You think I'm kidding, watch Michael Jackson do Beat It live with Slash playing the guitar...Don't get me wrong, Slash is good, but he doesn't hold a candle to Eddie....I will always be a fan of Van Halen, you have to be if you are a true fan of rock....Hell Alex is why I picked up the sticks to start with!!
saw the sammy and dave tour in 2002. sammy opened. sammy clearly outperformed dave. probably because he was more polished. dave hadn't been on the big stage in a while. i think dave was trying to prove he had his mojo still and he didn't yet. he was trying to live up to the performer he once was. still, it was good to hear him sing the classics.
Van Halen always brought the house down....saw them with Diamond Dave first, then with Sammy. Two of the tightest rock shows I ever saw, and I saw a lot of them.
This is Van Halen at the peak of their power. Regardless of what era you like best, there's no denying that at this point in time they were at their very tightest as a live outfit, and they also put on their biggest and most spectacular shows around this time.
Sammy's voice always had a greater character than David. Honestly, listening to Dave, you could imagine a few folks able to pull it off, but when Sammy does this...you KNOW it's him!
Both Dave and Sammy are good. But what Dave was doing was far better... more preforming, more fucking around and shit. Thats rocknroll. If i want studio vocals, i simply put in a CD and listen tot he music. If i wanna get raped in the head by sheer awesomenes, i go to a gig, and there i want to see preformance, not the same thing i've heard on the CD 2 hours ago.
@peters9nine filmed over 2 nights in Fresno. Video director asks them to wear the same clothes both nights. Right before they go onstage on the second night...they quickly change clothes just to piss the director off...comedy...prank. Jerky boys is the band's fav show. Eddie's picks he throws to the crowd have Jerky Boys quotes on them.
Say what you want about Hagar - he always delivered a studio quality vocal every time, didn't fuck with the words, didn't change phrasing, and delivered it crisp and clean
@rightsideofhistory Not to mention being in his mid-40's here and having energy and stage presence "American Idol" contestants half that age come nowhere near.

This was actually filmed in May of 1992 in Fresno, CA. 1993 was when the CD and video (DVDs weren't invented yet) was released. It's quite good.
