  • First time I heard Woman Like a Man I just thought: Damien, you bastard! :)

Amazing lyrics, perfect amount of dirt !!

  • G E N I O

  • I wish he did a studio version of this song in this way. Angry and passionate. The studio version in comparison falls flat.

  • At 4:54 starts the song "Lonely soldier" ;)

  • Damn what a great song man!!

  • Donde puedo encontrar la tablatura en bajo de esta cancion?!

  • He looks a bit like Thom Yorke from a distance in this :)

  • the emotion he puts into each word is amazing!....

  • Like a Boss, Like a Boss ...

  • that cello is so heavy during the breakdown

  • For all the people saying shit about Cobain....

Listen to ''In Bloom''. Riff sounds kinda similar to this, huh?

    (Still though, I prefer Rice. (: )

  • He's so much better live sometimes I swear.

  • at 3min wow just wow

  • Fuck up about Kurt Cobain they are in no way any similar as artists and they are both amazing in there own ways. Can't cunts like you just appreciate a song without having to compare other artists shut the fuck up you dumb cunts.

  • What does mean exactly "Woman like a Man" ?

    The song is very beautiful!

    I think is

There is a Woman trasgresive! She wants everything and oviesly also fuck!

What is the bond of "Woman like a Man" and "Trasgresive Woman" ?

I'm not English, please, help me!

  • Este hombre emociona en todas las canciones, la piel de gallina, es alucinante

  • This is just music you don't get bored of

  • Best two songs of all time!

  • listen to at least two songs of yours a day! just cant get enough. GOOD JOB!!

  • okay tonedeafmunkey... that comment is not true. They both are very talented!

  • Esse é O cara''' Perfeito d+'

  • hey! could a native english speaker help me out with the lyrics? cause I checked on the internet but there's too many different version and I don't really get which of these is the good one

    thx a lot ;)

  • I love this version...it is more intense than the audio versoin....really great !

    but the censored words.....*sigh*

  • This version is bloody censored!!!!

it's "you wanna get fucked inside out" and he doesn't get to even use his original lyrics!!!

  • @jonasvanderstighelen

what is the verb sostituted ? "you wanna be ??? inside out"

the real version is fucked but I don't understand and hear the verb

I have problem with language because I'm not english!

  • amazing.

  • Is this drummer also the drummer for Lisa Hannigan's solo album? He looks like the same drummer

  • damien does a lot with lisa, and i'm pretty sure he helped produce her solo album. so, probably.

  • I don't think so considering they had a falling out and she left his tour...

  • no unfortunatly they had a few arguments so he had nothing to do with the album of lisa.

  • Yes so is the bass player.

  • Yeah that would be Tomo!

  • It's the same guy.

  • wuts the destorted mike he uses called

  • no!

  • ralph pls go

  • the drummer looks like voldemort =(

  • Who's on bass?

  • Shane Fitzsimons :)

  • jamie oliver

  • passionate, humane, makes me in awe. great singer he is.

  • he is amazing in every possible way.'good voice'i agree with you its a fuckin cliche`! u can actually feel his pain through his music and his fury! i feel it all with every beat ..i love his music.

  • what kind of Microphone we uses and how he use the Wah efect with an acoustic amplified bye a magnetic bar?

  • He uses a basic microphone linked to a distorsion pedal (boss DS-2) with asymetric cable.

  • Do you know what kind of wah pedal he uses?

  • A Morley I believe.

  • Alright, thanks man

  • he is the best.

  • this BBC live version is the best

  • On the swearing debate, I think the profanity was used as tool in this song. It added an urgency of meaning that only profanity can express. It intensified the rawness of this song.

  • First of all, he's just potentially expressive. When he sings it looks like he's singing just what you're thinking, even if you're truly happy, you get his fury and you start remember all those stuff in shit mode that had happened to you.

"He's got a great voice" it's a fucking cliché. He has no good voice. He has a good sight of music versus world.

  • You are talking complete and utter shite....you are trying to be a musical intellect and you fail horribly.

  • The bass-line is freaking awesome

  • This is true grit right here, pure velocity of emotion with great harmony and instrumentation. Powerful

  • Stephen Fry has said some awesome things about the niavity of people who are against swearing.

  • I found it on the B-Sides on Itunes Cmac.

  • what cd is women like a man on, i know its not on his album but maybe a compilation cd or something

  • it's actually on his album "0". It's at the very end of Eskimo, it starts at about 16:57 on the track.

  • I'm pretty sure the two bonus tracks are 'Prague' and 'Silent night'. I could be wrong though, I havent listened to the album version of eskimo in ages.

  • It goes "Prague", "Silent Night", and then "Woman Like A Man".

  • There's no Woman Like a Man on my O.

    It is on B-sides.

  • Woman Like a Man is now on Eskimo, only Prague and Silent night are. I wake up listening to O every morning.

  • It's not on my O either, it has to be a B-Side.

  • its on the rare and bsides album

  • ah.

  • the shit

  • the shit!

  • Wow. I haven't seen this version before... amazing !

  • wouldnt call these his most beautiful lyrics - pretty bitter and cynical - but describes alot of girls i know

  • he's lyrics are just beautiful!:D genius :D

  • Soul.

  • he's a f***ing genius! :D

  • This is a great performance from Damien. :)

  • Shit the Bed!!! This is Quality!!!!

  • amazing,

this is what we call music

  • Yes, it really is. =)

  • this is one of my favorite songs by damien....AMAZING!!

  • I've seen Damien live a few times and he always looks like he just crawled out of a ditch after an all night bender. It's part of his charm. I don't see any resemblance to Kurt Cocaine in this at all! Damien is a fantastic song writer and performer. This is the best live taping of Woman like a man I've seen. 5 stars!

  • this video so fucking awesome,.. i hope he makes concert in my country..:"

  • wow

  • no offense, but I think I saw flashes of Kurt Cobain in that performance.

  • Same for me...very strange

  • yes, in this one you can really see the grungy influence, but i think it's only in this one..

  • me too. did you notice the virgin mary holding kurts hand?!? OMG!!!

  • Please...Damien Rice has more talent in the fingers that hold his guitar pick than Kurt Cobain had in his whole body

  • @tonedeafmunkey What is talent ?

  • @tonedeafmunkey dont wanna sound like a douche, but....damien rice dosent use a pick when he plays :P although i still believe he has more talent in his fingers than most pornstars :P

  • @ThomSeed Hahahaha fair point :D

  • @tonedeafmunkey please... I like Damien but I think Kurt was much more talented than him. They are both great muscians but Kurt is much better

  • @tonedeafmunkey YES! yes, yes, yes!

  • @tonedeafmunkey lol, Kurt was a musician? :D:D:D:D:D

  • @tonedeafmunkey Harsh!

  • @tonedeafmunkey There two whole different genres; how can you even compare them ... Kurt Cobain basically created a whole new genre; Damien Rice is a legend of the folk genre ... how can you even compare!!!

  • @JonnyJustSpunkiied I was comparing based on talent. Musical talent which breaks across genres. It is not genre specific. For example, would Kurt have been able to sit down and play some of the most intricate Damien Rice songs? Most likely not. Could Damien play any Nirvana song? More than likely. That is how I can even compare. And Kurt didn't create anything. Grunge was around before Nirvana, they just pushed it into the mainstream.

  • @tonedeafmunkey Your seriously going to base it on "more than likely"; I have seen Kurt sing Plateau, Come As You Are, Etc so he has a good slow singing voice; New York Unplugged proves Kurts playing talent which is much better than Damien Rice's chord songs ... So to me Kurt is a much better talent but I am not going to mock Damien Rice because to me he is the meaning of folk music in my eyes/ears but Kurt is much more talented to me :)

  • @JonnyJustSpunkiied Unplugged in New York has nothing as technical as some of the Damien Rice songs. Your basing musical talent based on how it sounds to the ear to YOU rather than actual playing ability. You could say that you rather the sound of Kurt's playing to Damien's but to say Kurt was much more talented I'm afraid is utter bull. Especially basing it on Unplugged in New York. I used to think Kurt was the greatest guitarist ever, until I studied music and realised he really really isn't

  • @JonnyJustSpunkiied I despise Kurt Cobain, Nirvana and Grunge.

  • @seeanff Fair does, that is your opinion, I love the whole grunge genre as much as I love other genres! :)

  • @JonnyJustSpunkiied

If Kurt is more talented than you, take guitar lessons for one year.

Curt once said he disliked his own songs. His songs are great because of his epic scynical desinterest in everything. The same reason he's no more now. Damien is still somewhere with open eyes watching the world and writing new songs. And learning to sing better. That's why Damien is better in my opinion. But if you love epic desinterest, for you Kurt may be better.

  • @tonedeafmunkey, they're both talented!!

  • @tonedeafmunkey be careful with your words... you can't compare them...

  • @tonedeafmunkey kinda shitty comparing him to a tacky ass drug addict whos best talent was convinceing young ppl that he was something special, lmao,jk,

  • Are you on crack?

  • @tonedeafmunkey that's just stupid to say

  • Comment removed

  • I disagree with what you're saying. Cobain had a rare powerful voice and was a great song writer. I assume you're just saying that because you've matured since you saw them live.

  • by far the best version of woman like a man ive ever heard...true genius..

  • Only 55,780 views???? There is really no musical justice!!! AWSOME TUNE!!!

  • Damien Rice is a relatively little artist, but a great one... When he get around Quebec? May be with Jethro Tull and may be Bright Eye?

  • This song life is amazing...much better than recording.. Damien puts so much into his live shows

  • Damien is so amazingly talented. It's a shame he isn't as well known as he deserves to be. Or rather, what's more shameful is that we'd rather listen to rap and pop than meaningful music like Damien's.

  • thanks eskimofriend83. when looking at the website it looks most like the 25 model. there is even an "O" model, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was Damien's.

  • fucking love this song!

  • what guitar is Damien using?

  • i fucking love that guitar.. i dont know what it is thoughh lol

  • me too. it looks great especially with whatever he did to the color. it's probably some custom guitar brand from Ireland

  • yeah man. they should make a replica. that would be tight

  • doubt that would happen mostly because it is most likely made from a smaller guitar company but its a good idea.

  • Lisa's mike is far too soft :( the words she says are really meaningful ( I can get a cheaper ticket etc )but cant be heard at all in this recording. Pity...

  • gregzerozero, you can easily achieve that sound by sticking the mic through a guitar overdrive pedal and knocking the bottom end off the eq.

  • Anyone can tell me how i can to have the same effect that the second mics with a normal one ?

  • gregzerozero, you can easily achieve that sound by sticking the mic through a guitar overdrive pedal and knocking the bottom end off the eq.

  • thanks, i'll try this this week end

  • I understand that that's the most obvious way of doing that, but does anyone know how *he* does it? Because I imagine what he's doing there with two mics is easier than setting up an overdrive pedal to your mic and hoping for true bypass when it's off.

  • a vocal effects pedal.

Regular mic goes into it, then out into the sound desk. Then effects can be added etc with foot switches.

  • Everytime I watch this man live, I get goosebumps

  • just wanna say, that it must be bleeped out, cause he does swear. at 3:14, he swears, just pointing that out.

  • shut the fuck up...

  • it is true that damien rocks it even without the swearwords, but its a shame to not get the maximum effect of the song, and holding back the original lyrics is obviously holding something back. dickheads.

  • he uses those words cause he means it, if he wrote things he didn't mean than whats the point? hes amazing, end of story

  • 1 sec on the swearing debate, bbc four sessions usually airs at about 11:00pm in Britain so it's not pre-watershed so why is there no swearing? it must of been Damien's decision

  • simply amazing version.... first single then with the band.... wow

  • I give up. This is the last comment I´m writing in regards to this discussion.

I really, really like Damien Rice because he´s a story teller, he makes me have feelings and associations about something I might not even have experienced and I still don´t think it´s o.k. to randomely exchange words for others and it´s not about the swearing, the version is good, but it´s not the same to me. I will still continue to listen to Damien Rice, because you´re right, he does "rule".

  • Damien Rice rules regardless of the words he´s singing??? Did you really write that?

Oh well, that´s alright then. Next time I listen to one of his songs I´ll just try to ignore what he´s singing, since it doesn´t matter at all.(Don´t know if he would appreciate someone rendering his lyrics meaningless).

  • I think special about the swearword thing is that he first doesn't say bastard but then, at the hightest level of tension gets back to the original lyrics and just says it, you wanna get fucked inside out, thats it, damien rice rocks it.

  • but the song rocks anyway no matter wat its damien rice cant really complain

  • BBC for ya!! worried about complaints of the words fucked and barstard bit screwed up i say!

  • What annoys me a little is not the absence of bad language in the song but the fact that by changing the words he also changes the meaning of the song (you wanna be the master of yourself, not quite the same thing as the bastard of yourself?,no?). But hey, it´s not a big thing, I still like him a great deal.

  • Hello? Is it just me or is he singing "master" instead of "bastard" and "mucked" instead of "fucked"? Did he really enter some sort of faustian pact with the BBC? (don´t sing naughty words on the telly.)Is this the same man who once said he was disillusioned with the music industry, because they asked him to make his music more radio-friendly?

  • sadly everyone sells out at some point

  • Yes, sadly that is so. He is only human. Comforting to know he can be manipulated just like the rest of us. (Good thing he wasn´t singing "Rootless tree", that would have been really awkward.

  • Whoa, come on, guys... I didn't take this as selling out or whatever. So he censored his lyrics for a TV performance. So what? I've seen performances of this song uncensored, but do you really think the absence of "fucked" and "bastard" take away from the amazing rawness of the song? If so, it's not being appreciated like it should be.

  • BELIEVE ME...the reason he broke away from Juniper (now Bell X1) was that he felt pressured from the demands of their record label, whom wanted radio-friendly songs...he has one helluva personality

if you wanna hear him cuss, go see him live :]...end of story

  • He's not selling out he's just showing some respect for the BBC, if they don't want to have swear words then thats that. i dont think taking out the swear words changes the mood or the feeling of the song.

  • thats exactly right

  • Is there a special name for those mics that distort voices like that?

  • not quite, the mic is hooked up to some sort of effects processor. he could have also used the same mic, just with a stomp box.

  • ich liebe dieses lied

    ...er hat völlig recht

  • Great stuff.

  • génial

  • Lonely soldier, good song too.

  • Great song! He did changed the lyrics but it's still intensely rough. I love Lonely soldier as well.

    Very good quality as well.

  • que ets pesat ostres.

  • Christ on a bike! I must now go out and get every single album he has ever recorded...

I just stumbled on this guy's work a few days ago...

  • This song is bloody fab, and Im totally hooked!

  • he changed the lyrics.. i suppose coz it's on BBC

  • I love the song "woman like a man"

you wanna get fucked inside out? pure genius, haha

  • i love this, i keep coming back to watch it :D

  • Just as awesome live as on cd !

  • This guy is just unbelievable he's such a great guitarrist and singer and his band is just fantastic (especially Lisa)

  • Unbelieveable..the guy is fantastic

  • One of the Coolest, Funkiest Songs I've ever heard.

    Keep it up Damo!
