little less. If I had an 800 dollar AK, maybe but for my 450 or 500 AKs... tough call. Anyway, excellent work as always.

  • Tws rail fail......my $800 trijcon ran out of windage adj before I could zero..tws customer service sucks..scope zeroed just fine on ar15...tws is no better than $29.00 rail..waste of money..

  • @HatchetForce5 Perhaps the AK you're mounting it to was out of spec. You can't automatically assume the top cover was out of spec.

  • Can this fit on a psl or svd? If so, will I need a stronger recoil spring?

  • could u use this for a romaninan draco?

  • @jigglejack100 Yes.

  • @Sturmgewehre thnx now i can make an awesome sbr XD

  • So which scope mounting system do you like better for the AK, the Mako Rail/scope mount or the Dog Leg?

    Cheers

  • Will this top cover fit the Draco?

  • After seeing your review on this I got one. I have an SA85M which has no side rail available so thought this was a good option. Nice quality but had some problems right off in the installation. First, the front pin did not fit without dremeling the sight block as the lip was too wide. Fit fine afterwards. The release button did not fit in the slot either. Had to do a lot of filing on it and still having some issues with it. Put a Leatherwood M30 on it and it works very well now.

  • could you remove the front sight, and use AR style flip up sights with this TWS rail and a railed foregrip or the railed gas tube? cause that would be awesome, i dont feel like spending that much money to find out though, unless someone knows already.

  • I seem to have some difficulties removing the leaf sight. A gentle tap is hardly enough and a solid whack still doesn't disengage the leaf sight.

This is an Arsenal AK-47 that I'm working with and it is built relatively well but I don't think I should be having this sort of problem with it.

There isn't any mention of the lever to the side of the leaf sight in the instructions that came with my TWS Top Cover. Could this lever be a locking mechanism of sorts.

    Any tips or suggestions?

  • What's the name of the song you play at the beginning of the video?

  • Thanks for posting the site! I was so happy to see that there is a version for the YUGO. HaHa the drop down menu asks is this for a yugo? Yes-No....Yes send me the Yugo System. NICE!

  • Was that you or your weapon in Shot Gun News?

  • it seems very nice option and i'm looking forward to it, but first lets see how it will show itself in a long run. spring tension on the back that what worries me the most

  • I actually emailed the manufacturer with questions before I saw this vid. The one problem that I have with my SLR-95 is that is has the plunger type recoil spring guide. I wonder if they have an option for that? I hope so, 'cause I'd love to be able to use it. I don't have a side rail mount.

  • Hi there sturm, I noticed you did not use the rear sight leaf spring when you installed the TWS rail. The TWS dogleg gen 2 website says that you will need to retain the leaf spring, have you noticed any issue with that or did you later return the spring?

  • @bigcrabrob Mine didn't come with instructions so I had to wing it, I got one of the very first top covers to ship. I tried mounting it with the spring but it felt way too tight to me, so I removed it. I never had any problems with the top cover loosening or losing zero without it on my rifle. I've since removed the top cover. If I remount it, I will try it again with the spring left in the rifle.

  • @bigcrabrob

The instructions on the website say the spring may need to be flattened a little in a vise if it's too tight. I tried the MI mini red dot mount recently and it was not solid enough for me. This mount looks like it is more stable and I think the leaf spring will make it rock solid.

  • @boisdog I can tell you that my TWS rail has been 100% since installation, and I have fired at least 300 rounds since the install and multiple times lifting the cover for cleaning. The rail is on a x39 Arsenal and I have switched between a 1-4x30 mm Konus Pro and eotech 512. Just for shits and giggles I fired 30 rounds at a 600 yard man sized target and 26 were in the chest area... the misses were likely me pulling the shots.

  • would this work for a amd 65?

  • @brunse06 Unfortunately I don't think it will work with the AMD's unique side folding stock. The dog leg rail attaches at the rear through the rearmost stock screw on the trunnion, so side folders will probably be out of luck. I can't say for sure though.

  • @brunse06 The Gen2s might work though!

  • is that a Midwest ind rail on the front?and are the two rails the same hight? also i am looking at getting an sgl-31 or slr-107, have you had any jams or problems with the gun? thanks

  • can you still slide on the a russian PSO scope on this?

  • I am intrigued... this may have to go on a future AK build...

  • it looks like the ak 47 MW2 cover, LOL

  • FINALLY, someone makes a AK dustcover with a flush mounted picatinny rail instead of the rail setting 3 inches up off of the dustcover!! WOW!!! Looks to be a great product and soon as i pick up my 74 il be grabbing one of these suckers!! Great review and thanks for showing us this long awaited railed dustcover!!

  • I remove the rear sight by lifting it up and use a brass punch to compress its leaf spring and then remove the sight. That way you wont have to hammer on it or make the sight fly off.

  • Do Russians also go crazy over American arms! I doubt, they are so proud! And the Chinese Type 03 is not a copy of the Czech Vz58!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was a lazy lie!

  • hmmm...work on my yugo underfolder?

  • why wouldn't use you just the ak side rail?

  • @gidian Because this sits way lower. If you order it with the rear peep sight, and then mount a red dot on it as well, you can actually co-witness the sights.

  • @palerider1775 i think it would be faster & cheaper to use a quick detach side rail...just saying.

  • @gidian True. But you can't co-witness iron sights that way, and you can't get proper cheek weld. For those reasons alone, most AK people that know about this rail are really excited about it (and probably mean to, or already own one). If you go to Texas Weapon Systems' website, and follow the "view the development process" link at the bottom of the home page, you'll see what I mean.

  • Just wondering if you are able to cowitness with the peep sight thru the scope/red dot to the front sight.

    Thanks for the great reviews.

  • nice alternative to the Kerbs rail

  • This looks promising. In my opinion, the primitive design of the top cover, (and the difficulties that smiths have had developing a simple, but effective sight rail on it), is what threatens to keep the AK from eevolving into a 21st Century battlerifle.

  • Will this work on the Polish Tantal AK-74?

  • I know a few people would love to have one if they worked on an sks . Great video.

  • Great review I gotta get one now!

  • This would be great on a compact AK like an FEG AMD65. Great option for mounting a rear peep sight and Trijicon reflex sight w/ a throw lever.

  • is the kit the same for 47 and 74?

  • @DudeNumberOnePlus Yes, they are the same.

  • I love how working on an AK involves a stick & hammer.

    Leave it to the russians

  • hmmm could you use an iron sight that mounts to the rail? like a flip up sight.

  • @mrcheepjew It has a optional peep sight from the manufacturer... I was wondering Mac if you ever got your hands on one and had have you tried it out is it really worth the $40 dollars currently for it?

  • @mrcheepjew they make a peep sight that fits on the rear

  • awesome!

  • nice. ive been looking for an optics mount that doesnt sit 2 inches above the top cover. this looks like a great mount, thanks for sharing.

  • does this rail sit to low to be able to use the peep sight with the midwest industries rail

  • Great video! How do you think it will hold up to 7.62x39 ammo?

  • @BUZZKILL59able That's what I want to know!

  • @BUZZKILL59able In my experience they hold up great. It's a solid design.

  • Dude...first time I have really ever seen you work on one of your AKs...well the side scope mount...maybe....

Way Cool....Love the "Jesus Christ Clip"....I fully Understand EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN.....LOL

    Maybe you just had a day....but .25" @ 100...not bad...it would do the job...

Great Video My Friend...If I had an AK I would look at them...Bought a new Pistol instead...

    Target On...

    E1

  • guys im not from the state but can you a real A.K made in Russia ??!!

  • @999sharif Yes, but a civilian model that's only semi automatic. The Saiga.

  • I am actually glad u had to repost this vid, how is it holding zero after having it for a while?
