As a semi-professional Bassist of 20+ years who, with enough money and time would love to play Electric Upright Bass but with the above plus the fact that I'm a Bassist With A Disability likely can't *physically* be able to play an EUB, the Kala U-Bass/S-U-B U-Bass is the next best thing in my case. With some EQ it can ape the tone of an upright remarkably well and the short scale length, very green rechargeable electronics system & sturdy soft case has jumped to the top of my "Want List!"

@bluesdog88 no way. the bridge and tuning pegs probably couldnt stand the tension. it was made for rubber strings. plus it would probably sound like garbage if it did work anyway.

Sorry too long winded. The frets are very unforgiving without impeccable technique. I put my videos up because i want to spread the word that these can sound great and are totally viable in many situations if you play it right. Just my opinion.

Now being the proud owner of a fretless hollow body and now a solidbody fretted and having used them on dozens of gigs i need to chime in. You are all correct that on youtube these do not generally sound good. I mean no offense to any of the wonderful people demoing these on youtube for the rest of us who can't put hands on.
