  • Hootenanny rules

  • RIP Johnny

  • I got this crazy songsss. 49 cents and it is far, far better than I would have imagined. Of course Westerberg is a masterful songwriter so it should have come as no surprise. Excellent.

  • All of this is still available for download

  • @masugam

    do you have a link?

  • RE: The Mats Movei: I think the actor that played in Freaks n Geeks... oh man I dont know his name..Franco or some crap. He'd be a good circa 1983-89 paul :)

  • Leather and lipstick...downtown blues.

  • Can anyone tell me how I can get this? I kept waiting thinking Paul would make it available in cd format, but it doesn' t look promising. What a phenominal lp!!!

  • When will the Replacements get their movie? Hope Sean Penn doesn't play Paul. Sean Penn is a jerk. Yeah now i am gonna hear what I jerk I am .. but how big a jerk can I be with the Replacements as my all time fav band ? I don't mean to sound paranoid but really every blog i make receives criticism so let it fly all of you cool guys out there.. I'm used to it and then I can find out your address and I will beat you up some night .. just kidding I'm as harmless as overrated an actor Sean is.

  • Paul can still write fine songs. johnys gonna die is a great song .. the best on their first and thanks to Bob Stinson guitar - when Bob shakes his guitar to get every sound out of it it's real unlike when Eric Clapton shakes his guitar. Eric Clapton with Cream was good.and with Yardbirds (but Beck was better). What kind of song is Lay down sally or I shot the sheriff? R&roll makes a lot of mistakes .. not that Clapton wasn't talented but he never had the soul of the Replacements.

  • @11xzxzxz yeah every semi-balding, pony-tail wearing guitarist in his later years idolizes clapton like he's the standard for contemporary rocknroll. maybe he is but i'm just not buyin it, never have. Talented guy though.

  • I think for late 30 and 40 somethings, this guy is our Paul McCartney. Intriguing lyrics, great buried hooks, and totally cool.

Hard to believe he'll be 50 this year

  • @ilovemred Please ... he has become Paul Mc with Wings. John with the Beatles was a much better singer and songwriter ... sure just opinion. Name 3 songs you really like by Wings?

  • @11xzxzxz Easy.......Uncle Albert./Admiral Halsey.....Magneto& Titanium Man...Jet....Richard Cory....Live and Let Die....Band On the Run....could go on longer.......you must be a bit too young to remember how good "Wings" really was. or else you never sat down and listened to their albums in whole....I LOVE Westerberg, but gotta respectfully disagree that P. Mac was washed up after the Beatles....FAR from true!!!!!!(Solo career.....well......you have a valid point then!!!!)....

  • @huskerdu1661 I respect Uncle Albert and like Jet. That is all . Live and let die is corny to me and every one does Richard Cory..listen to Van Morrison's Them do it . One Wing other Wing - Down to junior's farm? was a good rocker too. I don't like Paul's bland music without insight or bite. I respected you opinion on Paul but I thought he was "just another day". The song Me for Mine for Rod Stewart that Linda and Paul wrote is fine.

  • @huskerdu1661 Have you ever sat down and listened to "Let it be" album by Paul and the Replacements .. imo much better than any Beatles album and much better than the song Let it Be.. Unsatisfied, I will dare, Androgynous, Sixteen Blue, Answering Machine, etc. great lyrics, great melodies. Well good luck to you.

  • @11xzxzxz wore out the "Let It Be" LP!!!!!! Was particularly fond of "Answering Machine" and "Unsatisfied"...(perfect for the time in my life),,,,only song I didn`t care too much for on it was "Black Diamond"....found out several years later that it was a Kiss cover....no WONDER it seemed out of place to me!!!! Was lucky enough to see the `mats twice and Paul solo on his first solo tour(ROCKED!!!)..once opened for Tom Petty. Nobody was listening so they stopped midsong and walked off..CLASSIC!!

  • @huskerdu1661 Yeah my two favorite from Let it be are Unsatisfied and And Answering Machine. Thought not a great song , Black Diamond was certainly made better by them . Kiss sucks face. I only saw Paul on maybe his second tour. He was good but wished he took along a drummer (black dude who played with Prince) who was all bang the drum "all day wrong" (Todd R and Robert Deniro dumb joke). It still hurts to hear they stopped in midsong.

  • @huskerdu1661 I wrote a lyric response to Answering Machine. Re-rung Redux:

Try to breath some life into today's bands .. Just can't

Play like dopes I've lost all hope .. I rant

How do you tell this decade's bands they are a wrong answer

How do they spread like lies or metastatic cancer?

Get back together or at least for a tour

Paul Tommy Chris Bob not Slim were the cure

How do get an answer from Paul's answering machine?

How do you disconnected from the writer of Sixteen?

  • @huskerdu1661 Try to unstuck the bees from nectar and pollen

Try to reunite when great Bob Stinson has fallen

Most every songs a gem or better than an anthem

So much better than musicals like the rot of Phantom

How do you say nothings better than Let it Be?

And the next best is Tim or Pleased to Meet Me

How do you say pick up the damn phone to Paul?

I don't understand why you're driving yourself up the wall

How tell do you get Westerberg to answer the call

  • @huskerdu1661 and to work up a mean mean thirst after a hard day of nothin' much at all

Summer's past it's too late to cut the grass There ain't much to rake anyway in the fall

Ah what a shame and so is the Rock Hall of Fame

How do you turn Cleveland .. into a Disneyland?

How do get Lebron James to stop a slam dunk

Yeah a Replacements fan who would have thunk?

So how do get an invite just to turn it down?

Just like Saturday Night Live Pleased to Meet You

  • @11xzxzxz You are definitely a Replacements fan!!!!! Glad to meet you!!!!! You`ve probably aleady seen it on Youtube, but there is a version of Paul singing"Here Comes a Regular" solo where he begins the song by saying"Here comes a regular...and there goes a career'......Sends chills up my spine everytime I listen to it.....Peace!!!!!

  • @huskerdu1661 Yeap I got those chills and that video is somewhere in my stash of now over 2000 songs. Paul' always good for a quote of depth too. Because he is a complex thinker feeler-arranger.

  • @huskerdu1661 You don't have any free time..ha. No videos?

  • @11xzxzxz

The only Wings album I ever bought ws the one with the string of pictures of each of them on the cover. I think "Silly Love Songs" ws the hit. Liked "My Baby" from that one. I have no other Wings songs I liked.

I don't know: Stereo/Mono and Folker were awful tight. I have to agree though: I'm 49 this year and I still break out Hootenany and love it!

  • @ilovemred Great a mats fan. And I am not saying Paul M was bad ... just over-worshiped. Hootenany is not considered one of the mats better .. I like Let it Be, Tim, Pleased to meet Me, and Don't Tell a Soul.

  • @11xzxzxz

    Never mind loved it

  • @ilovemred Right Nevermind (replacements) was a great song off Pleased to Meet Me.

  • @ilovemred So who is this new girl Paul McC is with?

  • Yes...very much like St.Bob at the end...nice call!!

  • I think he's channeling Bob in the solo at the end!

  • Comment removed

  • @cranemasterbater Uh, ok. What I meant was, the guitar solo at the end of the song sounded like maybe Bob Stinson could have been playing it, hence the "channeling Bob in the solo at the end" part of my comment.

  • @pablo2541 Channeling Bob playing like Johnny Thunders perhaps?

  • Paul lets jam

  • Just when things were bleak, Paul let this one loose and saved me again! Keep doing it, Paul - we're listening!

  • shit, thanks so much for putting this up. I love Thunders and the 'mats. Who's gonna do a Thunders biopic? Come on!

  • my favourite from the amazing album.

  • St. Paul is back flying under the raidar in true Westy fashion!!

  • kicks ass

  • Love this album...and it's just like paul to release a bunch of covers without getting the licensing agreement.

    Gotta love 'im though

  • Maybe that's one of the reasons why it is no longer available...

  • I betcha it's THE reason. Which is folks like you are so important:D Thanks for continuing to spread some fantastic music.

  • MediaGoddess82- Thank you for posting these tracks. Do you have the rest of the tracks from the album? If so any chance you can upload them :) ?

  • thanks for putting these up.

  • Enjoy. Hopefully the album becomes available again.

  • Let's hope so...Westerberg raises the roof with this record.
