Had the real pleasure of hanging out with Phil as my boyfriend, Keith Graves, played drums with him at West Fest in San Francisco on October 25/09. We had fun the night before, too, when they rehearsed at Prairie Prince's studio. Sally and John Tivens also played with them.
I love the nuances in this version. Here the song in a new way. I personally think it's refreshing to hear another rendition than the same old, same old--and from the source no less.
Wow, that was one great performance. I love P.F. Sloan. I wish somebody wopuld put out his first two albums on CD already, for God's sake! (and tons of unissued stuff, like Me and My Captain, etc)
Great songwriter..check out the Associations "On A Quiet night" one of PF Sloan's best mellow tunes!

He sold the publishing to Lou Adler in '69 for peanuts, he lost a million dollars and was stacking cases of beer to survive by '75. Tragic guy.

This is fantastic acoustic version of the tune by the guy who co-wrote it.

Johnny Rivers is acoustic version blows this awsy. Vocals and guitar average at best.

Too bad Johnny didn't write it. He'd be a rich man today. He's fortunate that PF chose him to sing the song for the tv show!

If you can remember the 60s, then you weren't really there.
To really appreciate PF Sloan now, you had to be there then. Context means a lot.

Amen to that! The Association - who did a Jimmy Webb number "P. F. Sloan" - should also be in the Hall of Fame. Wake up, you people!

This man deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about a million times more than the likes of........ugh.....Madonna.

While I love PF Sloan..who is one of the truly great 60s songwriters...his version is not in the same league as Johnny Rivers.

PF Sloan sounds better acoustic than the musicians who performed his songs in the late 60s. genius.

Ain't no way this is better than Johnny Rivers! He's the MAN! Some songwriters are better left to writing songs! This guy is one of them!
