  • the who ceased 30 years ago

  • the who ceased 30 years ago

  • Man whats up with all this Rush hate, both bands are great and desrve all the respect they can get, thank god we actully have some good music in our world and its not all this modern pre programed garbage

  • Why do two top comments have to be hate? Aren't we all rockers? The mate with 26 thumbs up hasn't even heard Rush. Mates, I love the Who as much as you all and I just listened to Quadrophenia and thought it was brilliant. I also think Rush is a good band who took a lot of influence from the Sherperd's Bush gang and used it wisely. One day, I feel like listening to one, and some days the other. Did some Rush fan come in here and diss the Who or something? Let's all chill and enjoy these legends.

  • @Astrosimi hahahah both those comments are from me xD and yeah somebody did come in and diss the who, and the argument is still popping up today. funny thing is that i do kinda like rush now, but back then (2 years ago) i was pissed off about the rush comment so i didnt want to listen to them haha

  • In the studio version he says I look pretty young, but in this and Live at Leeds he says I look bloody young. Why?

This and Live at Leeds were the best performances of this song and this song is one of The Who's best.

  • @aharvx Too dirty a word for the radio in those days, young 'un.

  • Every time I listen to this song, I think tears will fall from my eyes. It's such a beautiful sad song, and I've lived a similar situation to the guy in the song.

  • "I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth" and "substitute you for my mom, atleast I'll get my washing done" are my all time favorite lines in ANY Who song.

  • I love Rush and The Who!!!!

  • rush are fuckin shit.i am ashamed of these cunts connecting in anyway with the who

  • @stankler Rush rock, so do The Who. But theyre very different. Im not sure why everyone is debating this.

  • @stankler you are as annoying as Geddy's voice. And Geddy hisself would shriek in that tinney tone that you are quite all wet. Oh--And I hate you. And did your Mum. After I choked your Dad out. For impregnating said Mum with.........you. Check please!

  • one time i decated this song to my ex gf and she heard it and then she slap me.. fail

  • Daltry was the original rock god - saw him last year, looking good for a geriatric

  • @colomtski ultimatly it was jim morrison who carries that status.morrison lived it to the hilt, until he dropped, daltry is godlike but he always looks too fresh and in fine shape to carry the rock god plaquard, plus jim will forever be twenty something-the who proceeded the doors this night at the iow and jim and roger both shared southern comfort around a bonfire,legendary...

  • Punk rock at it's best.

  • WTF! Where is John??? I love him with the skeleton suit!!!

  • @96therightprofile Back then science didn't know of the existence of bassists. Not until the discovery of Bootsy Collins in the 70's.

  • Rush started out as a band covering, among others, The Who. Rush has been a great band for most of their long career, but obviously they stand on the shoulders of The Who. Caress of Steel, 2112 and the other "epic" Rush albums could not have existed without Tommy. Can't we all just get along?

  • @svladcjelli42 Have tried to get into Rush but find their music very ordinary. Can see why they didnt achieve worldwide fame like The Who.

  • @Abgulu Wait a sec, would not a band want to sell out. And also, just because two mebers are dead doesn't make them "washed up" just really unlucky.

  • Wow, so good.

  • @Abgulu

since when is doing a superbowl performance considered selling out?

  • Damn that good. I've never heard it live. This is why I love The Who. Every singer, band, or group are recording artists. But very, very few cross into the region of being a live band. The Who were always better live than the original album cut.

  • most girls at the age of 17 these days have a crush on jonas brothers or people like that, but i have the BIGGEST thing for Keith Moon.

  • WHY THE HELL ARE PEOPLE COMPARING THE WHO TO RUSH?????

They are two totaly AWSOME bands and are very different and shouldnt be compared.

I personaly love both The Who and Rush FOR TOTALY DIFFERENT REASONS!!!

    Why must we compare???

  • @mrtamberineman123 i was just thinking the same exact thing! perfect comment!

  • i refuse to erase this movie from my dvr. I love it so much.

  • the who is just memorable... unique... as long as a inspiration to many rock, hard rock, glam rock and even heavy metal band... this song is a extraordinary one and surely inspired many punk rock artists... the who is just amazing

  • I love Rush ..But The Who Im in Love with

  • awesome, i feel exactly the same way :)

  • ur retarted so ur saying the car they piulled out of the pool at a holliday inn was set there and said that keith drove it in there i dnt think so, he was crazy, he would of lived longer if he would of drank and did drugs

  • Huh?

  • Keith Moon died of an overdose of 32 Clomethiazole which he was prescribed to fight his addiction to alcohol, after spending several stints in a psychiatric hospital for detoxification.

But I guess you'd say that too was all just a publicity stunt.

  • with not a sick bucket/seizure in sight.. Alcoholism is not glamorous..AND NO...You cannot do a damn thing, yet alone perform/tour if u were drinking/taking drugs all day. Music may well be creative, but even creative jobs require faculties and health. This is why i think Townshend is telling lies about Moon at this concert. What galls me is, Who music requires a fanbase's cynical intellect to appreciate the lyrics, but this cynicism is supposed to vanish in the face of a silly "star system" .

  • You are quite CLUELESS. You evidently have never seen photos of Clapton wasted on heroin before? He looked like he had one foot in the grave. You never saw late photos of Jim Morrison fat and bloated? I suppose Elvis was slim and trim nearing the end of his career too?

    Please just shut up....

  • These 60s bands were professional musicians sponsored by multi-billionaires...they spent most of their time in either studio or auditoriams reheasrsing performances so they went like clockwork, appearances of hitches were part of the carefully cultivated image...u dont really think these people just rolled out of bed at midday, smoked spliffs, drank jack daniels put on a pair of tatty jeans and jumped on the stage and just banged out whatever came into ther head do u?

  • I know for a fact that Pete spend countless hours writing and arranging. So what? The excesses that many bands STILL were engaged in is a matter of the factual record.

  • Total schtick and everybody falls for it....i mean : "Is there a drummer in the house" instead of a doctor...really.

Also, this nonsense about the Stones and Eric Clapton drinking all day and night taking drugs all year long and yet still producing top selling albums....and the question is, if they drank so much and took drugs so many drugs, how come they dont have bad health now when theyre in their 70s?? (and myths about overdoses dont count)

  • Yeah.....and it was complete schtick when Keith accidentally killed his driver and had to go to trial for it...right?

I suppose Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix deaths were from congenital heart defects too.

    You're dreaming pal.

  • Clapton and The Stones are in their 70's? Since when?

  • i think townsend always saying this thing about keith moon being wasted all the time is a bit of a publicity myth. He just used to have fun with it thats all, unlike daltry and certainly pete who were too dour. hes not out of time...u cant play such a physical instrument if your wasted, its impossible.

  • Ummmmm.....Keith once took horse tranquilizers before a show and promptly passed-out on his drum kit.

The band had to ask if there were any drummers in the audience. One stepped-up and they finished the show with just some dude from the crowd.

  • @MoonAharshMistress I read a book about Moon-Moon: The Life and Death of a Rock Legend. You should read it, the guy was a mess even sober.

  • i have the reissue of that guitar and its great

  • The Who is the greatest RocknRoll band ever...

  • lol its roger daltrey not robert

  • Are you high??? Probably not enough, because the Who are without a doubt in anyone's mind the Number one live band in the history of this thing we call rock n roll. The Isle of Wight concert in '70 is regarded as pure genius.

Pull your head out of your ass....

  • pure genius? so you call the out-of-key, unsyncipated vocals genius? along with the unintentional constant changing time signatures and looseness of the band? If you want to hear some genius go listen to Rush: Exit Stage Left or Led Zeppelin: 1973 Madison Square Garden performance. Led Zeppelin and Rush kicks the Who's ass sooooo hard in soooo many ways.

    CathyJohn747, you are so wrong.

  • Zeppelin are my favorite band of all-time, and being form Canada I know the power of Rush and their 33 albums..hell I've seen Rush live and they are awesome...

But mark my words and I am sure anyone else who would like to ring in can't deny; The Who are the greatest live act and a musical force that can match and exceed any act of day or of yesterday.

Remember, watching a clip on You Tube can sometimes give the illusion of a bad performance due to technical issues.

    4 musical geniuses!!!

  • That's an interesting view--and you are entitled to it--However..........Live at Leeds is almost universally proclaimed the best live recording of electric Rock and Roll in the history of such.....Hmmmm.

  • haha. thank you very much ttraynor1. I respect mature response. props to you. :) but seriously, check out Exit Stage Left by Rush. I'm sure a fan of Isle of Wright would love it.

  • The "looseness" you referred to was a trademark of The Who. Pete said once that Isle of Wight was not one of their best performances primarily because Kieth was completely wasted.

But there's a very good reason why The Who are considered a "LEGENDARY" live band while Rush will always be just a good live band.

  • None are so blind as those who refuse to see.

  • right this is not the who greatest live operformance, but overall they are the BEST live band!

  • @ Knightsmenu

I wouldn't care that you don't agree with the rest of the world about The Who being the best live band ever (I stubbornly maintain that they are), but I get the strange feeling you have no idea what you're talking about.

First of all, his name is ROGER DALTREY, not Robert Daulltry.

Second, "unsyncipated vocals"? They're not supposed to be syncopated, and they're not out of time with the music if that's what you meant.

But hey, everyone's entitled to their opinions and wrong-ness...

  • i agree... Live at Leeds is undoutably the best live album... ever!

  • What?! Listen to Live at Leeds, I guarantee by about the third song (if your head hasn't exploded) you will realize The Who was the greatest live rock band of all time.

  • im 15 and i grew up with all kinds of music from this general era, never heard a rush song, frankly, dont want to, and blow it out ur ass and open your eyes. god smites those who dis The Who

  • anyone who's got an ounce of their sanity left knows the Who destroys rush any day

  • @mullinator7 Rush would agree. They love and respect The Who. It's just a silly comparison.

  • @bewildebeest so there, this argument thats been going on for over a year is finally over

  • @mullinator7 -2lbs and am well aware.

  • @mullinator7 I wouldn't say that, the who are absolutely amazing, but not as good as Rush, the who beats 80's rush, but not 70's rush. By the way, rush still writes music today, not alot of bands still do that. Think before you post

  • @mullinator7 And anyone with an ounce of their sanity would know that the comment you posted is complete bullshit, because unlike you, I listen to both, I love the who, but for me, rush takes it to a whole new level. So get your head out of your ass and realize that the who is not the only exceptional rock band, there are others ie: Beatles, rolling stones, zepplin, floyd, RUSH(yes they're in there), and tonnes of other bands. I don't think you realize you are an ignorant bastard

  • every band back in the day was great

  • @mullinator7 When I was 15 I knew everything too.

  • @svladcjelli42 im 16 now so i know everything and a little bit more too

  • @mullinator7 If you've never heard a rush song, then how do you know if the who destroys rush you dumbass, to make a proper opinion, you have to see things from both perspectives, not just post a comment that's purely based on your opinions and being unrealistic. This once again proves my point that you are just one ignorant prick

  • @mullinator7 One more thing. God doesn't smite those who dis the who, assholes like you smite them.

  • @163388416 hell yes i do

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PETE!

  • I love the era when John used Fender Precision basses. His sound was so ballsy.

  • Why didnt they include this on the dvd?

  • they did

  • they didnt on the one i bought

  • the bastards!

  • The Who mind blowing as usual.... Miss you John always the best Bass Player in the world. The Who rock.

  • =( what about Keith

  • i didn't know they played more songs than those on the dvd

  • This and Naked Eye were on only some versions of the DVD as an "extra" . Not sure if it is the earlier or later version???

  • this is great thanks so much!!!!

  • great vid
