  • Rock Steady Video Productions will be filming Stephen Wolf & Garden of Eden LIVE at The Mason County Metal fest in Bellfair Washington On October 22, 2011. Dont miss this show.

  • John Kay has one of the best Blues Rock voices every recorded!

  • You got something against bass players? Not a single shot of the bass player...

  • Steppenwolf is one of the bands I am glad I got to see live....I just wish I could remember it

  • GENUINE BONA-FIDE 60'S ROCKSTER STUFF HERE! Folks, this is the REAL thing! This is "the sound".

  • amazed at how many you have of this grande' group. they were 2nd up front live i saw. always love the whole of group act. rock and roll at its best thanks for good memories.

  • This is a cover of the song The Pusher by Hoyt Axton made famous by the first truly bad ass American Band the legendary Steppenwolf the original

Outlaw Rock Band saw John Kay and Steppenwolf on the riverboat president while it cruised the Mississippi river in '88 It was so cool and only 35 bucks

Bob Dylan was right when he said the crap coming out of his daughters radio

was hideous, todays lack of analog organic music is sad

what people today think is music is sad

    Peace and Leslies Forever

  • They sound pretty tight here. Faved

  • the blind melon version kicks so much more ass!!!

  • The James Gang did this song live before they had a record contract, Walsh did vocals.

  • I think his voice is now very bluesy

  • man its a shame ppl dont know obout this band as mutch as they shoud. This is what rock music is all obout!

  • rien a voir avec la version de E. Rider

  • John Kay is an obvious talent and no fool, but why have a pre-programmed bass track? Takes away a lot of the 'live' feel.

  • Lookin good still

  • Lost much of the original magic. But everything changes does it not?

  • What a bore !

  • @Landmeinen That is becasue you are use to and expect Lady GaGa!

  • Love this band none better!

  • Why are all these shit quality bids here??? It's a complete waste of web space.

  • just up the road from me where i used to live in roanoke va. i got hrown out of school for playing this song in 1976 at high school concert weird people, got in a fight with the principle on the bus even weird days, i mwasnt liked for playing this and only two mebers of the band would play it neither stayed after wards also, alot of little craps back in the days right

  • John Kay was indeed from East Germany. When he was 13 he came to Canada where he learned english, rose from the ashes left after World War 2, what a success story for this man!

  • kay was actually born in germany

  • Hard & Sad days. Elder Tom

  • Where's the guy with the large and bushy Afro haircut?

  • Fast freddie...dude I knew from the lower east side about 74...ave. b and 6th ..anyone else remember that cat?

  • Kay is a Canadian

  • John Kay and Steppenwolf put in 40 years as a band and then stepped aside in '06. While I miss them and grew up on the music, I certainly can appreciate John wanting to retire and enjoy his life in comfort. The first seven albums the 'Wolf put out were classics. The first two and Monsters being my favs. I never saw a bad Steppenwolf performance and that spanned 30 years. They should be in the Rock'n'Roll HoF. None better.

  • id declare total war, on the pusherman-- makes sense to me but they lump all so called "drugs" into one felonious act

  • John Kay(lead singer/guitarist) he owns the rights to the name "Steppenwolf", and 1 or 2 other guys from the orginal band are still in the band now. I think a few other guys are new in it , I think.

  • John Kay is the only 'original' member in the band. He very well could be the only one still alive.

  • check out blind melons version of this

  • my first favorite band. took 2 hits of speed ,drove 2 hrs to see them in charlotte one night, parking lot was empty. it was wrong night, ever done that shit

  • This sure looks and sounds like John Kay to me. Who says Kay is missing?

  • It is John Kay. The band IS Steppenwolf. John owns the rights to the band name. Just because he doesn't have his mustache here he looks different. Same guy, same guitar, same key. Same great song.

  • Cool. I went to see them live at the Seminole Casino in Immokalee Florida this past Saturday. They were very good. Had been 41 years since I first saw them in '68.

  • The Bass guitar was commonly played by goldy on the keyboard. search my homemade guitar called The Obama Guitar

  • I saw JOHN KAY and the band back in 1982 at LOWERY AIR FORCE BASE Airman's club. YOU CAN BET "The Pusher" wasn't played that night. Air Force Bases aren't bastions of free speech~just PROTECTORS of free speech! This band IS John Kay and he's missing here!

  • the dealer and the pusher are in a saandwiiich, ahhhh with mustarrrd and pickllllles

  • no john kay?

  • next time spend the twenty five bucks and invest in a cheap tripod so we dont get seasick viewing this stuff.

  • close your eyes. this is good sound quality for a average joe recording a band

  • Glad to see they remained cool.

  • Hi,

There is a live album with The Pusher on it. It is not current, and is also not Steppenwolf Live from 1970. The Pusher(1968) is on this live album from 1970, but it isn't the version I am looking for. The one I would like to find contains The Pusher which takes up the whole side of the album. At first, all of the members were making sounds independent from the other members-all were on acid and it sounds it.They then break in with that unforgettable chord & lead, and play the song out. NE1?

  • LIVE AT THE MATRIX I THINK IT WAS CALLED.

Boy, did I feel cool listening to that album LOUD LOUD LOUD.

  • Thanks 4year- You are correct. I looked it up and it is from a 1967 concert.

  • Could be on the album 'Early Steppenwolf' which i believe was recorded when they were still The Sparrow. I haven't Wikied so don't slaughter me if I'm wrong- only trying to help.

  • "Roll another joint brother, switch on and drop out".

  • It's a crime and shame they only made one album. They are musical geniuses. Their music will live on forever and be enjoyed for generations to come.

  • One album? Dude, they made 17 albums from 1968 through 76.

  • Man , Steppenwolf needs to come back , sitting in Texas Cafe NYC late 70s thought they were on the jute box , then looked up and there they were . Such a huge band playing small clubs , don't get it . They were huge and hip in the late '60s early '70s with a great sound .

Then saw them in another small joint in Texas . John Kay needs to get the originals and tour . Put out some new music , its time now . They are Great !

  • A little question, why didn't you have put the WHOLE number on Internet? Now, there is missing the last 30-40 seconds, which have made the number complete!

  • blind melons cover of this song ROCKS

  • ooooh they still sound good. :D

  • what year is that?

  • One best damn bands to come out of the great white north! John Kay is great!

  • Steppenwolf. Ah, great band by John Kay; great book by Herman Hesse...

  • Damn right my friend Steppenwolf might not have the biggest repertoire but in terms of substance they are the top Rock group because of the Pusher and Power Play by telling it how it (ie a lot of balls) Free's Mr Big is a cousin

  • Damn I wish I had a time machine toni Orlando and a fro wig hilarious!

  • because john kay is toni orlando

  • I wonder why this monumental song is so unpopular in some circles....

  • Can't beat the studio version. It's got an atmosphere to it that can't be captured by a live version.

  • ha not even dude, live rules it by far. besides these guys dont really know improvsation, so both live and studio are exactly the same.

  • @leonardoboy2 yeah thats true for few songs with good artists, but its definitley true for this song

  • come on someone reply to my other comment i thought it was jokes

  • Kay sounds great 35 years later - led a clean life

  • good tune all most make me wish i grow up in the 60s or the 70 instead of the 80s

  • This is actually an anti-drug song written by Hoyt Axton.

  • no shit sherlock.........homes

  • This fucking kicks ass. Where can I find the rest of this concert?!

  • Yeah... Captain America and Billy forever!

  • well I smoked alot of grass

and Ive popped alot of pills

    but i never touched nothing

    that my spirit couldnt kill

    cool song cool blues guitar

  • Silly remark, thats is your opinion, we are not interested in that btw

  • magic, we are in seventies

  • I was lucky enough to see these guys in a small club up close in about 1982. Great show!! brought down the house.

  • Look at my Channel maybe you will like my Band!

Life without Music, would be an mistake.

    Peace

  • hey these guys are retiring this year and a detroit band exit is taking over the biker thing...so billy go to youtubes eddiecooper369 to ck them out......later dude..

  • i got in trouble for singing this song in the front yard when i was a kid.we lived across the street from a convent and i was going to catholic school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What... The nuns didn't like the part about smoking a lot of grass? ...or was it the pill popping they didn't like?

  • steppenwolf la rockeaba!

  • Thanks men!!

    Saludos desde Argentina

  • Reminds me of Rev Jeremiah Wright. Hmm; why isn't there a parody based on this song

  • A moment in rock history captured. I cut him if if he stands shoot em if he runs. I get em with my bible and my razor and my gun! God damn on the pusher

  • I always thought it was "bottle," not "Bible," but we get the point.

  • It sounds to me like "I'd kill 'em with my bible and I'D RAISE THE RENT". I know it doesn't make much sense. What good what it do to raise the rent on a man you just killed? Still, that's what I've been thinkin' all this time. Guess I'll have to give it another listen...

  • zplnfan ~What are you on , is Acid still around ?

  • Still standin !!!

  • Y'know...if I were the president, of this land....I'd declare total immunity, for the pusherman :-)

  • still total badasses with a total vengeance on the pusher man! Great stuff

    10/10

  • Is that John Kay?

  • Yes, I saw him that year at a festival.

  • Heed the first words of the these lyrics,,,,,so true, so true....."don't ever kill your spirit...hell yeeeaaah!!"

  • i was 13 old and this was my first album. daddy loved it ,mamma hated it .me and daddy won out. rock and roll will never die.

  • It was my first real album, around 12 or 13, Got it from a cousin and wore the groved out of it. I can find anything I listened to, as a kid, on youtube. Its great.

  • "The Pusher" on the radio, me,my chick and my 1969 Dodge Charger on the road ...it must be the heaven...!

  • you must be in heaven, cause they never played this on american radio in 1969.

you couldn't say "goddamn" over the public airways back then. fcc, y'know.......

  • Ok Mr. Perfect or Mr. Stupid!...One more time:

The Pusher on the Radio (NOW! ON 2008), me, my chick and my 1969 Dodge Charger on the road...it must be the heaven!...

  • Uah ha ha ha ha ha, ja ja ja ja....immigrant!...good joke!

  • I heard it on the AM radio 1969 after midnight!

  • awsome music. was great in easy rider but now john kay's voice has gotten better with time. sort of sounds like he's channeling muddy waters

  • Powerful song.

  • I een them 2x 1 67 asberry park nj, real good then in69 at the fillmore eat when they were doing the live lps and they were great.i think monter is like it was written today,I never hear it on the radio it fits

  • yeah, this is seriously one of the best bands ever and they are so sadly underrated and under-appreciated

  • Too right, their first two albums are the business.. I have their first one on original 8 track

  • i have steppenwolf At your birthday party, and Steppenwolf Live on Vinyls

  • cause they were Canadian :O

  • They were NOT Canadian!!!! John Kay was born in Germany - everybody else in the original band was from California!!

  • Earthlinked....before you speak, I suggest you do your homework. You just outted yourself as a total dumbass. Look up your facts about where these bandmates are from. What a dick.

  • REgardless of where you THINK they are from John Kay was from Germany - I am sure of it - I have met the man many times!!

OK - now you can kiss my arse!!

  • INCREDIBLE DOCUMENT GOT FOR GUITARMAN45!. One of the best and the first band in progressive rock. Is Incredible in several countries, young boys know Led Zeppelin and Deep Purpele, BUT DON´T KNOW "STTEPENWOLF", THE FIRTS THAT GOT THIS INCREDIBLE STYLE AND SOUND. (May be that Steppenwolf were more short live). As professional music I was, I´m very pleased to see this "35 film", difficult to record, telephoto, nervous, and more! CONGRATULATION FOR GUITARMAN45. Willy from Argentina

  • help me I'm chippin

  • Pot Smokers (dealers) versus the PUSHHHHHER

man, he's the ex/blackpanther/aryannation/cia/kgb/drugdealin/pushingmethspeedcrackcocainealcohol pusher versus Adolf Hitler, i guess~~elect ron paul!

  • flyin' high with my happy angels..

    @acep1lot

  • What kind of total war should this be ???

I just see the tiny Jugoslavia, Afghanistan and Irak - war !!!!

  • GOD DAMN THE PUSHER MAN!!!

  • rock on pussher i need somethin

  • Wow, I used to live in Fairfax... Back when this was done I think too

  • Just goes to show that rock songs just TELL THE PLAIN TRUTH!!!

  • Thanx for sharing!

  • Muhhhhuhaxx

  • Right on!

  • I've head this song a million times, this is a first time for me seing this video. It just took my breath away!

  • Rock On Brother !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ive alwys liked this track. Its meaningful and creates a serious atmousphere. Live music always gives a bit extra.

  • They rock, who are you kiddin? Soo classic! Thanx for the post!

  • The lead was always John Kay. He should have hung it up a long time ago. Thanks for posting, but it's the reason he moved from Constitution Hall to the Cellar Door in the 1970's, and then, the county fair in Gaithersburg, MD, with bands nobody's heard since 1970 like America. Sorry. (shrug)... pthuuut.

  • I just saw steppenwolf and he was outstanding. He's got 10 more years in him.

  • Ah this song sends shivers up my spine, still rocks.

    Love and hugs from Holland

  • Their lead singer he plays the guitar sooooo cool like. His swagger is so cool while he plays the guitar, sings and does his act. Yeah, and the other guitar player is real good. They rock !!

  • The same show came in Montreal, Canada. Its was great!

  • Great job on the Video! The guitarist is Danny Johnson, who is one of the best you will ever hear or see.

  • I luv Steppenwolf. one of the best rock groups of all time.

  • Funny fact: This song is written by the guy who plays the father in the Gremlins movie ! (Hoyt Axton)

  • and the father in the beginning of the movie "The Black Stallion"...

  • I have no idea why this video does not have 9 billion hits.

    Just the best song EVER!

  • Me neither.. someone posted that it is under-rated too

  • Yeah, God Damn The Pusherman...♫♫!

Thank you sweety for post this video..

    Love It very Much..

    Peace & Love

    Magnolia _ Jane M.

  • You're quite welcome , babe... I'am glad you liked it

  • STILL A GREAT GROUP

  • They played in Wichita last week and completely knocked me out. The Pusher has been a favorite song for 30 years now, not getting over it yet.

  • Excellent live version. Underrated.

  • Steppenwolf is so MUCH more than "Born to be Wild".

Songs like "Move Over", "Disappointment Number", "Lost and Found", "What Would You Do", "The Pusher", "Don't Step on the Grass, Sam", "Power Play", "Monster" and on and on. I think they are the one group that NEVER put out a bad album...a most AMAZING group.

  • Amen brother! Steppenwolf the Second still to this day gives me chills of joy! What a phenomenal project they were!

  • I guess it was the prelude of heavy metal, but strongly based in blues, so it was kind of a wild rock and roll sound with bluessy cheesey flavor perhaps more cool melodic chord progressions than classic blues chords format

  • and for Ladies only,hippopotamus...one of the best group ever really

  • Wow, NOTHING better than this!

  • Brilliant band!!

  • I guess they retired they were a no show at "Ol' Hippys Joint 2/24/07. Happy Birthday Al and Ste! A great time was had by all with the large kettle of Shrimp Gumbo, provided by Ol' Hippy himself!

  • They did retire in 2006..... I've heard John Kay interview on Satellite radio recently, so this one is one the last amateur videos of this band

  • This song has one of the best guitar hooks ever - easier to hear on the album.

  • Nice job, I hated carrying cameras to concerts but have a few times. PS This is "The Pusher" by Hoyt Axton. The boys always paid great tribute to it.

  • Thx for the correction... I thoght it was am original..they great covers...they did "The thrill Is Gone" pretty good...

  • I saw Steppenwolf last summer (2006) in Alberta (Canada). They still sounded great, and this song was the 'finale'. Unfortunately, according to what they told us, they are going to retire next year.

  • Monsters of Rockn Roll.Killers.The Ones.Son lo mas grande que hay,los esperamos en Argentina!

  • Killer performance -- great video!

  • Since the concert started I noticed that the sound engineering was terrific, quite a bit difference from regular bands...plus I think outdoor concerts sound better

  • In the late '60's there was an extended version of "The Pusher" it was almost 30 mins of play...it consisted of sound check, so you heard some wild sounds....

  • I seen Steppenwolf at DuQuoin, Illinois in summer of '69,and like you say, they played it for a really long length of time. Those were the days when they were at their height and their best. Was great.
