my 30-06 savage 116 dont kick that bad. Honestly ive never had anything kick as hard as a magnum 12 gauge load. Even some 20 gauge rounds are pretty stout. Ive even shot a 375 H&H and still the shotguns kick harder to me. I would compare the 30-06 similar to a 20 gauge 3 inch load
@keefertopher I just bought one and had a brake put on it too. It is one of the best guns I have owned. I have a 6x24 x50 scope and I am NOT afraid of a long at all,lol
@xKingNicKx2455 i think it depends on the gun. my 7mm rem mag is a winchester 70 and it kicks harder than my remington 870 with 1oz 12 gauge 2 3/4" slugs
@hookincatfish1 the 7mm is one of the fastest flatest shooter out there, the recoil was more of a push than a kick. \ I really liked it. but now I am looking at a 300 win short mag. even faster and flatter. \ if the rifle is heavy enough the recoil isnt that bad.
@keefertopher check your source, 7mm has higher bc bullets, unless you shoot 230gr 30cal's which a wsm cant handle, in that case 300wm. just trying to help u out. check berger's page, they have a page with all the bullets and bc's.
@hookincatfish1 i just got a winchster model 70 in 7mm rem mag. and i think it is a little strong for a 15 year old. im a small guy and 3 rounds downrange made me a little sore the next day. i would advise a 308 or 270 for hunting. if hes just benchrest shooting. go for a 223. the only other problem i have for 7mm rem mag is the price for a box of 20. itll go for 25 to 40 bucks depending on the brand.
@imjustwonderful what model 70 did you get bcuz im about to get the super grade and that is much heavier than the featherweight so it should kick less.
how far can you get out with that savage?how about groupings are they tight.I have an 1895 c mauser.7mm as well.recoil is not bad at all on the mauser.thxs
@keefertopher I've seen the same model/caliber shoot within 2" at 200 yards though - it's really a matter of the quality of optics and the shooter's skill. Savages are some of the most accurate factory rifles around.
My 30-06 gets 1-1.5 inch groups at 300 yards with hornafy 180 grain interlock bullets.I reccomend the savage rifles they are just awsome for the money. I put a burris black diamond scope on mine also i reccomend. Burris is one of the better bangs for your buck. Nikon would be my second choice. If you want real high end Zeiss if hard to beat and i think leuphold is overated for the money.
What bullet u shooting

I hate the 30-06 kick, this is smooth for a big caliber, more of a push, and that was a model 70 with a wood stock.

how bad is the recoil compared to a 20 gauge with slugs or a 30-06

@xKingNicKx2455 the recoil is nice compared to the 30-06

@monsterman27 That's damned impressive. MUST be a custom rifle and must have 0.25moa or less at 100 to do 1-1.5" at 300.
