Star Trek is the most amazing show. <3<3Gene Roddenberry. How much fun he must have had creating all these characters writing about them experiencing them. Other than close encounter types of experiences it probably the next best thing.

The borg is a weapon one would like to possess as a separate entity. Intelligent HOW? They're a ruthless efficient OBEDIENT collective employing any means to fulfill a directive. Anyone can do that it isn't special or unique.They don't argue b/c their memory is erased. The borg are great servants of whoever rules them. Their intelligence was stolen from others & that translate to none at all. Borg..a collection of energies who don't have a life. Intelligent are those like Data, Q etc

The Borg certainly are intelligent. Taken individually, drones are merely servants of the whole, but the Collective mind is an intelligent, thinking entity. To make an analogy, a human mind is filled with mutliple thoughts at any one time, but these thoughts are presided over by a single consciousness. The same is roughly true of the Borg, and their intelligence lies in this one mind. This mind controls drones much like a brain controls a limb.

The borg collects the history of the species it doesn't support individuals but it is made up of individuals who have no value other than serving the whole. A human mind efficiently works on behalf of the individual and body it is attached to whereas if one component of The Borg can't follow its programming or malfunctions it is terminated. Downloading memory/stealing from what exists isn't intelligence. If it weren't made up of human vessels it would be an efficient machine.

A cell in a human body has no other value than serving the whole. That does not mean that the thing which it serves is not intelligent. And, just like a malfunctioning drone, the human body seeks to destroy malfunctioning cells. This does not undermine the presence of an intelligence. Furthermore, taking information from where it already exists is the primary way in which human beings learn - we acquire information from others, or "download" it into our minds through reading, the internet, etc.

Human body maintains its integrity unlike the 'components' of The Borg. Components lose their integrity they have no will of their own. If they weren't seperate entities& even if they volunarily assimilated that woud be one thng. A machine with human & other species as components which are subject to this madness one wouldn't call inteligent. Data is consumed The Borg doesn't improve or support individual thought. Its designer would be intelligent but that credit cannot go to The Borg.

None of your comments here rule out the idea of collective intelligence. Just because drones regain their individuality once they are separated from the collective does not mean that they weren't previously part of a sentient group consciousness. And simply because the Borg does not "improve individual thought" does not mean that the collective mind as an entity in its own right cannot learn; assimilation is only a "more efficient" way of acquiring information.

"Dishy" is actually what I call younger men, where it would be inappropriate to call them "hot." Hot presumes an intention that one might be prepared to follow through given the slightest provocation. The extremely dishy Zachary Quinto plays the arch villian "Sylar" on the TV series Heroes. Sylar has the supernatural gift of being able to steal powers from other heroes by searing open their heads with telekinesis. It was a brave move to cast him against type in the role of Spock for the new Star Trek but not everyone appreciates the casting, particularly Leonard Nimoy fans. Now you know who he is you can hop on the bandwagon. You're quite free to think & express and I'm free to love Ladytron!

I'm sorry but I just have to add another protagonist to my comments on media moguls who destroy everything they touch. Australian television executives are in my line of sight, shows destroyed amongst them Star Trek by Channel 9 screening episodes out of sequence, warehousing it to late night and then ditching it when even the most ardent fans gave up in bemusement! This is favourite Youtube video of all time because in so many ways it hits the nail on the head about media execs everywhere.
