"There you stood on a feather, expecting to fly." How beautifully expressed. I have always loved Buffalo Springfield.. They bring back the 60's and early 70's, a time so long gone, it breaks your heart.
this beautiful song brings back a flood of memories of a time never to be seen again. thank you so much for posting this. one of my favorite Neil/Springfield tunes.
i believe it's just how love is. for as long as they were in love together it was great, but everything ends and i think he feels it isn't worth it if there's the pain and despair afterwards.
De ces chansons que l'on trouve toujours trop courtes (comme "éléanor rigby", "Mélody Nelson") qu'on pourrait écouter des heures durant sans jamais se lasser, et qui font partie de la "bande-son" d'une vie.
I love music from the vietnam era. Especially the music from apacolypse now and we were soldiers but i can never figure out who the music is by. Help?!
Actually, Neil wrote this song for his solo deal, not for BS. He then changed his mind and added to the BS album. Its such a powerful song and WAY ahead of its time.
This is one of the greats off one of the greatest records of all time. The true genius is Neil not Steve - but Steve's Hung Upside Down is great and Rock and Roll Woman good but I don't understand the hopla about Bluebird. By the summer I was healing.
Expecting to Fly, Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing, Broken Arrow- Neil, i never understood where you were going, but these songs are everlastingly good.
Possibly you should look at the lyrics ... pretty clear, "old true love ain't too hard to see." There you stood on the edge of your feather, Expecting to fly. While I laughed, I wondered whether I could wave goodbye, Knowin' that you'd gone. By the summer it was healing, We had said goodbye. All the years we'd spent with feeling Ended with a cry
Even though our politics are like night vs the day, I have always love Neil Young's songs. Expecting to Fly is a favorite (Also check out the Old Laughing Lady, Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing, and Broken Arrow) Sonny, Penn Hills, PA
Still a work of art. .... I am in awe.

True, one of the most beautiful songs ever. What a band. The sound of the vinyl scratching makes it even more nostalgic!
