  • Awww! Birdies! You are so lucky! I need some advice on how to make a big bird cage for my budgies! It is only one foot wide and on foot tall please help it is horrible to have my birds in small cage! HELP!

  • @ScootKr3w ahhhhhh! it was signed into my brothers account not mine! so what ever i said on that comment is what i said here. sorry!

  • Oh man why Hippie Style? D:

  • Galvanized "after" weld wire is safe for birds. Regular Galvanized is OK for rabbit/chicken enclosures but very toxic, especially when little beaks for climbing & sometimes pick & sometimes swallow the zinc globs. It's the zinc that is especially toxic. Love your great cage ideas.

  • wow nice. i am still hoping my husbby will make one like than for me! i have 8 cockatiels and three lovebirds!

  • You have to watch using Wire Metal clothes hangers most are made of brass which is toxic to birds. Also all galvanized metal is toxic to birds- there is absolutely no way to remove the zinc from it. no matter what the internet says! you can not neutralize it with vinegar and water- and just because there is a coating over it (like with most aviary mesh) they'd chew through the mesh and get to the wire. it is safer to buy an appropriate bird cage for birds

  • hi i was wondering what the plastic cube was called and for what animals it is usually used for, haha and where i can get some? i would love to get some for my cockatiels... i absolutely love your set up.. i just built my cockatiels a 6 foot tall, 4 foot in length, and 3 foot wide cage for in the house.. and am needing some more stuff to put in it.. you can email me at xtaysea@live.ca looking forward to talking to you!! :)

  • @xtaysea Hi, if you are talking about the little plastic 'block house' on the bottom of the cage - it's actually sold in the small animal section of pet stores. They are called block houses and can be used for hamsters, guinea pigs, and, of course, as I did ----- a shelter for food so the poop don't fall in it.

  • i love that cage!! what kind of wood and wire did you use? and where did you buy it? i want to make something bigger and better for my lovie:) thanks

  • there tamed right?

  • @tambaz1 UHH - yep

  • Amazing!

  • i love this cage! what a clever design and snuggie! congrats! anyways what type of wood and mesh did you use??? please reply back! thank you

  • @makerpsychodude1000 The wood is pine and the mesh is what they call galvanized hardware cloth.

  • @dalsch thank you!

  • Where'd u get a snuggly?

  • How much was all the matieral to make the cage? Not including the toys, perches, etc.

  • @MrHunter9511 Don't know - hubby bought the material. Just measure how big you want your cage to be, go to Home Depot and calculate how much wood and hardware cloth you will need. the most expensive was the slide out drawer at the bottom. It's made of PVC- but we lucked out, Hubby's brother owns a shop and had that on hand. He just had to measure, cut, and glue it together with pvc glue. good luck

  • @dalsch Oh okay. thx

  • that is so awesome!

  • thats so cool

  • I TOTALLY LOVE IT!!!, I BET YOUR BIRDS LOVE IT!!!

  • That is an epic cage, lol.

  • You really did a great job. Thanks for all the ideas. I'm getting my Cockatiel in about 2 weeks or as soon as he gets weened.

  • AWWWW!!! I love how when you stuck your arm inside and were showing us some more stuff one yellow cuteness just climbed onto your arm. They certainly aren't shy fellows. Sooooo cute, I'm happy you're giving them such a nice mansion cage :D.

And I thought my Tiels cage was pimped out.

  • Great cage! Your cockatiels seem to love it! :) would you be able to tell me what specific color cupacake is? I loove your cockatiels! :D (I have two myself, just about to add another addition)

  • @Cockatielcutiepied I'm not positive, but I think he is a Pearl Cockatiel.

  • Some good ideas for toys for cockatiels but the cage itself is too full tiels like to fly freely and it's too packed but if they have free access to the cage and can get out to fly whenever they want it's not too bad. But it's too much like a hamster cage than a bird cage. Would be worried they would hurt themselves with so much stuff in it.

Spacing out branches etc. so they have to fly to them is better for them, it gives them space to stretch their wings.

  • and young african love bird isn't?

  • Are those baby cokatiels like 3 months right?

  • I noticed your bird are DEADSILENT! how did you train your birds to be this quiet!! relaxation:)

  • @Seffo Hmm - never noticed that - this was taken in the afternoon and they were all just relaxing I guess. No training, they just think they are at 'Club Med For Feathered Friends'.

  • looks like a hamsters cage ;]

  • @tywalker23 Wow, that would be a HU-MON-GUS hamster cage. But actually they would just chew the wood and escape

  • You should get a white bellied caique verey good birds

  • That is a really awesome cage, did anyone here that dog bark an the bird yell lol that didn't sound good

  • that play yard is totally cool. my cockatiel would love it!

  • There is far too much stuff in that cage. A Bird could get hurt with all that junk!

  • One thing missing that is most important, flying space. I got a 6'x7'x4' and they love the flying room

  • @jcalamayan Thanks - they actually have the whole screened in patio for that. All my birds have free roam during the day on the patio - they just get locked up in their cage at night for their safety.

  • Awsome cage, but I was also worried about the materials used. Im getting a cockatiel in two weeks and a Quaker baby early next year. What safe materials could we use if we wanted to build a similar cage for them?

  • @Struckbygold Thank you - however, we took the birds out of that because we heard that the GALVANIZED WIRE, which was used is not good for the birds. You should look for some sort of plastic coated wire. Any wood you get should be of course, untreated. Best of luck - post when you get it done, I'd love to see it.

  • is awesome ;)

  • cage is cool

  • what a great looking cage... lots to keep the birds busy.

  • A couple of things that Im curious about. Im new to the bird world, but I was JUST reading about how to build a cage and it said to NEVER use that type of hardware cloth/wire like you used. Its the same they use to build rabbit hutches etc. They say it is galvanized and can kill a bird if it chews on it....they also said to NEVER use wire metal hangers ( clothes hangers) for anything inside a birds cage as they are highly toxic. Please know I am by no means juding your cage or you, just Curious.

  • @lynncrum Yeah, I didn't know that either - too late - but all my birds survived and I got rid of that cage. Thanks for the input

  • hi. that cage is super cool. when you put the birds in there after finishing the cage were they scared to go in or they just went with hesatation.

  • @Lamsy123 R U Kidding - What was notto love??? LOL - they loved it. In the daytime, also, I just leave the door open when I'm home so they get to roam around the patio.

  • its so cool i wish i had one,

  • i just got done building a cage that looks like this exept its a little smaller than yours

  • THATS SOOOOO COOL!!!!!!! You should have tutorials on how to make your snuggies and some of your toys!!

  • @cak4606 Thanks, I may take you up on that. The 'snugglies' are so easy to make and the toys are too. Ahh yes, another request - just gotta jot that down and do my best at making a vid for ya'll.

  • there is no space for the birds to fly around

  • @ThePearlshine The door is open when I'm at home - all day - and they come out and have a blast all around the patio

  • @ThePearlshine Basically this cage was just for when I am not at home or at night. In the daytime, the door stays open. My birds are the happiest birds around.

  • i have a big question for your bird cage. i am planing on the week end to make a bird cage with my father but the problem is the wire with cage. the wire mesh they have at the store is galvanized wires/mesh. i know galvanized is toxic but i am not sure. i am looking for a solution for this problem. Could you help me

  • i would rather ur stuff than store baught stuff

  • Thanks, we both enjoy making stuff for the birds. I make the toys and hubby makes the 'habitats'.

  • Awesome home for you loving birds!

  • big cage!

  • cute!

  • I call my cat and my boyfriend Lovey. Ha :3

  • Cute - so when you're calling your cat - your boyfriend says: whaddaya want? . LOL

  • sorta but how do you take care of them on bird care and what food to feed them on what cage

  • what is the tempreture difference from inside to outside! im always afraid of my quaker getting sick? b.t.w nice setup! very creative.

  • wow great cage i wish i could make one like it

  • VERY nice cage and funny setup in it!

  • I just love the cage !! ,,,i want move my birds to another area and i was tryin to get ideas on how to set it up ...great job!!!:-)

  • hi i want a set up like your's how do your love birds go with the cockatiel i have cockatiels and wht is on the floor?

  • Thanks, the lovebird actually just picked one of the cockatiels to be her friend and they got along for quite awhile. However, when Lovey was on the tree playstand, she would run all the other cockatiels off it. She was such a bully - as most lovebirds can be to cockatiels.

After awhile,, as she got older, she started bullying the cockatiel she was friends with.

It's tricky - Lovebirds have to be watched with cockatiels - they tend to bite at their (cockatiels) toes.

  • Hi, I love the idea of those plastic cubes to put the food and water in!! What are they called? I can't find them anywhere? Or maybe what store did you get them from? I'm from Australia so hopefully someone has them in stock over here. But the name would be really helpful :) Thanks for your tips, Bec

  • wicked=]

  • hey. i think this cage is awesome! I love your birdies : )

  • It is big, great and really cosy :). But u could attach wheels to it so u can just move it inside instead of moving the birds to a diffrent cage since there are many parrots inside. JUST AN IDEA

  • Thanks, if you look closely- hubby had put wheels on it so we can roll it anywhere.

  • can they fly?

  • yes they can fly somewhat - they just can't gain height with their flight feathers clipped. But they have enough feathers to be able to glide down to the floor.

  • Awesome cage and setup! You and your husband did a very nice job, and I can tell your birds love it.

Out of curiosity, do you find Carefresh a good option for bird bedding? I use it for my guinea pigs, because it is very easy to spot clean, but it seems that would be much harder to do with all those birdseed hulls and messy poos.

  • I agree w/ SparkyMcBiff, the cage is much better than the overpriced store bought kind. thanks so much for uploading this video!! i've been searching all over for a vid like this on how to build a cage 4 my tiel.

  • Hey thanks for posting this video on your cool cage.

It's given me some ideas as well.

I just got a blue Quaker the other day (to keep my two tiels company) and I think I'll build an interesting cage as well. It looks so much more interactive and interesting than the usual store-bought cages.

    Nice work!

  • thanks - my husband is VERY CREATIVE - he built it - I just accessorized (sp) it. And of course, I'm always changing it around. Yes much more interesting for them, cheaper and easier to clean, etc.

Anyway, thanks for the comment on the vid--glad I could help - that was the idea - and also why I talked the whole way through it.

Hope you're not going to house your quaker with your tiels. Quakers can put a hurting on the tiels.

Post a vid when you get yours done.

  • the best cage i have ever seen.

  • thanks, my hubby DID do a very good job. I love it better than any store bought one.

  • thats awesome. I wish i had a bigger cage for my Eurpean Finches. Unfortunately my cat would try to find a way into the cage so they have to hang from the ceiling in just a regular bird cage. Really awesome though! You seem pretty crafty with all your animals cages. I liked to Guinea Pig cage and the rabbit cage too.

  • wow cool cage!

  • What a super cage, and great easy-clean ideas! Kudos you you! I'm impressed with your homemeade "boing", and all the other homemeade toys!

  • Thanks, love your vids, and got a lot of ideas. So I had to give you 'kudos' on the toys and such. You need to keep making more vids of what Quakers do and stuff.

I'm working on the 'flip'. Keiko is about 5 months old and he's getting it. Keiko is either incredibly smart or all Quakers learn very fast.

I've fallen in love with the breed.

  • It looks great, nice work

  • Thanks, hubby is very creative and loves to do stuff like this.
