SCAL no longer works with Cricut. You must have older versions of SCAL or Make the Cut and not have updated the firmware on the Cricut since before April. Provo Craft (maker of Cricut) sued the guy who wrote Make the Cut, and he had to settle. SCAL agreed to take Cricut out of its programming to avoid a similar lawsuit.

Just be warned...I bought a Silhouette and the new SCAL and the software never recognized the Silhouette. I ended up returning the cutter and had to petition with Paypal to get a refund for the software. I ended up buying a Cricut and was able to get a copy of the older version of SCAL and it works just fine! I'm very happy with what I now have!

The Silhouette has it's own program that allows you to cut SVG files. Sorry to hear that you returned it. The Silhouette does a lot more than the Cricut does and I have that as well.

So I build fiberglass things as a hobby - these things usually start out as 110lb card stock templates that get coated with resin for rigidity. My 3D modeling software will allow me to output the templates in a 2D layout. At current I have to spend a week cutting the parts out by hand before I can begin assembly. I'm trying to find out if there is a way to import the output from the modeling software into the cricut software? The majority of the files I work with use a .pdo file extension.

SCAL is still sold, but it is no longer compatible with a Cricut. You need to use a cutting machine like the Sillhouette or BlackCat or whatever, and since it requires a firmware update to install you can't share an old copy.

I'm buying a Sillhouette next so that I can also update my SCAL.

Hi, to be totally clear, who ever owns a copy of SCAL before the lawsuit is entitled to buy another copy - a replacement, who has purchased SCAL before the lawsuit I would like to buy this software for my Daughter before cricut even if it is a used copy as long as it works for cricut express version 2.31 thanks

You may want to at least change your title or description for this video so that we know SCAL 2 is no longer available. I was very excited until I figured out you can no longer buy a version of the software that supports Cricut.

@reginadotnet Please check your comments for validity before slamming someone that's trying to help others. As long as you purchased SCAL before March of 2011, it not only works with the Cricut, but it works great. Since you cannot purchase it any longer, Provo Craft has nothing to complain about any longer, but those of us that purchased it before March 2011 can thoroughly enjoy SCAL as well as the videos such as this one!

@lndtlr good news I heared if you purchased a copy before the lawsuit you can get a re issue for small fee you must have a receipt to prove the purchase date ! - this is great and one for the little guy !

I updated my cricut expression the other day to the most up to date firmware and it works fine! I love my SCAL! I have SCAL 2 so I don't know why you are saying it won't work! Sounds like Cricut and all the other companies are just mad!

I went to look for sure cuts a lot software and only version 3 is available which says it wont work with cricut machine. Do you know where I can get version 1 or 2?

@luckypelts Due to the difficulties between Provo Craft and Craft Edge, SCAL 2 and 1 cannot be sold anymore. Sorry!

I have a question for you, I am trying to take an Iris folding pattern and use SCAL to cut the outline on my cricut but can't seem to get rid of all the pieces, I have tried to move nodes but they won't move for me. hi!!!! my question is.,.. i know you can cut any font out there :P but what about designs, are you able to make layers like with the cartridges?... like for instance when you have a character, you are able to cut the shirt, and then the pants, and the face, and so on, and at the end you "buid" all together to end up with a nice colorful thing, is it the same with this scal, or just silhouettes or how does it work?... thanks! i hope you can answer me because im seriously thnkng of getting it!

@sarafresa It's very unfortunate that you can't buy SCAL any longer, since it can be used with layers, so you can cut out the objects in different colors and "build" them together like you wanted. I'm so sorry for those of you that didn't purchase this great software in time!

Hi there, thanks for the info. My question is (your may have seen it heaps but I only just found out about the Sure cuts a lot today) someone told me it can "b.low up" your cricut "computer brain" - like fry it. If it does you have no come back as it's not official or 'legal' software for the machine, so if it does blow it up you've lost your money and your machine. is this just Cricut hype to make you too scared to use it or is this for real?

I have tried to install the firmware on my cricut and have no luck at all despite following the instructions to a T. Two days worth of trying actually! Have you heard of any problems about this? I'm using Windows 7 but also tried it on a Vista machine. Same problem. The computer doesn't recognize the cricut machine. Solutions?
