What several of you are referring to is artistic license. I figured Jackie was a composite of several people. And there were other complicating factors, such as Tina previously having a baby with one of Ike's bandmates and that SHE was the one persisting to join Ike's band. None of that means the abuse didn't happen. The movie was based on her autobiography I, Tina - which is much more nuanced, and much more explicit about the abuse.

Good film in many respects but for the sake of Hollywood drama interest, got their relationship very inaccurately portrayed. It was not a documentary and he had no legal recourse because of the contract he signed about his depiction. Yeah, I will defend him against silly distortions. I owe anybody in that position that much.

I read the book many years after watching the movie-within the last few years actually. According to the book, things were pretty bad for her-to put it mildly. I know Hollywood tends to make things more dramatic than they really are/were, but in this case, the movie may not be too far-fetched.

A mon sens le meilleur film le plus près du vrai physique de l'artiste. Angela Bassett est remarquable.

I agree that Angela Bassett was robbed of a well deserved Oscar but there is something that bothers me too about her performance. Angela bounces around the stage almost like an aerobics instructer, Tina Turners movements though sexy & strong were more controlled and if you watch her sing River Deep , you can see how much of herself she puts into getting that amazing voice out and of lesser importance is how she dances. The backup dancers do most of the wiggling. The real Tina is very classy!

She worked her ass off to get where she is today, America turned its bak on her when she left ike, it was europe that kept her goin, yes she was still loyal to the states n played as many gigs as she was given. it focused on the abuse because NO WOMAN SHOULD EVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT, that movie helped millions of women leave abusive men and i applaud tina for puttin it out there.
