  • UPDATE: Port will be making his Discovery Channel Debut the evening of December 19th. The show's name is Raw Alaska, and is a compilation of events captured on home video in Alaska. Check your local listings for exact times, should be somewhere between 5 and 9 pm depending on your location. A clip of Port is also to appear in an upcoming episode of "When Vacations Attack" (we all know Port would never attack anyone) on the Travel Channel.

  • It's soo cute,. (:

  • It's people like you that restore my faith in humanity. Thank you for loving and caring for this poor baby.

  • 3:06 om nom nom nom

  • You did a very heroic thing for this magnificent creature, it warms my heart seeing animals and humans getting along :) btw what was the name of the song at the very start of the video?

  • and what happened with him finally?

  • 80% of the people who walked by that helpless animal would take pictures and stare, and walk on.

I'm glad there are 20% of the people who would do something.

  • 1:11 QUACK

  • It makes me feel so good to know that there are people like you in the world!

  • thank you. :3

  • Sorry for the delay in posting, had some technical difficulties with the camera, but the release is now posted under the title "Alaska Seal Pup Release"

Enjoy and thanks for all the comments, it was an awesome experience.

  • The vast majority of human beings would help an animal in need. Although there are some who simply have clubbed this poor animal, there are far more people who would help it. So we should be happy there are way more of our own kind who would help rather than hurt.

It doesn't change the fact there are those who kill these animals for profit or "business", but we can't rag on *people* in general for hurting these seals because the vast majority are helpful, kind people.

    That's what life is about.

  • I'm anxious to see the release video - you referenced editing the video - I thought perhaps that's what you meant. I couldn't find anything on the Alaska Sealife website. Thanks!! ~ Nancy I'm so happy for Port!! :)

  • UPDATE: Port and his friend Bleu were released back to the wild this past Saturday. He looked fat and happy and was released with another seal Bleu. Beautiful day and wonderful ending to the summer. I will edit up the video and post it soon.

Also, this story may be featured in an upcoming Discovery Channel show on Alaska, I'll post more info when I get it!

  • 9-23-11: Port and Bleu will be released on October 8, in Homer, AK. YAY for them!!

  • I wish the world had more nice people like you :']

  • how cute!! she's just precious!:) awesome job! :)) this is so sweet!

  • LATEST UPDATE: July 13th - from Alaska Sea Life website: Port continues to be fish schooled, but he seems more interested in sucking on the side of his tote than anything else.

  • Here’s the latest update at the Alaska Sea Life website - 7-9-11: Port is back to normal, and seems to be feeling better. Another round of fish school started today. Maybe this will be Port's lucky week!

  • Here’s the latest update at the Alaska Sea Life website - 7-2-11: Port doesn't understand that fish are food. He's still being tube-fed fish formula, until he can figure it out.

  • Here’s the latest update at the Alaska Sea Life website:

Monday 6-27-11: Today Port had a routine vet exam – all is well with Port! As far as eating fish goes, Port is not interested.

  • UPDATE: Port had a routine vet exam and is doing well but he hasn't developed an interest for chasing fish yet. It's a big change from being fed by a feeding tube so it may take a while. He has gained about 3 lbs since arriving at the Sealife Center.

  • @SUPAlaska Please keep us updated on this little guys recovery:)

  • "We're gonna wrap you like a burrito,Just like a burrito!"

  • Great job!!!!

  • where's my club?

  • Aww the poor baby. Glad he's doing better

  • I knew there we're some people who still care

  • UPDATE: We named the seal pup "Port" to keep with the Alaska Sealife Center's "Wine and Cheese" theme for 2011. He has gained some weight and shifted to a fish formula diet. He's now strong enough to swim and can stay outside during the day, not enough blubber to spend the whole night outside though. This week he got to try chasing live fish for the first time. They think he will be able to be released in August.

  • @SUPAlaska ~ The latest entry for Port on the Alaska Sea Life website is 6/24: “Today was Port’s first day of fish school! He chased live fish for a while before losing interest.” To see updates, go to alaskasealife site and search seal rescue, then click "current patients". I'm so happy for Port!

  • UPDATE: Port has finally started eating fish and now just has to gain some weight before being released back to the wild. He's now in the pre-release pool competing with the other seals to catch live fish. They plan to release him in mid to late September

  • @SUPAlaska and he is wanting his mom?
