I was the greatest duchesnayFAN in the world, but then came this program, this is a true masterpiece! And i think that in 1991 and 1990 always won the wrong pair!
In 91 Klimova sholud have won with the great lawrence of arabia program and in 1990 of course Isabel and Paul with Missing
The Duchesnays program was very well executed, but they were a little stiff in the free dance. Marina and Sergei, IMO, really were in a class by themselves in 1992 with this program. It was absolutely breathtaking!
I can't believe this is on here. It made me cry when I first watched it as a child, and it still does now. This is literally a dance of lovers, and you can feel the emotion between them throughout the entire program.
Did this couple ever do a performance to the song "Smooth Operator" by Sade? I am trying to find the original competion performance of that number, but I don't know who it was.
Não me canso de me deslumbrar com essa apresentação. É uma das mais bonitas até hoje. A música é linda e a dupla vai além da perfeição, pois trasncende a técnica. Choro e me arrepio quando vejo.
great FD! they succeeded in changing their style towards a more innovative skating (maybe due to the pressure from the Duchesnays) - the result is here!
By far my favorite ice dancing couple ever. They were always outshined, unfairly I think, by Bestimianova and Bukin. But I still don't think anyone could hold a candle to Sergei and Marina.
Thank you so much for posting this, one of their most beautiful programs!
Sublime choreography by Tarasova and emotionally stunning FD. This is back in the day when music could rule program components, not the other way around...
This has got to be my all time favorite 5 minute segment of TV ever. They were absolutely stunning. I was lucky enough to catch some footage of them rehearsing a night or two before and had my VCR ready to go for this. I must have watched this hundereds of times back in the early 90's. I just found the tape again and was going to upload it but I'm glad to see others remembered this performance as well and have already put videos up. I just wish I could have been there.
Absolutely gorgeous! My favorite dance couple of all time-they could do moves so gracefully, that from ANYONE else would have been totally awkward. Thy had such innate grace and dignity-the dignity especially is sadly lacking these days.
Ah...1:22 is just incredible. It's so memorable, I actually remember where I was when I saw that moment for the first time. Just gripping. Thanks for posting.
No, not kidding. The crowd was also partisanly French except for the foreigners there for the Olympics. The Duchenays were after the gold, and that affected both the crowd reaction and obviously the French judge's score. Anywhere else the crowd reaction would have been less subdued, I think.
@WheresMyKoppy --I remember that too. The Duchenays were the favorites, and although their program was also extremely well executed, I still think that Marina and Sergei were better by far.
@AnnaPavlovaFan Yes, the French judge was totally outrageous here. We all had criticisms of the old judging system, but I am even more disturbed by the new system, in which all judges' marks are anonymous. I have loved and followed figure skating for decades, and I feel sorry for young skaters coming up now, and also for medalists who have stood on the podium in the last few years. Recent Olympics medalists deserved medals, but did not deserve secret judging. I still watch skating, tho....
An absolute work of art. I remember watching this with my mother in 1992 and we were mesmorized- nothing to say- just watch the brilliance. No one held a candle to them...

Besides Torvil-Dean's Bolero this is the most remarkable program ever.
Breathtaking! After 18 years I still think that Marina Klimova is the best lady ice-dancer of all time!

it's not a Tarasova's choreography but a Shnati Rushpaul's one.

This is my favorite Free Dance program, a true miracle of poetry, power, perfection. A perfect wonder...
The interpretation of this program to the '92 European Championship was, if possible, even more intense...
