@unclejimbo827 originally a '53 goldtop which has been repainted. The lead pickup has been replaced with a mini-humbucker from a Firebird which feeds back. (all IIRC)
@DaMuttzNutz The microphonic Firebird pickup hasn't been in there since sometime in the 70s. He said that it made a lot of noise and feedback so he took it to a guitar store and asked them to fix it. They closed and he never got it back, so he used a different one. But this one is from a Firebird too.
@unclejimbo827 It's a Les Paul that started as a Gold Top with P-90s. He (or someone else) painted it black and changed the bridge pickup to a mini-humbucker from a Firebird. I don't know if he added the Bigsby, but that's there too.
I love this guy. Just doesn't give a shit! Just goes for it. Doesn't seem to care if it's wrong or right, and even when it's wrong it just seems right. Neil Young is the raw core essence of what Rock is all about. Keep on rockin' us in the free world, Neil!
The same '59 deluxe, and the same beat up les paul he has played for the entirety of his career, can't believe it's a 15 watt amp and a single 12" speaker, but the tubes, when you hit 'em hard with voltage, they scream. That man's an all-out rebel, and still just as rebellious at 65 as he was at 20, if not more.
.....and a lot of people misinterpret this song (can't imagine how, seems pretty clear to me) but I saw a scanned copy of the original handwritten copy of this song, and he wrote "free world" ----- just like that, in quotations EVERY time. He was saying that to call ourselves and our country "THE free WORLD" is pompous an arrogant, not to mention ignorant. Hell, there are plenty of westernized civilized places that have more freedom than we do (they fight for it) but alas, blindness always wins!
@punkeratheart - you are bang on the nail there mate. The best way to keep a slave happy is to indoctrinate him into believing he's the free-est man on the planet. Tell him often enough and he'll believe it, even while he's handing his wages over to the insurance companies and banks every month and is shit scared of asking his boss for an extra week's vacation, never mind a raise.
@thegirl44 Yes, and in fact during darker times I was in a cell with a man who made the same misinterpretation about Springsteen's "Born In the USA", which is really really really stupid. Get past the chorus line of that song, and read the rest of it, it is clearly not an homage to the land of the free, home of the big mac.

@ernieutubea Neil has maintained his integrity, his artistic freedom and his relevance without selling out, and commands tremendous respect because of it... oh, and he rocks.
Saw Neil last year in DC, one block from the White House at Constitution Hall and was hoping he would play this one for the political significance. Didn't play it, but it was one hell of a show!
Saw the same show in Cologne and it was fucking brilliant and as the Glostonbury voice said we were also blown away, so blown away, especially since the show was so beautifully located directly at the river rhine, ships were passing by when we were rocking, so cool, legend, i'll have to admit, true rock legend!
Saw Neil Young at Glastonbury and everyone i was with was totally blown away by a majestic performance. I went straight out and bought some of his albums. Legend!
Saw the same show in Cologne and it was fucking brilliant and just like you said, we were also blown away, so blown away, especially since the show was so beautifully located directly at the river rhine, ships were passing by when we were rocking, so cool, legend, i'll have to admit, true rock legend!
Was at this concert, I have seen Neil many times over 25 years but this was possibly his greatest show ever - the man is a legend. i have never seen anyone play with such passion, power and integrity. He acquired a whole new fan base that night
If you haven't seen it, the absolute BEST version of this song EVER was ONCE available on SNL. I once had it in my favorites and it was removed. Anyone know how I can get it back?
Neil Young is the reason I play guitar...and piano....banjo....heh...harmonica...he is my inspiration....I will never...ever be as good as him...but I'm not bad...and it's always a tribute to Neil whenever I play...
I'm watching all your videos. You're a star. Reliving the moments almost a week later makes me think just how lucky we all were to be there. Even though my wife & I had seen him in Nottingham just a few days earlier. Take a bow DSRC18.
@mryoung61 Im not sure what Neil is using for amplification but it sounds like it clawed its way out of hell just for this concert. Before you think I am criticizing him anything else wouldnt work for either this song or Neil. He knows who is his and he doesnt want to be Mark Knopfler.
Like a fine wine, Neil Young got better with age. Great song.

I'm watching all your videos. You're a star. Reliving the moments almost a week later makes me think just how lucky we all were to be there. Even though my wife & I had seen him in Nottingham just a few days earlier. Take a bow DSRC18.

Outstanding am cam !!
Thank You for sharing, closest i will get to seeing Bernard Shakey & his friend on Day In The Life.
Was the audio from on board mics or separate source ?.
Only problem i have is i can't get smooth video playback in HD, even when fully loaded, might be my video card ?.

Mines the same way, I think it maybe the card. Not for sure but your not alone. Peace

Actually i find if i just load and play in HD it is fine, but even at 10 mbit download i have trouble keeping up.
It's when i pause the clip it mucks up for me.
Excellent am-cam, plus the uploader told me the audio is from on board mics !!.

Thank You

@mryoung61 Im not sure what Neil is using for amplification but it sounds like it clawed its way out of hell just for this concert. Before you think I am criticizing him anything else wouldnt work for either this song or Neil. He knows who is his and he doesnt want to be Mark Knopfler.
I love him.
