  • hmm, i wonder how this epic piece would sound if i transcribed it to my bass :)

  • If you press 9, You won't be able to stop doing it!

  • @Johnburton10 sounds like the last 30 seconds of Panic Attack from Octoravium

  • That's one of my favourite parts too!

  • @KarateMastR57 i guess jordan already knows xD

  • hahah at the end he sounds like Cris Griffin from family guy XP

  • Comment removed

  • wait.. he actuly plays the harmonies..... oh wow, i respected him before but... wow..jiust wow!

  • @shredfix1993 There's a video somewhere were he explains how to get hand independency, guess that's where thise kind of stuff comes from.

  • Yay this is also my fav part of the song!

  • Lol'd at the end xD

  • i can under stand why its his favorite part :)

  • @MitchellBeazley Actually, it's a joke. This is James' least favorite part.

  • @progginger oh,well its still any amazing part :P

  • Best song ever

  • I had a dream of how the new album would sound like, and it was awesome, im obsessed with the new album

  • It's too bad you can barely hear the keyboard parts in this song since the guitar is so loud on the album.

  • Apparently James has never heard the rag time solo on Dance of Eternity.

  • lol that ending was the best!

  • Oh what I would give to learn what sound he was using at 0:37... or for the ability to create such a sound myself

  • @DuffanyHero2 I was thinking the exact same thing. Just at 0:44...

  • I imagined Rudess's wizard animation while watching that.

  • I just made a cover of this part : watch?v=5t3xZW_eb2w enjoy!

  • Man! Your are the BEST! really this is AWESOME!

  • I love the psychodelic effect this part makes every time I listen to it. One of the best parts ever written in music history :D

How does one come to think of something like that?

  • those lead harmonies are the only part of this song i still tryng to play, the rest is ok... BUT MOTHER FUCKER ITS IMPOSSIBLEEE!!!!

hate you jordan for making that freaking hard music

but also we all love you for making the best music of the world with dt, the greatest keyboardist arround the world, jesus christ rudess...

    cheers

  • I just discovered that DT went to Puerto Rico some years ago. I didn't go.... this is the sadest day of my entire life. :'(

  • Dear Mr. Rudess, if you keep playing like that, I'm sure you will rip a giant hole in the fabric of space and time, ending existence as we know it. I am perfectly fine with this. Please, carry on... 0_0

  • WHEN YOU WRITTE THESE KIND OF UNISOSNS YOU TAKE CONSCIENCE OF SOME HARMONY OR SOME SCALE OR MUSICAL MODE OR DO OYU JUST LET IT FLOW??I ALWAYS BEEN COURIOUS...

  • AAHHHH :D

  • Jordan, please stay here on earth.... please never return to your home-planet!!! The Earth loves you!!!!!! =))) Greetz from Switzerland (earth)

  • my favourite part also :)

  • Jordan.. you're a genius.

  • what's the time signature of this parts?

  • @blazerart Its 7-7-7-9, etc with the last measure, first in 9 changing to 8 and 12 and 11 :P

  • I remember when I heard this riff for the very first time, my head exploded because of the epicness......

  • god!!!!

  • aaaaaaa....very good...

  • it sounds the song and the keys!!....amazing!!!!

  • genius!!!!!!!

  • the patch he uses sound like the patch he used with the kurzweil on the dance of eternity begining

  • "Not that easy"? What kind of monster has been unleashed into this world?

  • I just love the harmonies of the guitar solo coming next to this part...Unfortunately he just played the 1st chord of the wonderful part :-(

  • absolutly beautiful

  • ARAHAAA!

  • After watching the online chat, I finally know why this is James' "favorite part"! :D

  • Same here :D

  • Lol the ending makes this video priceless. :D

  • It's not really James' favourite part. Jordan was telling us at a clinic that James felt that part shouldn't be in the song because it "didn't fit" and Mike and the guys put it anyways so now whenever Jordan flips through his presets such as "Count of Tuscany Intro" or something and he needs the preset for this part it reads "James' favourite part" lol

  • James is there for all the recording sessions and also helps out with the writing as well.

  • He isn't there, the music is written by the other guys, mainly by JP, MP and JR. He comes just for singing his parts.

  • @DDDekost

Actually, he was there for TOT, 8V, and SC, but not for the other albums. He did say that he's going to contribute to the next album:

"I did have a conversation with John and Mike and said 'Ok, this is how this one unfolded, but with the next album guys? No way. I don't want to be sitting back and not wanting to contribute the melody and lyrics for the songs."

  • lol... why wouldn't you expect that from "a singer", as you put it yourself, ?

You think he's gonna take a liking more towards the parts he participates in himself? that would be strange i tell ya

  • The sounds on this new album are all fucking killers. o_O

  • I just wish the keys were higher in the mix.. Listening to the stems, there are some simply incredible orchestrations going on that you can't hear. Still, amazing parts.

  • My favorite part toooo

  • Im agree with James!!

  • AAEEEEGGHHAAAAA!!! xD

    Best bit ever.

  • Well according to his biography he played drums when he was young, but apparently he doesn't play anymore.

    Guess you're right then :p

  • THAT is james's fave part?

lmao its mine too...but i dont expect that from a singer...who doesnt play any other instruments haha

  • Well maybe he does play any other instrument, why not.

  • well he doesnt i know that for a fact lol.

  • He plays guitar pretty well.

  • He used to play drums before he started on his singing career...in his teenage days.

Still, I would expect him to be somewhat decent on them.

  • I see Jordan changed his mind about built in vibrato functions

  • I guess he would do the vibrato but since he also plays with his left hand that make's it hard to do at the same time.

  • yeah, that's probably the reason

  • Oh yes. Complete cakewalk up until the lead harmonies lol.

  • wow it might not be easy but u still pull it off! thats why we love u!

  • so much inspiration

  • JCRUDESS = Jesus Christ Rudess ? xD xD

  • Jordan Charles Rudess

  • @novaXire jesus christ is nothing compared with this god of music

  • @novaXire that's Jordan Charles Rudess

  • @novaXire -Not funny,not funny at all.

  • wheee that's my favorite part too! too bad it's not integrated better into the whole song structure

  • Jordan, you are up there with the greats such as Emerson, Moraz and Wakeman!!!

  • Jordan... you`r the best at playing... the count of tuscany this part is very cool... greetings from Paraguay...

  • Hahahahaha Jordan you're GREAT XD

    0:44 -----> LOL XD

  • I certainly hope you've been screaming like that in the tour!

  • Is it just me that thinks the Oasys keys sound really plasticky/clicky here?

  • it's probably just the iphone microphone picking up every little sound, and Jordan is hitting the keys hard anyway

  • This is my favorite part of the song too! It's even my ringtone.

  • How do you change sounds...foot pedal? Sound change timed out to the milisecond?

  • foot pedal, just like he does live

  • He uses a foot pedal with everything pre-programmed in order per song.

  • wow, you are the master, Jordan!

and very funny at the end, laughed a LOT!

    i love your music!

  • Awesome ! Thanks for posting Jordan

    Caroline

  • Wow..My god...Dude you are EPIC!

  • hahahaha, awesome man!

  • wicked, Boss!! just wicked!!

  • I'm learning this song on keyboards...and this part especially is definitely the most fun part to play. Love it! :D

  • Jordan, how did you attach the iPhone? I also want to record videos of me playing but I don't know how to attach it!

  • Wow, my favorite part too... That's my phone ringtone! :D

    I love you Jordan.

    Thank you for posting this!

  • Awesome , looking forward to see it live :-)

  • jordan rudess rulez!

  • Mindblowing!

  • I take it this is the part that James was annoyed with? JR's favourite part? haha

  • Impressive - quite impressive, Mr. Rudess. I very much look forward to you and the other minstrels, collectively known as Dream Theater, to tell the world my story! - The Count

  • Jordan you truly are amazing and inspiring. So The Count of Tuscany will be played live? Can't wait to see if you guys play it in Philly. See ya out on tour! Good luck with the shows!

  • Awesome Jordan! Can't wait to see you guys at the meet & greet in Orlando, got my tickets ready. I really hope you guys play TCOT that night :)

  • Gee thanks Jordan.. I just blew a load all over my computer screen and its ALL YOUR FAULT

  • Please keep that to yourself, the man has a family and doesn't want to know that. =)

  • suuuuure..... well it happened again as I replied to your comment since the video is above

  • Jordan man! thats so cool how you respond to Youtube comments too! Keep up the sick playing and we'll see you in Minneapolis in august

  • I'm sure glad I'm not a keyboardist! You're f*ed zolhof. Should've stuck to the drums! ;) Awesome practice videos Jordan. Glad you're sharing them!

  • that´s my fav part too!!

its nice to see how you have mastered the combi changes on the Oasys.. the gap is almost unnoticeable !!! I just suck at that ahaha

  • Awesome! This is actually one of my favorite parts of the song. I'm always a sucker for the proggy stuff.

  • Ya know- some of these parts just take practice! They were done as separate takes in the studio. It is not our style to run backing tracks, so this is my personal challenge!

  • it's comforting to know that you get challenged by your own compositions once in a while too...I know I try to listen and pick it up by ear...and it's close to impossible...

Looking forward to seeing you play this live...

  • @JCRUDESS What's the hardest keyboard part you have in your Dream Theater songs, if not that?

  • @JCRUDESS you're still awesome Jordan. Thank you for the awesome music :)

  • @JCRUDESS Nice one Mr. Rudess.

  • @JCRUDESS

Cool Jordan. It would have been awesome to see you and John do the In the name of god unison on youtube :D

  • Wow. The Count of Tuscany isn't going easy on you Jordan. =) Would you say it's harder then The Dance of Eternity? Also, I guess, this was the riff that LaBrie found too weird and out of place?

Well, either way, I love it!

  • this is just awesome !

  • AAAAAAAAHHH !

haha that last part was really fun and unexpected :D

  • Really good part! Man this song is only good parts!
