yes this game is based on real events just like apollo 18 is but hte monsters wernt created this way in dead space there is a vile with some type of alien virus in it and there is a group of those soldiers or watever you want to call them and there leader makes them take it and it turns them into these monsters and the huge boss thing at the end of the game yah that is the leader he became HUGE D:

What happened to subtlety in horror? This isn't frightening, just startling. Is it true horror when your kid brother hides around the corner to jump out and say "boo"?

Also, they overdid it with the gore. Gore like that works best when it is slow and built up, not when you're slapped in the face with 200 pounds of morphed meat. If you want real terror, go play Silent Hill 2 or Amnesia: Dark Descent.

The loud noises and flashing images aren't what make the actual game play scarey, they actually went through the trouble to make the atmosphere tense and nerve-racking. You spend a lot of time wondering what will happen next. Isaac (main character) never speaks which allows you to project more of yourself on him. In Dead Space 2 on the other hand, has little atmosphere and is dependent on the obligatory loud noises and flashing images jumping out into your face to "scare" you.
