I read that the colorful, daring, decadent 80's is attributed to a good economy. The better the economy the more money people have, the more money the beter people feel about themselves. The better they feel, the more daring and colorful their get-ups will be. People that are insecure because of finances or otherwise tend to dress in drab, flat or bland colors. What are your opinions on this?
The Generra clothes dude, has on 4 (count em) 4 shirts, thats got to weigh a lot... I think the chick does too... I am from the 80's I dont remember anyone wearing that many shirts around my area lol!
im a '82 baby and growing up i never thought twice at how goofy these commercials are,but now that i look them up on utube in present time..i actually have a good laugh at them. love watching other remembering the 80's vids too(toys, cartoons, etc)
@AndyinMTL lol that's the truth! and how much is that trio at Red Lobster now? 21.95? All of these bring back good times, before -gasp- computer mass media ads in your face 24/7! Thank gosh for DVRs!! Fracking car commercials my gawd.
The 80s were totally awesome. I mean I think someone already said this, but now all they have is weight commercials all the time, victoria secret , an pills... these times like 80s and so forth) Are a reminder how good of a time the 80s were.
@DarkMoonGeneral Of course bro, everything from like the 60s-mid to late 90's were great. Then somewhere between the late 90s and now we seemed to have messed up biggg and it sucks so much that we come online to look at how awesome they were lol. If you look close you can even see some fashion from the 80s are even coming back.
Everything just seemed better in the 80s and even 90s. I wonder if in the future people will look back to 2000-2010 and remember it as a great decade or if they will just see it as being depressing as most of us do now.
@natalie61863 i get paid $8 an hour today, but i dont give a crap if i lived in the 80's for 2 an hr! even bums in the 80s were happier than middle class people today
Well Minimum wage was about $3.20 an hour. Today a DVD player is about 60 bucks, but back then there were only VCR's which were about $300 each lol. There was no Internet and most people didn't have Cable t.v.
Yet as you suggested, we were just far happier than people are today. There was just the sense that life was rich and had meaning, things mattered then. It was a completely different world. This is a very perceptive comment from someone not around at the time.
@RadiantSilverlighter i've seen it as well and it's just as close to getting back to 1986 without the need of a time machine that is comprised of a hot tub, along with the consumption some super strong energy drink from Russia which is outlawed anywhere else in the world.
Lol, sure do remember those days like they were yesterday. Graduated high school in 1987, and yes I remember all the yuppies with their sweaters draped over themselves. These type of commercials are great, plus, back then NO INFO-MERCIALS!!! Ahh, the good old days.
Alyssa Milano did another Hi-C commercial, one for a flavor called Candy Apple Cooler. I have it on tape. It's no doubt in your collection online somewhere, I just haven't found it yet. lol
Isn't it amazing how we hate to watch commercials today, yet go out of our way to watch ones from the 80s? I was born in 87 but there's something so wholesome about seeing how TV was presented back then. Makes me sad I didn't get to live out that era.
@ 1:31 WOW! I remember when we had to pay for long distance calls inside the US, I would you to cringe when we opened the phone bill and get that, who called Philly? Who called Ohio?? I said 1 hour not 3!!! Now because of flat rates, no one even changes their number when they move from Washington State to Florida.
OMG!!! $6.95 for three trio dishes at RED LOBSTER???? Why couldn't I have grown up in the 80s??? Well...I kinda did. I grew at the tail end of the 80s (I was born '84)
I love how 80s commercials werent afraid to compare another brand..Fruit of the Loom got called out lmao....they dont even do that anymore..if they do they alter the name or just call "other name brand" is it illegal to diss another brand in commercials now or what?
it isn't illegal, but there were so many lawsuits for slander/false statements in the late 80's that it is rare now. Most businesses just figure it's better to spare themselves the hassle.
@2short99 Even if it weren't illegal, I wouldn't want to "say" the name of my competitor in a commercial, as it actually gives them inadvertant advertising, positive or not.
Dude for real, todays commercials are all about weight watchers, condoms, pills, shit like that. The 80s was a better time, all around. The 60s 70s and 80s, infact. Real kick ass music with real rockers and true artists, things actually mattered, things wern't so expensive, no slutty bimbos and ghetto ass pussys in music, etc. This decade is shit but it will be better soon, I believe that cause what goes round comes around. You just got to make the most of it right now and long live 60s 70s 80s
Damn, Hanes called the fuck out of Fruit of the Loom. They didn't even try to hide behind the phrase "the other leading brands" like advertisers today.
@Crystasorrow yeah.. me in 93^^but at least I could watch 90s cartoon when I was younger instead of this 2000s crap cartoons... but these commercials really rock long live the 80s xD
I was seven years old when these aired, and I vaguely remember a few of them. Who is the woman at 1:40 in the AT&T commercial? Also, does anyone remember a Hillshire (?) Farms commercial that had the song "Our house is a very very very fine house" playing in the BG? I could swear I saw a smoked sausage commercial as a kid (around 1984-85) with that song, so whenever I hear it, it reminds me of smoked sausage.
I almost can't contain my horror that people were born past the 70's. You can actually be born after the millennium and be responding! Holy shit! I still feel 10 years old but I'm a fossil with a family of my own.
@florida995 I completely agree ... I'm fifteeen and my family worships Elvis, I listen to Led zeppelin, the beatles, acdc, guns n roses, 80s madonna, elvis, franky goes to hollywood, etc. and I watch all of the 80s movies like the lost boys, etccc. such a good time that I wish I livedd ha. I even dressed 80s up until a few months ago with the big hair, high tops, high waisted jeans, etc. I believe the 60s 70s and 80s will always have its place!
Really funny that I actually thought they were saying Coffee when they actually said "Hi-C". Eh, sound similar to me. Well, I do drink Coffee, probably why.
Damn, everything was so up-beat and colorful in alot of those commercials, like everyone was SOOOOOOO glad about the product they were singing and dancing about, although they probably loathed the stuff themselves, lol!
Burger King's Chicken Tenders were shit. I said they tasted like rubber. If I had been alive in 1986 (my brother in Newfoundland and Labrador liked watching The Smurfs), I would have wanted to watch "Smurf Quest". But I wasn't born for a year at that time.
@MattJFisher Lol,well, the McD's chicken mcnuggets were made from "chicken parts!" It wasn't until years later that they decided to adverstise them as being made with "actual all white meat!" And to think, for years many of us have been crapping up our systems loading up in that junk...God help us! Don't go any where near that stuff today, "real" white meat or not!

The commercials seemed more funny back then, now they make us change the channel.
