  • Why should you goto china to learn kung fu?

    1. People don't make fun of you like they do in America

2.ITs the ORIGIN of Kung fu (Bruce lee even went china.... specifically HongKong)

3.It gives you more experience its not like US were 85% of us are over weight -_-

4.More Enviormental although there is smog in some locations

Its your choice take the opperitunity

  • God, there's gingers everywhere.

  • one redhead in the middle of a billion chinese kids , that will be awesome , i want to watch this movies

  • they totally pushed him to his limits hahahaha the kid as crying in the wushu class

  • That's my dream too, and that makes me hate my country , what a story! I'm too old now .I wish i could grow up in a place like this , that is a lifestyle that i would love . all i can do is practice kung fu here.

  • Lucky kid.I'd still give it all up to go

  • wow

  • great work emptymindsfilms ! push the barriors and dreams come true.

  • I'm getting tired just WATCHING them train...

    Doubt I'd mke a good warrior. :/

But I'm GREAT at standing on sidelines and offering moral support!! :D

... that's gotta count for something. Right?

  • There will be a premier screening of this movie at The FilmBar Theater in Phoenix (The family home town). Dates are Friday 13th and Saturday 14th January. This will be the first screening worldwide. Andre, The Boy in China will be attending. For more information on tickets email to margot.magnum@gmail.com

  • @emptymindfilms when will this movie come out on dvd?

  • 赞!太厉害了,支持你,最棒的小子

  • This boy is lucky. I wish I had his chance :(

  • He could be a star in China..tv and film industries will be chasing him!

  • 加油 Andre!!!!! 我记得你。。。。在 San Diego 功夫比赛我看看你练习。。。。你非常好啊!!!!

  • @MsDYap 谢谢

  • Congratulations to the Parents for honouring their child own mind and making that decision.

  • Cool. But there is a huge difference between Kung Fu Master & WuShu Champion.

  • @taoboxer9 too much bla bla u didnt understand what means wushu!

  • How can anybody say anything bad about this? it's a kid living out his dream and his parents giving all they can to let that happen. Any bad talkers are seriously just jealous

  • @foginfrisco, meal ticket? Real classy, why not do some research before making dumb comments.

    Live your dream Andre

  • Am I the only one who thinks this is sad? Looks like the parents are using their kid for a meal ticket. Gold medals? Broken family? Lost home? And that is BEST for their boy? If they wanted the best of their boy, they would be together and NOT be making a movie to profit. There is a lot more going on here than meets the eye.

  • @foginfrisco. YES! You are spot on! Of all the criticisms we've received, this is the one that is MOST valid. Although we aren't making money from this film, I do hope the publicity can be used for Dre's advantage someday. BUT, you are asking the questions that I ask myself every day. This wasn't a planned course of action, it was a series of events, and in retrospect, I don't know that we made the right decisions. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion. Hope u r wrong, fear u r right.

  • @newjoints23 indeed, his parents are very devoted.

  • I almost moved to Hong Kong 4 yrs ago to study, but I digressed. Then last year, I was in the process of moving to Taiwan to study Wing Chun. Fatefully, I learned that the master in Taiwan had a disciple here in the states. I do not speak Chinese at all, so instead of moving across the globe to study in a foreign land, I moved across the country. Now, this is my life.

  • Yes China is a great place to train. But you don't NEED to go there. There are fantastic teachers here in the US where if the student is dedicated and cultivates their talent, they will be champions. Going to China has nothing to do with it.

  • @DopoNotte Yeah but its better to goto the ORIGIN of martail arts you can't find legit shaolin temples in the U.S masters in U.S] are not easy to find and NO MMA masters don't count its a sport XD

  • It is obvious you do not understand my point. I'm not talking about how good the boy is. I'm talking about going to China.

  • I'm not talking about the kid. I'm talking about going to China!!! This conversation is so pointless bc you're not even reading my comments.

  • Clearly this argument is useless. Train the way you want. Go to China. I don't care. My point is you don't need to. Cite Donney Yen who studied in Boston.

I'm done replying to this video. We have different values in training Kung Fu. And its useless to keep arguing.

  • @DopoNotte When have the Beijing Wushu Team lost a competition? I would like to refer you to a video of a recent CMAT competition in Berkley California that is infamous for top notch edge competitors all around the world. If you know about wushu/kungfu you would know of this. Also you would know that there are 3 skill levels while competing there is beginners intermediate and Nandu. Nandu changes due to strict I.W.F. and even so there are many regulations for each type of style.

  • And your comment about meditation not burning cardio?? I'm talking about Kung Fu. Not athletics. Kung Fu is more than movement. Its also training the mind. Obviously your father didn't teach you this.....

  • I do not train wushu Kung fu. I train Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Qigong, and Yiquan. Yes my taiji and xingyi forms are wushu competition forms. But both are internal arts. Also the players who play the wushu you speak of end their careers art 25-28 years of age. Much like any baseball or football athlete in the US. Many never train the internal arts, let alone master them. I do not need to go to China. My teacher already has gone, bringing back not one but two gold medals in Chen Taijiquan.

  • @DopoNotte Congrats you are practicing internal art so you should be the first to know about improving the body soul and mind at a slow and steady pace. Cut the kid some slack he is doing just fine. Also wushu athletes start at a young age close to 6-8 and their retirement is around the early 20's. The wushu athletes who are past the age 25 get stomped by the upcoming generation due to torn bone and marrow from doing nandu jumps and crashing 720 xfjs to mabu or splits.

  • @DopoNotte Also my father is Master Jinheng Li he has won countless gold medals internationally and has traveled in his prime to introduce Wushu to the world. He has taught many people in the states and in the world for over 30+ years and is continuing with polishing his students. All that you have speak of Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Qigong, Yiquan are all mastered upon by my father including wushu. China is a wonderful place to train. You learn more with the people and the culture.

  • Touching. Thanks for posting. maurice

  • Wow people..for those who are saying "he needs to learn from a master not a Wushu academy", or downplaying the parent's support and sacrifice, let the boy live HIS life. Why are people trying to always put their own opinions and their own apparent "truths" on someone else's lives and choices?

  • Best wishes to Andre and his family! Keep practicing and fighting the odds. You can do it and you have family and friends who love and support your choices. Jia you!

  • To further highlight my point: you can stand in your shower practicing Zhan Zhang (standing meditation) and Yiquan and attain a much higher lvl of Kung Fu than running around the Great Wall learning whatever tiger Crane or monkey form this kids doing.....Kung Fu is not based on race or sex and especially not based on bc you did it in some special place. Kung Fu is about you.

  • @DopoNotte also I am not a health expert or anything like that, but I'm pretty sure you burn more calories and build more muscle and improve you're cardio much more than standing and meditating in the shower. I see no logic in you're point. You're last statement has no credibility whatsoever, kids who train in china experience the best workout of their lives due to the commitment and knowledge of the wushu instructors. Afterall, wushu was made famous in Beijing China. Learn from the best.

  • My comments are not about how good the boy is. They are about his decision to train in China; much more than simply seeking out the best training (which has already been pointed out is a Master) the family and much more so this video's focus is the obsession with the image of studying in China. Its not about Kung Fu. Its about drawing false praise. Any student of Kung Fu can see this clearly.

  • @DopoNotte ... much these kids train a day? 8 hours a day. You need to realize that to fully master the wushu art requires years and years and years of practice and 10 thousands of kicks and punches to perfect anything in this skilled art. So if you honestly think that this kid has some pretty bad form. I would like to personally invite you and Andre (which he has already) to World Martial Arts and come train for 6 hours with Master Li. We will see who is standing after 1 hour of training

  • Okay, the boy and his family have sacrificed much. Great. What I and others are saying is his sacrifice is misplaced. Just look at his form in the leg kicks time stamp 1:18-1:21. That's pretty bad form. And I've seen American's do much better. No need to go to China.

  • @DopoNotte The sacrifice for this family is not misplaced if the kid wants to ultimately pursue a career in wushu. Many people around the world travel to Beijing China to further their studies in this wonderful art and some are old, young, amatures, and also professionals. I would know this first hand since my father is one of the founders of the Beijing Wushu Team. There is no need to criticize the way he trains and how bad his form is. Do you realize how... cont. next comment

  • @iexcalibui2 If you read the info and check out his website you will see that he has quite an impressive training background. I think he has quite a reputation for a 9 year old! Watch out world!

This is about fulfilling a dream and what a family will do for each other, not criticizing someone else's choices. Amazing dedication from all!

  • every time i go tomy kung fu class i wonder why on earth my master (a student from the shialoin temple) is here in a small town in brazil

    i count myself lucky everytime

  • 2:50 ouch.... but thats what it takes get good

  • now that's dedication... this odyssey took its toll on mom...

  • He'll get a better education in China then he will in America that's 4 sure :-(

  • Toda la suerte del mundo y todas las bendiciones de Dios Creador, para éste jovencito amén! y logre hacer su sueño realidad!!!! amén así sea!!!!

  • no traditional school. that's tagou wushu academy....

  • Its too bad they sacrificed so much not realizing that the boy can train to become a champion here in the States. No need to go to China.

  • @DopoNotte Actually he wouldnt learn as much in America then he would in China. Asian martial arts you learn more when u actually go to the country they come from. Its a fact most techniques also secrets of asian styles arent known to teachers in America.

  • he needs to study under a master, not enroll in a wushu academy

  • @iexcalibui2 - Whats the difference?

  • @spamllpitdept because big academies are just giant cookie cutter factories. Minus Jet Li and a really young Donnie Yen, just about all the really great martial artists i know of come from personal training. If academies were so awesome, why hasn't arts like BJJ and Muay Thai used them? They lack the personal attention that you get from constantly training directly under someone.

and I'm not hating on TMA, I practice Kungfu.

  • @spamllpitdept also wushu today is a sport. Its all about performance and looking nice. Martial application is de-emphasized.

  • @iexcalibui2 it's not just about the martial art, it's about the experience, this is a spiritual journey (even if it's wrong) , that boy is really special i think. Strong convictions and believes.

  • @monivideosable Do I think the experience and journey is awesome?? of course I do, its a great opportunity to be able to do what hes doing. But the description says he dreams to be a Kungfu Master...

  • @iexcalibui2 Jet li went to a wushu academy and he is not only an actor but also a master ._. and shaolin monks are masters to <_< if you kept watching

  • @Yoshi1x8 I'm well aware of who Jet Li is what Shaolin Monks do. I started martial arts w/ Shaolin KF. But if you're saying that going to an academy where your class size is like 200 vs a master who has a class size of like 20....which is better??

Shaolin isn't the ORIGIN because Chinese Martial Arts has existed before the establishment of Shaolin Temple. Bruce Lee didn't go anywhere, he lived in HK where else is he going to train kungfu? America??

  • now thats dedication to ur dreams. good luck!

  • Wow, his mother is so beautiful. Lucky dad.
