I can imagine the thought, planning and effort that went into making this. When I saw you "sleeping" in the pod in the opening scene, I thought this was going to be a spoof of the movie (most of which are not very good). But I was pleasantly surprised and it was great to see the "then and now" comparison of the sets. Well done!
Simply amazed at your tenacity in doing this. Fantastic and so informative. I've always wanted to know where this movie was filmed and what those locations look like today. I was very young when I saw this and it was one of my best memories. Thanks for your had work.
DUDE, YOU'RE KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!! I love your stuff!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!! My husband and I went around CA to see Bela Lugosi related and Halloween locations. It was awesome....BUT YOU'RE INCREDIBLE!! Keep it up, brother!!!! <3 We're in NJ
Why did you drop that piece of building material left behind from the set? I would have paid $100 to own it! Put it on Ebay, and I would be out-bid by die-hard fans I'm sure!
This is something I have never seen regarding such dedication, research, or film/video craft. Hire yourself out to location managers and do the same. This would fall in the genre of documentary. Well Done!!!!
Totally fascinating. They writers had their mission leaving in April 2012. Back then I was sure I'd be dead by now....it seemed SO far away. It seemed as far away then as their journey took in the movie. Now?...here we are. Now what?
The best !! I've been to a few of the spots ...(Malibu Creek and Zuma Beach) and wondered in my head what you put down here ! Thanks for the excellent video !
Fascinating vid ! Epic movie and cool to see the 'now' shots compared to the actual footage ( I had a feeling the forbidden zone was probably filmed in Utah or Arizona)
My favorite ending of all time was when Charlton Heston slammed his fist down on the button, that denotated the bomb, using the entire atmosphere to create an end to more of the same world/society bullshit, that he took a moment see would just go on and on.
I thought your work on this project was absolutely incredible.... I could tell a lot of time when into it..... fantastic to watch it. Thanks for sharing!!!
This is an interesting video, thank you. I have just ordered the box set of the original films, which I am going to show the kids. I hope to go and see the new movie!
This is amazing!! I love it! Thanks for letting us see the inside and outside view of all the scenes! Impressed by all your work and research on the locations that were used. I love the Planet of the Apes!! ; )
VERY COOL! One of my favorite films (although I like Beneath Planet of the Apes even better). I just love to see how the locations have both changed and remained the same. Thank you for the hard work.
The 3.38 disolve of the past river rock to the present is really cool.
Thanks for this scenic tour, making areas of intrigue so conveniently available to us all! :-) BTW, I highly recommend both Lake Powell and the Malibu beach area where this masterpiece was filmed.
FANTASTIC job matching the scenes.....I remember seeing this in 1968, and the ending stunned the audience into absolute silence; never before or since have I experienced that - still a powerful movie.
they should do part one of the origanal planet of the apes all over only use updated actors and modern ape graphics and same cool music, and same sceens now that would be a huge hit...
As a a Californian and Los Angelian I am really impressed with your artistic creativity to showcase a film of great import for its time. You are a very talented individual and as an Apophile since forever. I thank you very much for sharing this work with us. Please do so for other movies if its withing your pervue to do so.Best of Luck to you
5 stars for your awesome work! your video can help geologist and biologist to see what changes in environment have taken place in the last few decades.
totally unbelievable!!! how did you know where all the shots were? you must know someone who worked on the movie or have the storyboards...... mindblowing...thanks and proof that you get better entertainment on Youtube then the TV. Thanks
I've always been fascinated with Planet of the Apes. I was born the same year this movie was released - 1968 the Year of the Monkey. The score by Jerry Goldsmith is the most chilling soundtrack ever. It must have been an awesome experience travelling to these locations. Love the then and now transitions. It's neat to see how they built their sets around the geography. Great work!
Absolutely stunning!!! Man that's a LOT of work my friend. The piece is well edited, photographed, concieved!! You have PERFECT registration in the matching of your angles and positions to the film's footage! I am curious, what editing system are you using? Steve :)
I would like to know why there are three people that have voted thumbs down for this video? It does not deserve a negative rating at all. They have know idea how much work, research, and camera skills it took to pull this off. I think it is a very professional production that deserves a lot of credit !! Keep em coming Herve and your work will be rewarded one day.
Hey Herve I think your on to something here. I have never seen anyone do what you have done. Lots more movies to explore the on set, to present time. I was thinking of some westerns, but I see you already have that covered with Dances with wolves. Maybe Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or Capricorn one? Excellent work Man !! I will look forward to seeing your next venture.
Great video, love the fade in and fade outs of the Planet of the Ape sets and scenes with the new video. Now I know where to go on vacation next year!
WOW! This video is awesome. Done with almost a religious devotion. I know it was TONS of work! Good eye!I love the movie and seeing this vid made me love it more...thanks
This is fantastic! You should be given professional recognition for this very well done piece of work. How were you able to access the difficult/remote areas?
Great job! I live in Utah and I've always loved the Ape-lore at Lake Powel. I heard that the spaceship that was sunk for the film is still on the bottom of the lake. How cool would that be to find it and pull it up. It's just a wooden frame with metal sheets on it, but it could be intact still.
Brilliant. I can't remember another film where the audience broke into spontaneous applause at the end. Most were on their way out before the National Anthem started...
Brilliant job on this! Very thorough. I've been to the Fox Ranch locations many times myself. I sure wish Fox would use your video as a supplement/extra on a future DVD release. Congrats on a GREAT job!
Great job! I like to replicate other peoples photos in the way you do video, though yours here are way more extensive. Must have been A LOT of work getting the angles/positions and focal length right. Your transitions between movie and your shots are sweet too!
@HerveAttia This is so neat, how the filming location's of the " Planet of the Apes " 1968 , look now or around may 2010 when your video was released Its amazing how recognizable the "Apes" filming locals are considering 42 years have gone by and the west coast dynamic geology I know they have location information Internet Movie Data Base but how did you find the exact like camera positions on rocks at Lake Powell UT. and the beach South CA Pacific coast Great work Herve thanks!

@SuperODST1 He was writing " I CAN TALK" but Dr. Zaius seen it and scratched it away with his walking stick.
He knew man was on the planet first but for some reason they destroyed themselves and became slaves.
He wanted to keep it a secret from the apes, guerrilas and chimpanzees.
This is a great video.
It is always cool to see where they filmed this great movie.
Great work by the man who retraced the steps of Planet of the Apes.
