Sounded like a brake pad rubbing. Worked in a railyard for 11 years, all kinds of noises produced by engines & rolling stock that you can tell don't bode well. But the crew is up front and can't hear it. They'd be well served to have inspectors at crossings to document motion noises for closer attention by maint later.
they shhould have a control board of alerts going on with engines and cars so there aint derailment or engines stalling out were in the 21st century we have the technogly to create something to have alerts on a board to tell the enganeer what happening with the cars and locomotives
Autostart systems also sound like an old school bell, and they only ring for 5-6 seconds prior to start up. The consist on this train has been running for a few minutes just to pull out of the yard the Autostart would have already been up and running.
The beeping sound is a train line alarm. The diesel in the 3rd until shut down due to a fault in the system, normally low oil pressure or low water pressure. All CN engines are rated to 67 mph or faster (there's no such thing as a switcher only locomotive) and if you get an over speed indicator it sounds like an old school bell, not a digital beeping. All the have to do is isolate the unit, problem solved.
That sounded like an overspeed indicator. if the locomotive was built for switching only then if going 50mph it might sound the overspeed indicator. telling you that it wasnt built to go that fast.
To all the people saying the locomotive is in reverse: that's absurd. This train would not be moving if one of the locomotives was actually powering in the wrong direction. But even if it was, trains aren't like trucks - they don't beep when they back up. Mechanically, locomotives are essentially symmetrical front to rear and it makes no difference which direction they travel in.
the one engine was trying to reastart it is simple an engineer was starting the train in motion the engine must of failed on them if any of you heard a train starting that is the excact sound it makes
@cooky556 a speaker emits a noise when the engine starts? Never heard that on a locomotive engine starting video. Some people say it's an alarm because an engine stop turning?
@danwat1234 no i should no a family member works with cn and he says there just trying to restart it while in motion so when they start it while its moving it will make a beeping sound just like that
Simple. A genious on the crew forgot to put the reverser lever in NEUTRAL before setting it up as a TU which even then wouldnt make since, because all TUs (Trailing Units) must have the reverser lever removed before it can be a TU. I guess this could have been an exception. Not good for the traction motors at all. It is reversing the current if the reverser is in R and the loco is moving foward. Way to burn em up, CN. Lol. Nothing against them though.
Engines that have autostart have a bell or buzzer that sounds for a little while before the engine self-starts, to warn any crew members who are in or around the engine compartment to get clear.
I heard a CSX locomotive at my house one day making that same sound, i think it has something to do with the either emergency, alerter, or dynamic brakes. But i could be wrong :P
We had a NS Train pass through VA before i filmed trains. 2 Locomotives The first once kept doing this repeated clanking while in motion. Sounded like a steam engine
the circuit board is only supposed to activate that sound if the train is moving backwards. maybe something shorted out or got crossed so it made the noise while the motor was running in reverse for resistance breaking. instead of it actually moving backwards or just accelerating backwards.
As a former CN locomotive engineer, I can tell you that the beeping you're hearing is some sort of fault alarm such as a ground relay or hot engine, or perhaps an engine shut-down.
@kickass4510 since when do they have back up alarms, i see them reverse all the time with no alarm and an alarm would be pointless given the loudness of the motor
@CNRailWabamun been so long I might not remember correctly, but if i'm not mistaken the electronics were upgraded but not to dash 2 specs or something like that, I've always heard them being called SD40u unlike most that get dash 2 compnents like the GEC alsthom rebuilds that were called SD40-3
Are you sure that CN 6006 is not a SD40u? Because if it is, there will not be a bell on by the number boards. As for the beeping, that might be the alerter that the engineer must push or the engine will die. Sort of like the deadman's pedal.
@UP5140SD70M I think CN will blow anything they got. I saw an SD75I a few weeks ago with a bad turbo-charger. Smoke was billowing out like an MLW. GE's certainly are not as reliable, and will blow more often obviously.
@RailfanDaniel Yes i hope they blow up all there GE's and just use there EMD's! CN Actually does not stand for Canadian National it stands for Canadian Train Explosion Center, LOL BNSF Needs to blow up there ExplodingS**t's (ES44's) and All there Trash 9's AC44's and actually BNSF Does not need useless un realiable GeneralExplosion Units, Dylan
@UP5140SD70M lol. I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't really like ES44DC's too much though. As for CN, yes i'd say so too lol. New initials, CTEC. BNSF does have way to many GE's, it makes me sick. I don't mind the Dash 9's, but the GEVO's i wouldn't mind seeing them explode. BNSF needs SD70ACe's and SD70M-2's! Or just keep the old classic EMD power.
@RailfanDaniel EMD's gone, its CAT now. Must says that the m-2 cabs are pretty nice with their nose edges. Unfortunatly ive been told by enginners that the rust is eating throught the entire 8000-8024 series. Class 1 gets GE because they are more fuel efficient.
@julienjjj EMD isn't necessarily gone, they are just owned and operated under CAT standards. That's sad 8000-8024 are rusting away, and they are only 4 years old. What about 8800-8914? GE's maybe more fuel efficient, but they do have quite a bit of problems.
wouldnt a detector catch it?
