ah! so this is where that song came from. i'm surprised how a romantic instrumental can be a main theme for vignettes of really disturbing images. i guess this is where cannibal holocaust got the whole ironic soundtrack thing.
I think this is from the Models in Blue sequence in the movie. I like the Lifesavers Girl march and the Sailors and Girls songs from the film very much, also. Gratia! This is one of the best score Riz Ortolani did. He did some gangster movies music. Gangster movies in English but shot in Italy. Gangster money made them.
Altough this score is pretty sweet and romantic, it makes me always scared. There was a day when Italy ruled the World in music and cinema. Now everything sucks here.
@GaetanoCozza Count your blessings. Not everything sucks. Not the wine or the women or the unfinished marbles of Michelangelo in the Academy in Florence. Bellisima Here in the USA we live under the rule of corporations and their tasteless corporate foods, media and lifeless imaginations. Living well is your best revenge so drink the wine, make love to the women and remember the spirit of genius that can enchant and inspire any of us.
This is a movie everyone should see once in their lifetime, then never see again. It's the closest thing you'll ever experience to seeing humanity the way aliens visiting from outer space would.
I was 20 in 1962, just out of the army, and I remember seeing this movie and wondering what life was going to be like for me and my generation. Well, it wasn't a "dog's world," but there was (and still is) plenty of suffering to go around. This beautiful music, however, helps to make life seem a heck of a lot better.
1962, I was 22 and in love! This score haunts my memory like no other. The scene where the natives wait [in vain] for the "magic" of flight and plaintive music that accompanies the scene still are part of my imagination. Thanks for posting this.
@pikiwiki As recall, they were waiting for the technology [and the power] which they saw others enjoying but was somehow denied to them. Very moving in the context as presented with that marvelous score to punctuate the mood and feeling. Have you seen the film? If not, run...don't walk to rent it. Flawed but grand nonetheless.

riz must have been competing with max steiner ("theme from 'a summer place'") to see who could come up with the most beautiful melody.

@Cupcakealex thanks for your reply. is this the movie where they eat the monkey's brains?

@pikiwiki No, that was Faces of Death, a more brutal Mondo Cane ripoff. There are some violent scenes in this movie, though, so be careful.
