I finally discovered what this hat craze is mimicking... I had the displeasure once to watch this kid find a "shiny ponyta" in his pokemon game(and freakout after he caught it), apparently they have collectable pokemon that are very rare to find called shiny pokemon now. So yes, TF2 has turned into pokemon shit, and only the hardiest gamers will keep from succumbing to the bullshit you guys are pissing your pants over and just play the game.

I personally don't do all that pokemon metagaming stuff, but when I DO find something good it's even better because I didn't even try to get it.
