  • when the father says he cant help his son the horse aka the mother takes him into the sea ........to make him help him she wants him to save his son which ultimately makes him save himself ............ deep ......lovely film beautiful ending

  • another name for tir a nog, is kelpie, might it not be. the irish legend is similar. i've read the black stalllion and the shape shifter aka keltie and the stories are familiar.

  • sorry me again. if the horse was the mother why would she ride him into the sea?

  • I think there it's more the boy who refuse to get off the horse and let her (the horse/his mum) go.

you can also see that scene as a symbol of the fact he needs his father to be there, to help him.

they both need to move on. and the boy won't if his father don't either.

    hope it helps...

  • so that he could see his mother

  • as lauren asked below, was the horse the mother and was she supposed to draw the father and the boys closer?

  • it's up to each one to decide what you want to see in that film. if you see the horse as the spirit of the mother, I think you can say that yes.

but you can also view the horse as a normal horse. then it's just the events that draw them closer and help them stop mourning their wife/mother.

  • I love this film, used to watch it everyday when i was younger, always made me cry :(

  • no its about an old irish legend called tir na nog which means the land of eternal youth and its worth looking up

  • the ending always makes me cry

i saw this when i was a little girl

    :,)

  • the blue sea and the white horse by patrick doyle

  • so was the horse really his mother?

  • wee Fitzgerald is from Greystones in Wicklow.

  • i been lookin for THAT song in begining and end, since i was same age as the boys..someone knows the songs name??

  • The Blue Sea and the White Horse is the name of the song i believe, but if you google Patrick Doyle Into the West Soundtrack and you go down to the SoundtrackNet link you can listen to clips from all the songs =D

  • When I was a boy the gypsies (or tinkers as many would call them) would camp in a lay-by just down from our house. They were the old generation with the colourful wagons and horses and witches pot on the fire. As an adult I respect their stories and lifestyle choice and I'll always remember the men hunkering down by the fire and telling stories. That tradition has practically disappeared which is a shame. Great film with some authentic detail, thanks for posting.
