...almost 40 years later Dirk still looks the same, I guess you are what you eat, he's a healthy guy, I read his book along time ago "Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy" great book.
Strother Martin excelled at swimming and diving, and got the nickname "T-Bone Martin" from his diving expertise. At 17, he won the National Junior Springboard Diving Championship. He served as a swimming instructor in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the diving team at the University of Michigan. He entered the adult National Springboard Diving competition in hopes of gaining a berth on the U.S. Olympic team, but finished third in the competition.
at 22 seconds the dude looks gay but yeah this movie scared me when I was little I'm glad that I found it. All I remembered was My cousin doing the snakeman thing with his hand on the side of his hip. thats all I remember in the movie.
Incredible I found this movie, I guess I searched for it forever, this ones a classic a must see, thanks Kalli2, I very happy I finally found it, and the name, Sssssss now I will buy it and never loose it
Spread the word. I never got to the Cigar Store. 3 movie producers from France, Switzerland & Romania talked with me.
They gave me two great cigars that cost over $150. They made me smoke them both in 20 minutes so I could puke for the movie camera. They advertise in High Times Magazine,Sports Illustrated & The Guardian.
i remember seeing this broadcast on network tv back in the day and thinking it was totally awesome and cool. i was a really little kid. it's so stupid. a guy obsessed with snakes? turns people into freakin' snakes. it's moronic.
Strother Martin successfully turns this guy into a snake, after botching his 1st attempt on another person who got stuck in a half-man half-snake mode . This movie gives me the heebie jeebies even now.
I still don't understand the purpose in the end. After Strother Martin successfully changes Dirk Benedict into a king cobra, he decides to bring out his other king cobra who proceeds to kill him. Why did he bring out his other king cobra, and why didn't he tame his cobra unlike earlier in the movie?
I saw this on Encore when Encore first hit the airwaves. This film is freakier than Hell. The funny thing is, I was walking around a recycled entertainment store...pow, there it was. I grabbed the dvd and added it to my classic horror collection. A killer flick not many know about.
I saw this flick the weekend that it opened in Orlando, FLA (at the Orange Blossom Twin Theater) back in 1973. It was part of a double feature (the other film was THE BOY WHO CRIED WEREWOLF!)...Anyway, I was 13 at the time and SSSSSSS gave me nightmares for 2 weeks! I had to sleep with the light on. Strother Martin is the quintessential mad scientist and his character's slow torture of poor David (Dirk Benedict)gives me the chills even today! This is an oldie but goodie!
I bought the DVD at Amazon a while ago cos I'd heard alot about this movie and wanted to see it for myself. Agree with what's already been said......it is seriously eerie! - well worth buying. Plus it has the delectable Dirk Benedict in it. That alone, is reason enough for me to buy it. lol
This movie scared the hell out of me when I saw it as a little kid. Terrified me for year. I saw it 20 years later and was shocked how creepy it still was. That shot of the snake man in the carnival really did hold up-especially considering when it was made. Get chills just thinking about it. Where did you get a copy. I've looked for it and had no luck.
Oh god, please tell me you have a clip of the scene where the two guys are fighting and the blond goes all snake on the bully's as...God that was friggin funny...LOVE that part!
I saw this movie and Dirk Benedict in the theatre in 1973. It scared the hell out of a 13 year old kid. It also did one other thing. It was the almost nude swimming scene (very tame now) and other scenes that made me realize that I was Gay. Sorry, but true. When I came home from that movie I was "alit" with sexual desire and tension, nothing like I felt before. That's why "SSSSSSS" will always remain special in my mind.
Hey, I'm with you. I saw this on television in my teens in the early 1980s and always remembered it. It was one of the few television movies that showed a lot of the barechested actors in danger.

He also excelled as Chong's dad in Up in Smoke. His lines are some of the funniest!

He WAS mad and ignorant in theology though. He put himself below a mere crawling cursed animal when in fact a human being is always in God's mind!

Yes, I had a similar experience watching Jessica Biel. Except that it was a girl, and I'm not gay, and there weren't any snakes.
