As an Australian steeped in Bushranging history - the film is not great. I advise people to read all the books they can to get the broadest view of Kelly.
one of the worst makes of this " legend " ledger was dreadful, really read the character of kelly badly, or do we blame the director or writers. whatever as bad as jagger was in the part, this effort was bad
When he was younger my dad was talking with his dads friend in the old Melbourne gaol/jail and handled this old armour sitting on the table nearby with the scraps, it was Ned's.
Funny how people seem to think that Kelly and his family were somehow persecuted by the Anglo- Australians, and that he became some kind of "freedom fighter" for Irish Aussies.
These people fail to realise that the police who gave him and his family/gang a hard time were Irish-aussies themselves (mostly).
The Irish and Americans will do anything to convince themselves that the Enlgish are always the bad guys.
BTW ... this film is very historicaly inaccurate. Just another Hollywood fiction.
Saw this movie the other day and have to say Ledger did a good job. I don't know how well this movie is with actual history (admittedly I knew little about Kelly before the film), but I can say I was astounded that Kelly in real life actual had bullet-proof armor and used it.
oh the old australian gangster ned kelly but some of the movie are lies when he fight he always always wears his armour its a metal body kit and his beard was longer than that and he was a killer he kills any one
we respect him because he is ned kelly....some people belive he was an outlaw others belive he was a good man, a hero....he was both a criminal and a hro
@FinesseShot wearing a badge, or serving in the army etc, doesn't make you a decent human being. History has shown us time and time again that, no matter what the person's proffession (policeman, solider, politician etc), some people just need killing. People are too quick to judge by profession, especially when it comes to soldiers, but even they can be racist murderers. These policemen used a badge to get away with murder, theft, and racism. They were expendable lives
Policemen aren't gods. They are human, just like people in any other profession. And might I add, he was driven to killing them - they hounded him relentlessly, even while he was busy minding his own business as a kid.
While the film isent the greatest film ive seen, it did have some great scenes, and I almost cried when that dying police officer said "I got a wife and 2 children! Who's gonna look after them!" And I hardly ever cry in movies :(
Ned Kelly was a complete legend, his life showed just how fucked and racist Australia was and still kind of is. When he was hanged, his rumoured last words were "Such is life..." Agreed.
before men could march for justice, before they could appeal to courts, there were men who picked up a gun to fight and diie for beliefs and convictions. True definition of a man
@Mattube1983 That would be awesome. But the Kelly story would probably seem very small to all the big name company's. cool idea though... I would definitely buy that. I want a pirate type rock star game like rdr and gta
@TheTigersharkdan Dunno the whole story, I've asked my mum a million times and never understand it. It has a major part to do with my grandma though. So I think he's a cousin or something.
@totallytgw ok dude, a little historical education is in order. At that time what we know as the "Australian" accent hadnt evolved. People often spoke in an accent like those they were around which, In Kelly's case, was his father and mother who were Irish. He spoke with an Irish accent my man.

That's what I mean-they can't make movie about Ned Kelly without that helmet. It's part of his appearance, same as his last quote which proved what a man he was just few seconds before being hanged-"Such is life".
Whoever signed off on this truly needs the devil to bite his arse. What a load of shit! To wait so long to see a modern Kelly film and to be presented with this crap is just an injustice to the truth...yes, the truth has been forced to bend over and take it in the arse big time. Why did the Kelly story suffer for Hollywood? The Kelly story needed nothing added or changed. I would like to say the actors did a good job. But to me the story is just a 'Cock & Bull yarn'!

ohk so it may not be acurate but really what movie is ever acurate (sorry for bad spelling). but apart from that it dosn't look to bad, and it has good actors in it to. it's a movie people not a documentry, it's ment to be entertaining not factual lol
@KiaElement If you're aware your spelling is bad, then instead of wasting your time writing an apology for it, get on Google and check the bloody words! You're on the internet! Use it! >:O
they didn't. Absolutely everything in the story actually happened. Most of the dialogue was taken from letters, journal entries and recordings of what was said at the time.
Have you ever even seen the film? The use of Ned Kelly's actual words make it a truly beautiful thing. It's not hollywood-ised at all. Even what he said in the bank and the letter was actually written. It's one of the most famous letters in history ..

@boundryrider It is accurate accept for the portrayal of Ned and his crew with females. There is no historical evidence that they had female partners and some believe they were gay. Regardless, great movie.
@lax4ever3000 Having spent nearly 40 years researching the subject, i can say with confidence that this movie is far from accurate. As for your Gay comment, it is well documented that Joe Byrne had many girlfriends and often went to town to visit them whilst they were on the run. There is evidence that Ned Kelly was romantically linked to his cousin Cath. Lloyd, I have never seen any Gay comments before this. You may find this movie entertaining, but accurate it is not.
Yeah...except the battle of Glenrowan was a crock of shit the way they depicted it as a blood bath, in fact only one cop was injured and it was very slight. No one has ever said Kelly spoke with an Irish accent. In the movie he is scruffy but people always commented he was well dressed whenever possible. "Julia" never existed and the gang NEVER drank the blood of their horses like savages. Hollywood buggered up a true story which is better then this garbage.
This movie is brilliant. First of all, it includes great storyline and many genres - action, adventure, biography, history, crime and western. Next - amazing cast, especially fantastic Heath Ledger. He was so talented actor
And the country of the United States belongs to the people but also belonged to my Country blood Irish, wasn't it our Irish blood that stood for Presidency John F. Kennedy. and rained to glory and wasn't he loved by the people just like Ned Kelly these where men real men. fighting for justice and their beliefs just like mine my Eire her 32 , good up load of Ned Kelly my friend. just felt my views to blood Eire
The man had an Irish accent, grew up with people who had Irish accents, had an Irish upbringing and parents, and was even convicted by an Irish judge!
@AidanMusik True, but it still doesn't change the fact that he WAS born in Australia and never went to Ireland as Zachamp said. So technically, he wasn't Irish.
@AidanMusik His dad died when he was young and his mothers family had been settled in Australia for a long time. My mothers parents were born in Ireland and they lived in Mt Isa, with a large Irish population and she doesn't and neither do her siblings have a detectable Irish accent like their parents. There were no more Irish settled in Victoria then any other group.
@Zachmp700 i was born in england to irish parents, never went to ireland. i had a strong irish accent up until the age of 12, about the time i went to secondary school. your accent is shaped by your surroundings, not your place of birth.
frobinhood everyone has an opinion and mine is that your the fucking moron besides the mick jagger one is the nowhere near the true story the only one that explain the whole story is the last outlaw starring john jarret as Ned watch that one before u start callin people morons
its rumoured ned actually didnt get hanged his brother jim who had days to live because of cancer aparently swapped with him when ned got out of the hotel because you think about it ned got out he could of slipped away but he went back so if he swapped with jim then jim gets himself caught everyone thinks ned is dead and ned can live happily ever after
"I've never shot a man.... but if I do, so help me god!!!...... YOU'LL BE THE FIRST!!!" - love that bit - shame it was'nt in the film though. Heath Ledger was at his finest in this film, The Patriot, A Knight's Tale, Brokeback Mountain and of course The Dark Knight. R.I.P Heath.
TO ALL HEATH LEDGER FANS! This was without a doubt one of Heaths best performances along with Brokeback, Monsters Ball and of course the Dark Knight. A must watch of Ledger fans.
As an Australian steeped in Bushranging history - the film is not great. I advise people to read all the books they can to get the broadest view of Kelly.

@Zachmp700
The man had an Irish accent, grew up with people who had Irish accents, had an Irish upbringing and parents, and was even convicted by an Irish judge!
AidanMusik 1 year ago
@AidanMusik True, but it still doesn't change the fact that he WAS born in Australia and never went to Ireland as Zachamp said. So technically, he wasn't Irish.

@toddles9
he was both
AidanMusik 1 year ago
@AidanMusik His dad died when he was young and his mothers family had been settled in Australia for a long time. My mothers parents were born in Ireland and they lived in Mt Isa, with a large Irish population and she doesn't and neither do her siblings have a detectable Irish accent like their parents. There were no more Irish settled in Victoria then any other group.

@Zachmp700 hes still more irish than austrailian..

@Zachmp700 i was born in england to irish parents, never went to ireland. i had a strong irish accent up until the age of 12, about the time i went to secondary school. your accent is shaped by your surroundings, not your place of birth.

@Zachmp700 his blood line was 100% Irish.

its rumoured ned actually didnt get hanged his brother jim who had days to live because of cancer aparently swapped with him when ned got out of the hotel because you think about it ned got out he could of slipped away but he went back so if he swapped with jim then jim gets himself caught everyone thinks ned is dead and ned can live happily ever after

I never knew about this rumor. and I've never heard of The Last Outlaw, but I like the Mick Jagger version
