Technically it's not sharing, most people take use P2P to get their favourite music, yet they never seem to give them back. Which is what sharing is you take or borrow then you hand the item back to the owner or source.

File sharing is NO more of a problem than mix-tapes, mix CDs, etc. The artists make their money at concerts anyway. They need to realize that file sharing gets their actual art into the hands of MILLIONS more than CD sales. In turn - we pay the $75 per ticket when they are playing slose to us. When I hear 50 has to sell ONE of his houses to pay the bills, then I'll say they aren't making money. File sharing actually works BETTER then radio.

Artists don't make near the money they used to. Concert sales don't even compare to what an artist used to make of record sales.

Ever since P2P came along. Music quality has gone to shit. Especially Pop/Rock. Artists are making songs faster and faster to make more money faster. While songs they made 5 months ago are forgotten. Ex: Brittney spears "Hit me baby one more time" What happened to the good old days when people made music FOR the music and not the money. Those type of songs are NEVER forgotten.

A real scenario:

I found a cool band on the net, downloaded their album, recommended it to friends. They liked it, recommended it further and the next time I heard a song of that group was in a club, and some guy comes up and asks "Hey you heard about that band?"

The band doesn't sell CD's in stores here, but I know of 3 people who ordered their stuff online.

For those of you saying that p2p is strictly about "freedom" or "liberty" have you considered how the system works in a consumer based society/economy? Now that digital files are becoming a preferred media chose for music listeners, it begs the question, would you want your creative expressions reproduced with pristine quality and distributed among thousands of people? As an artist I would be upset if technology was abused to distribute perfect reproductions of my artwork. Same concept.

GigaTribe is probably the best app as far as file sharing goes. You can let friends download directly from your harddrive, and all exchanges are encrypted...great way to exchange entire folders of files with your friends and no size limits.

love the tenenbaulms music man :) I personally have no problem with filesharing and a lot of artists don't either. Artists don't make the bulk of their revenue solely on record sales in fact only 1% generally, most of their income come from concerts and merch.
