I believe brazil use a e85 type fuel because they produce petroleum products too, yes the do run very clean but pure alcohol would be a hard change just read about methanol (u must add top end lube) vs ethanol( this has a lot less energy then methanol which is pure alcohol ) why we use gas or e-85 in every day cars
Cold weather starts suck on the car too, I have a friend who change his sons car to run on alcohol, its just a v6 and in the winter it take an hour to get the dam thing warm
@brandonsjsj r u sure you didnt have it mixed rich because this would burn any engine cold. Leaning off should increase engine temp - rich just to start. Some engine management systems dont like Alchohl even though the manufacturers say they are "ready for it".
And u can't use rubber lines because alcohol will eat though them so if ur unlucky and have rubber line going to ur fuel rails then ur f****d , and then u need fuel line have to be double the size. Even tho alcohol is only 1.59 a gallon u use 2 gallons of alcohol to one gallon of gas and it could sludge up. There no point
If fuel doesn't get burnt completely . And engines u have to pickle the engine, witch u have to run gas thought it to keep the alcohol from corroding the pistons. I forgot to run gas through it before winter shut down and it ate all 6 rings , I'm counting the two that hold the oiling ring on.
Pure Alcohlol is very corrosive, you use about a 2 gallons of alcohlol to 1 on gas, if u got blow by ur oil is done, u must mix top end lube kind of like u do for 2 stroke. It not a conspiracy its just not that good, I have a race car it runs on alcohol and the only good thing is it run cooler, and the fumes burn ur eyes I have work on it while running it sucks , e 85 is better. And u need a bigger fuel pump too , and a hotter spark plug, no ur cars don't last long, especially ur rings if
@brandonsjsj Why this is wrong is simple. One word. BRAZIL. They run cars on alchohol based fuel and it doesnt kill the cars or eat the fuel lines. BRAZIL went self sufficient and doesnt buy in forgeign petrol because they knew they were being ripped off. Their cars run better on it. Your experiences must have been with racing cars which were burning out - ie RACING, i guess.
There's more than a "movement" for alcohol. There are laws requiring it. A ten percent ethanol blend is the rule in the U.S. Cars are being modified (and built) to run on blends up to 85% too. Using organic waste won't provide that much feedstock, so you have to grow it. Sugarcane is the best feedstock, but in the U.S. corn is used which requires huge subsidies & has driven up the price of corn for food.
@bagintree I did hear about it. What I also heard was that Bush jr was blocking a lot of this and saying it was "untested technology" when its been in use in Brazil for 20 years. Yes its more underway now but being resisted and theres no reason why it should drive corn crops higher in price as corn was always considered a cheap crop which was overproduced anyhow. Theyll find any excuse to make things cost more.
@MrTpengineer Alchohol dragsters are using fuel in a way that superheats the engine and provides massive amounts of torque so gears simply grind metal. An efficient low powerted engine would not suffer in the same way.
i'm pretty sure alcohol shortens the life of your engine cuz gasoline is slightly oily so when it burns in the cylinder it leaves a slight oil residue in the cylinder wall...which would explain why diesel engines last longer cuz diesel is super oily and leaves behind more lubrication on the upper cylinder wall can someone plz correct me if im wrong?
@RoRogerRo The same argument would have also been true with the lead in petrol then. No lead - engines run fine, yes... So the same is true with Alcohol. The oil in the cars sump is fed into the barrels to provide the oil the car needs to work and petrol of any type thins out oil. I am fairly certain if what you were saying were true you wouldnt need engine oil. 2 strokes dont work the same way and have oil mixed with the petrol because theres not enough lubrication from the petrol .
The UK needs more people like you. I'll do some research myself as Im assuming my car would run a bit lumpy, but I'm considering brewing some ethanol and maybe putting in 1 part to 2 parts petrol in my tank. Any info would be greatly appreciated, keep up the fight.
I doubt any of this is true to be fair. Cars were invented in the USA after they discovered oil in 1850. The history of the internal combustion engine is written there and not in Europe. Petrol is more energy dense than Alcohol but alcohol burns hotter I believe.
It is more or less true. The Model T was designed to run on petrol and ethanol, but back in the day petrol made from oil was a lot cheaper, so everything went that way.
Same story for diesel. The original diesel engine was designed to run on peanut oil. But diesel was cheaper.
I havent done the research you have on alcohol but came to the same conclusion based on the reasoning and the people/corporations involved in cannabis prohibition. hemp is another source of clean fuel.

And that a lie gas contains more power then alcohol ur power gains are from how cool the cars run. And it
very very hard to get a car on alcohol to warm up in cold weather.

Alcohol = engine damage and wear, that's why Alcohol dragsters need to be rebuilt after every run. That's why we don't use it often.

Hemp has FOUR TIMES more cellulose to make ethanol than corn, prohibition is still here.
