I owned a 1995 Ford Escort 1.8 Mazda racing engine and 4-speed F-4EAT automatic transmission and it won me some money and races against those V8 dudes. It had all high performance parts. The guy I bought it from used to race it on figure 8 tracks and Cosworth actually used this vehicle to make one with a Cosworth design that had the fastest quarter mile time for some time. An idiot kept calling me out saying his Ford F-350 Diesel was gonna blow its doors off. I beat him by about 10 car lenghts.
why does everyone keep saying this is an automatic? this is a 5 speed car with a squishy clutch (or driver with slow feet, no offense). there was NEVER an automatic escort GT, they were ALL 5 speeds. i dont care what google tells you :-)
@zer0mind You sir must be full of it, in the 80's Escort GT's were five speeds mostly, but they did make automatic ones in the 2nd generation Escort GT (1991-1996) So go look up your information again.
@0to60in16seconds no offence, but theres no way a stock egt will run a 7.4sec from 0-60 that means that is only .6 sec slower than the mk5 volkswagen gti, if so please provide me a video showin me that or else there is no way that egt will run 7.4 secs or similar...

Oh and Tiptronic chip... I wanted to record acceleration of it coz my dad got heavy leg (always accelerating) but he sell it and now he own Ford Fiesta ST
Huh? Auto trans? Your grandma would kick your ass! The 1.8, like any I-4 DOHC, sucks with an auto trans! My dad had a '94 Tracer LTS auto and I thought there was something wrong with it after the '93 1.9L wagon in first gear off the line. No, it's called low-end torque! A 1.8 manual doesn't have those limitations.

I still have my 91 GT with an automatic, the tranny been rebuilt though. It's got 250,000 miles on it so far.

My dad's Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI (turbo diesel intercooler) is quicker than this Escort "GT" and sharan is a lot heavier !!

stock my 5speed was hitting 7.4-7.5
still not fast but nowhere near as slow as in this video
