Man whats up with all this Rush hate, both bands are great and desrve all the respect they can get, thank god we actully have some good music in our world and its not all this modern pre programed garbage
Why do two top comments have to be hate? Aren't we all rockers? The mate with 26 thumbs up hasn't even heard Rush. Mates, I love the Who as much as you all and I just listened to Quadrophenia and thought it was brilliant. I also think Rush is a good band who took a lot of influence from the Sherperd's Bush gang and used it wisely. One day, I feel like listening to one, and some days the other. Did some Rush fan come in here and diss the Who or something? Let's all chill and enjoy these legends.
@Astrosimi hahahah both those comments are from me xD and yeah somebody did come in and diss the who, and the argument is still popping up today. funny thing is that i do kinda like rush now, but back then (2 years ago) i was pissed off about the rush comment so i didnt want to listen to them haha
Every time I listen to this song, I think tears will fall from my eyes. It's such a beautiful sad song, and I've lived a similar situation to the guy in the song.
"I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth" and "substitute you for my mom, atleast I'll get my washing done" are my all time favorite lines in ANY Who song.
@stankler you are as annoying as Geddy's voice. And Geddy hisself would shriek in that tinney tone that you are quite all wet. Oh--And I hate you. And did your Mum. After I choked your Dad out. For impregnating said Mum with.........you. Check please!
95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die
@colomtski ultimatly it was jim morrison who carries that status.morrison lived it to the hilt, until he dropped, daltry is godlike but he always looks too fresh and in fine shape to carry the rock god plaquard, plus jim will forever be twenty something-the who proceeded the doors this night at the iow and jim and roger both shared southern comfort around a bonfire,legendary...
Rush started out as a band covering, among others, The Who. Rush has been a great band for most of their long career, but obviously they stand on the shoulders of The Who. Caress of Steel, 2112 and the other "epic" Rush albums could not have existed without Tommy. Can't we all just get along?
Damn that good. I've never heard it live. This is why I love The Who. Every singer, band, or group are recording artists. But very, very few cross into the region of being a live band. The Who were always better live than the original album cut.
the who is just memorable... unique... as long as a inspiration to many rock, hard rock, glam rock and even heavy metal band... this song is a extraordinary one and surely inspired many punk rock artists... the who is just amazing
ur retarted so ur saying the car they piulled out of the pool at a holliday inn was set there and said that keith drove it in there i dnt think so, he was crazy, he would of lived longer if he would of drank and did drugs
Keith Moon died of an overdose of 32 Clomethiazole which he was prescribed to fight his addiction to alcohol, after spending several stints in a psychiatric hospital for detoxification.
But I guess you'd say that too was all just a publicity stunt.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Look, I don't know Moons medical history, ok? His overdose, as u describe, happend a long time after this concert. All, Im saying, you just get tired of hearing the same old cliches..i read Patti Boyds autobiography the other day and she said her and Eric Clapton would drink heavily, whisky and wine all day ..every day.. not withsatnding all the so-called drug taking...yet u look at the photos and theres no swollen face, bloated bodies...they look bright eyes, well-dressed,enjoying their work..
with not a sick bucket/seizure in sight.. Alcoholism is not glamorous..AND NO...You cannot do a damn thing, yet alone perform/tour if u were drinking/taking drugs all day. Music may well be creative, but even creative jobs require faculties and health. This is why i think Townshend is telling lies about Moon at this concert. What galls me is, Who music requires a fanbase's cynical intellect to appreciate the lyrics, but this cynicism is supposed to vanish in the face of a silly "star system" .
You are quite CLUELESS. You evidently have never seen photos of Clapton wasted on heroin before? He looked like he had one foot in the grave. You never saw late photos of Jim Morrison fat and bloated? I suppose Elvis was slim and trim nearing the end of his career too?
These 60s bands were professional musicians sponsored by multi-billionaires...they spent most of their time in either studio or auditoriams reheasrsing performances so they went like clockwork, appearances of hitches were part of the carefully cultivated image...u dont really think these people just rolled out of bed at midday, smoked spliffs, drank jack daniels put on a pair of tatty jeans and jumped on the stage and just banged out whatever came into ther head do u?
I know for a fact that Pete spend countless hours writing and arranging. So what? The excesses that many bands STILL were engaged in is a matter of the factual record.
Total schtick and everybody falls for it....i mean : "Is there a drummer in the house" instead of a doctor...really.
Also, this nonsense about the Stones and Eric Clapton drinking all day and night taking drugs all year long and yet still producing top selling albums....and the question is, if they drank so much and took drugs so many drugs, how come they dont have bad health now when theyre in their 70s?? (and myths about overdoses dont count)
i think townsend always saying this thing about keith moon being wasted all the time is a bit of a publicity myth. He just used to have fun with it thats all, unlike daltry and certainly pete who were too dour. hes not out of time...u cant play such a physical instrument if your wasted, its impossible.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
god, i love the who, but i mean honestly,,, they aren't that great live. probably mostly robert daulltry since he was singing out of key and ahead of the music. john entwistle kicks ass as always.
Are you high??? Probably not enough, because the Who are without a doubt in anyone's mind the Number one live band in the history of this thing we call rock n roll. The Isle of Wight concert in '70 is regarded as pure genius.
pure genius? so you call the out-of-key, unsyncipated vocals genius? along with the unintentional constant changing time signatures and looseness of the band? If you want to hear some genius go listen to Rush: Exit Stage Left or Led Zeppelin: 1973 Madison Square Garden performance. Led Zeppelin and Rush kicks the Who's ass sooooo hard in soooo many ways.
Zeppelin are my favorite band of all-time, and being form Canada I know the power of Rush and their 33 albums..hell I've seen Rush live and they are awesome...
But mark my words and I am sure anyone else who would like to ring in can't deny; The Who are the greatest live act and a musical force that can match and exceed any act of day or of yesterday.
Remember, watching a clip on You Tube can sometimes give the illusion of a bad performance due to technical issues.
That's an interesting view--and you are entitled to it--However..........Live at Leeds is almost universally proclaimed the best live recording of electric Rock and Roll in the history of such.....Hmmmm.
haha. thank you very much ttraynor1. I respect mature response. props to you. :) but seriously, check out Exit Stage Left by Rush. I'm sure a fan of Isle of Wright would love it.
The "looseness" you referred to was a trademark of The Who. Pete said once that Isle of Wight was not one of their best performances primarily because Kieth was completely wasted.
But there's a very good reason why The Who are considered a "LEGENDARY" live band while Rush will always be just a good live band.
I wouldn't care that you don't agree with the rest of the world about The Who being the best live band ever (I stubbornly maintain that they are), but I get the strange feeling you have no idea what you're talking about.
First of all, his name is ROGER DALTREY, not Robert Daulltry.
Second, "unsyncipated vocals"? They're not supposed to be syncopated, and they're not out of time with the music if that's what you meant.
But hey, everyone's entitled to their opinions and wrong-ness...
What?! Listen to Live at Leeds, I guarantee by about the third song (if your head hasn't exploded) you will realize The Who was the greatest live rock band of all time.
