There are obscure characters in doctor who and popular ones. Romana is popular, the rani hasn't even turned up in a big finish audio. And they include nearly everyone. Including Susan.

Romana is the only character in the show's history that gave us an extensive look at another decent Gallifreyan, and the only companion who was ever on the Doctor's level (time lord, President of Galllifrey, etc). They badly need to bring hr back.

Folks, we may have to come to terms with the likelihood that the BBC is not going to re-introduce ANY more of the classic series characters. Sarah Jane was the exception that proves the rule. WE keep talking about Romana, Rani, Susan, et al, but the Who show makers keep writing about the Doctor being the last Time lord, period. I see no mention from Moffatt about anybody else being brought back. They don't even express an interest in showing the McGann Doctor again. It's OUR dream, not theirs.

@CaptDingDong They brought back The Master and K9, the Sarah Jane Advrntures makes reference to Liz Shaw ACE and Barbara and Ian, Jo Grant appeared, The Brigadier came back, there's nothing indiciating tye won't bring others back so it's not that obscure a proposition, the defining factor is that thye have to have a good reason to bring them back not that they don't ever. Steven Moffat has even overseen the reappearance of an alien that comes from the Patrick Troughton era.

This was never stated in the show, therefore one writer's belief is not anothers. It has not been stated during an actual episode (offical cannon) that Romana even left E-Space, let alone became the President. So it is still possible for Steven Moffat to bring her back, even if RTD didn't want to.

Holy shit, that's the best news ever! I thought we were being spoiled when I heard there was going to be a Moffat two-parter in this latest series. Fantastic, absolutely amazingly fantastic, you just made my day with that.

Shame about Gallifrey though, as fauxutubeuser said, if anyone could do something awesome with the Time Lords it would be Moffat. Anyway, I wouldn't want Romana back if it were going to be fanfic nonsense.
